BBQ Teriyaki Stir-Fry

Last week’s recipe took me back to my weird foodie roots…

I may come up with some quirky combos, but some of the BEST (and strangest)Β ones I’ve ever tasted have been discovered simply by me asking myself,
“I wonder how this and that will taste together?”

Sometimes it doesn’t go as well as hoped (note to self, peanut butter and salsa just doesn’t work), but other times, it turns out to be a flavor explosion…

POW! Right in the kisser! πŸ˜‰

  1. I love mixing up my own stir fry sauces. They usually taste so much better than the bottled kinds. I wish I could find liquid smoke so that I could make this though – I haven’t been able to find it anywhere!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww, really? Geez, it’s in almost every store around here! Oh, wow…yeah, wasn’t trying to rub that in or anything! :-/ Haha!

  2. Sounds good to me! Then again… I love most anything with bbq sauce!

  3. Pb and salsa, maybe nit, but pb hot sauce and soy sauce is delicious in a stir-fry! I really need to find liquid smoke somewhere. I want to make everything taste like bacon!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ohhh, I’ve GOT to try that combo! They typically have the liquid smoke in most grocery stores…it’s near the barbecue sauces! πŸ˜€

  4. PB and salsa doesn’t work? Is it weird that this just makes me want to try it more? Lol!

I love mixing sauces! It would be a crime to eat them plain. Really love the Asian BBQ spin. Must try with my new sauce! Thanks for being so strange but good! Xo

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, I should have known! It wasn’t horrible…it just didn’t taste as good as it sounded in my head! Lol

I’ve got to remember to look for that sauce the next time I’m at Whole Foods…kinda kicking myself for not finding the time to stop there after I met Allie for lunch yesterday! πŸ™ Ha! Like I need one more bottle to add to my millions! πŸ˜‰

  5. I love making my own sauces. For stir frys I sometimes mix sweet chili sauce and rice vinegar to make a cheater’s sweet and sour sauce.

  6. Allie says:

Ohhhh yeah! Can’t wait for lunch! The countdown has begun…

And I’m kinda bummed, PB plus salsa seems like it has so much potential. What if it was a peach or pineapple salsa?? Then it would be like a spicy PB&J…

  7. Ooh I love teriyaki – good for you for making your own sauce! I can be so lazy that I just buy the stuff in the bottle lol. This looks great, and it’s good to know how to make my own sauce so I don’t always have to go to the store before making it!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hey, no shame in being lazy every once in a while…I’ll admit, I am TOTALLY addicted to Trader Joe’s Island Soyaki sauce…though I have YET to use it as an actual marinade/sauce! I just keep drizzling it over salads filled with smoked salmon and pickled ginger…what I’m calling my “sushi salads”! πŸ˜€

  8. This looks GOOD and I love that it is vegetarian! I think this would also be great with tofu :).

    • kissmybroccoli says:

For sure! That’s what I love about stir fries…so versatile! This would be delicious with tofu, tempeh, or even some seitan! πŸ˜€

  9. PB & Salsa… hmmm.. intriguing!
I need to get myself some of that liquid smoke.. super versatile! πŸ™‚ Happy Friday xoxo

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ahh, a girl after my own heart! I love how adventurous you are!! <3 And seriously, the liquid smoke is awesome! A little goes a long way and it brings so much depth to sauces! It's great in a peanut flour sauce too!

  10. Kim says:

now that looks delish! I am definitely going to try that one. I wonder what it would taste like with tofu? πŸ™‚

  11. For real, you need to be a photographer. You have got such a great eye. This looks amazing.

  12. I love mixing sauces! I usually eat to have a vehicle for sauce. My fav combo right now is ume plum vinegar, evoo, spicy mustard, and dill for a salad dressing! Your combo is making me hungry!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ohhh girl, that sounds delicious! Can’t believe I’ve never thought to combine mustard and dill…I mean I am like the mustard queen! πŸ˜‰

  13. You’ve totally piqued my interest in the peanut butter/salsa combination! Even though you already played guinea pig, I can’t help but wonder what the two taste like together. I like peanut butter with nearly anything, and salsa is really just chunky tomato jam, right?! πŸ˜‰

Anywho, this stir fry looks delicious! I’ve been a barbecue sauce kick lately, but have never thought to combine it with soy sauce — genius! πŸ™‚

Hope you’re having a fab weekend, lovely! <3

    • kissmybroccoli says:

      Yeah, I wasn’t a fan…BUT I think if I go with a fruit-based salsa, I’d like it more! Hey, I haven’t written it off completely just yet! πŸ˜‰

The BBQ and soy was SUCH a great combo…I mean soy sauce is already a fantastic flavor, but with the smokiness added to it? PERFECTION!

Hope you’re having a great weekend too doll! xoxo

  14. Omg this looks super yummy!!!!!! I can’t wait to try this!

  15. Hahahahahaha you totally caught me. I was thinking “MIXER!!!” just as you called me out. πŸ™‚

And, wait, is this supposed to be a strange recipe? Sounds pretty darn fabulous to me! I think it might need a little mustard though….

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my god woman!! Get out of my head!! This recipe STARTED with soy sauce and mustard!! Sadly though, the soy was too overpowering and the mustard flavor was completely missed! πŸ™
