That Week I Went MIA

Hey there, my little punkins!

Wait, can I call you punkins in the middle of June…sugar pies??Β Does adding a term of endearment make up for the fact that I totally disappeared on you last week?

To be perfectly honest, I had no intention of posting until Thursday, but then wouldn’t you know, things got all sorts of crazy busy and there just wasn’t any time. After that, my “weekend” started and well, I needed to just check out. After having some time to relax AND reading through the amazing and heartfelt comments on Monday’s post, I’m feeling a bit renewed, grateful, and humbled.

But enough of the sappiness, how about a littleΒ review?

Week-In-Review-Button

What better way to catch you guys up on the past seven days than by joining in with Meghan’s Week in Review? Woo hoo! I’m excited! Are you excited? You should be! πŸ˜‰

Monday was a day for nurturing.

Garmin Walk

The morning afternoon started with a nice long walk to clear my head…and when I say clear my head, I mean sweat every last thought out of my brain! Yeah, it was a bit…hot! The rest of the day was spent working (blah), texting with good friend who helped give me a bit of perspective, and getting a much-needed refresher by rereading some of the key points in Intuitive Eating (review coming soon!).

Tuesday was a day for enlightenment.

I had my bi-weekly phone call with Jamie while I walked around the park. I had my Garmin on me, but it died after about 15 minutes…not that I need it for the numbers or anything, but there were points during our conversation that I KNOW I must’ve been truckin’, because I had to stop and catch my breath a few times! Ha! We went over a LOT of things and I had several “ah ha” moments that I’ve felt I’ve been needing for so long.

Then I had an “ahhhhh” moment with this little guy…

Blueberry Watermelon Mint Smoothie

A creamy, slushy, mouth-watering Blueberry Watermelon Mint Smoothie!

Recipe coming soon!

Wednesday was a day for a change.

Gym

I woke up to temperatures in the high 90’s so instead of going for my usual park walks, I decided to head to the air conditioner gym…once I got there, I actually felt like playing around with some weights…so I did…and I took an awkward picture! πŸ˜‰

Then I came home and made the best freakin salad EVER!

Best Freakin Salad EVER!

My beloved red carrots, squash, blue cheese, strawberries, cucumber, and hard-boiled egg on a bed of romaine and Russian kale. Drizzled with a bit of balsamic dressing, I was in absolute HEAVEN!

Seriously, gorgonzola and strawberries were meant to be!!

Thursday was a day for recharging.

Camping

I drove out to Paris, TN and had a little over 24 hours with my mama all to myself. We talked, we relaxed, we soaked (a little too much) in the sun, and shared PLENTY of delicious eats. It was definitely the getaway that I needed.

Friday was a day for reconnecting.

After lounging around the camper a bit more with my mom, I headed home, showered, and made dinner while I waited for the man-friend to arrive.

Mexican Lasagna

I call it, Throw a Week’s Worth of Farmers Market Veggies in a Pan and Add Cheese…you can call it Vegetarian Mexican Lasagna…either way, it’s still delicious and I have to say, it felt sooooo good to cook again!

Recipe coming soon!

Popcorn & Wine

The rest of the night was spent playing with our new popcorn maker, drinking too much wine (ok, maybe that was just me), chatting, and cuddling on the couch while watching this movie…everything was great, except for the movie and the slight hangover I had the next day! πŸ˜‰

Oh and I also guest posted over on Lucie’s blog…did you see it??

Saturday was a day for therapy.

Farmers Market Haul

Farmers market therapy…

Retail Therapy

Retail therapy (I’m not even telling you how long we spent in Sams!)…

Fro-yo

Chocolate (and caramel and peanut butter) therapy πŸ˜‰ …

And finally, some good ol’ fashioned afternoon nap therapy!

Although I’m willing to bet it was my magical cup of fro-yo, I’m guessing all that therapy combined (or mayyyyyybe just the nap) was just what the doctor ordered, because…

Sunday was a day for getting shit done!

DVD Rack & Grass

Before the man-(who at this point, we ALL know is more than just a)friend πŸ˜‰ headed back to his place, I helped watched him hang my IKEA DVD racks that we purchased back in JANUARY (oops?) and then I not only mowed the lawn, but I dropped off the recycling, cleaned the garage, and got nice and sweaty before I whipped up one of these…

Blueberry Protein Ice Cream

Blueberry Protein Ice Cream…

Yep you guessed it, recipe coming SOON! πŸ˜‰

So tell me, what’s been going on with YOU?! How are you relaxing? What’s the last thing you bought? How’s the weather? Anyone else knocking back frozen treats with a vengeance?

And oh yeah, what recipe should I post first??

…right about now I’m kind of hating you for making me wait for that blueberry protein ice cream recipe πŸ™ πŸ™ WAHH I wanna know it like NOW!

The weather sucks here. 120+ degrees with a side of sandstorms.

  2. I wan to live your life over the past few days… ful of deliciousness and fun!!! I’ve been hanging with my mamma too… but no booze, just pain killers. Haha.

I vote for bother recipes at once. Because yum.

  3. Blueberry protein ice cream recipe first all the way please!!

Seeing your dvd rack reminds me, I need to make a trip to Ikea to buy a bookcase, storage stuff, a coffee table. My boyfriend and I made a list of things we needed to buy for our apartment 3 years ago and have so far bought none of it. Oops.

I read your comment reply the other day and I just might take you up on that offer of emailing you. I just signed up the 21 day IE Challenge as I think I’m going through the panic time a little bit with getting used to listening to my body. Just wondering if you get 1:1 coaching with Jamie assuming now that you finished the challenge?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, I’m so happy for you for signing up! I swear it makes SO much of a difference being able to go through the process with the other girls. And taking it one step at a time with the daily emails really helps to slow things down in your mind. Actually, now that I’ve said that, I think it would good for me to look back over some of those emails! As far as the 1:1 coaching goes, I only get that with Jamie because I signed up for her three month coaching program (which is separate from the IE Challenge). But do know that during the challenge, you can email her (or post to the facebook wall for support from the other girls) any time you want. And of course you can always reach out to me. I may not have ALL the answers, but I know from experience that sometimes it’s just good to have someone to bounce things off of and give you a little cheering on…my pom poms are on standby! πŸ˜‰ xoxo

  4. Fran@BCDC says:

You make any week seem like fun, Heather! Looking forward to the Mexican lasagna recipe! Love your dvd rack…sadly our walls would need to be fully covered by these to hold our collection. Ralph has never gotten the concept of “renting” a video or dvd. We’d be rich if he had. Have a great day!!

  5. I’ve missed you! Welcome back! I loved this unwind time/unplug recap- I’m really looking forward to summer vacay in a couple wks so I can do the same.

The last thing I bought was rum – for my dad. I want to see the ice cream recipe first!!!

  6. Tara says:

I’m a long time fan of your blog but I don’t think I’ve actually ever commented- so I wanted to say hi πŸ™‚ As far as my relaxation lately…I did a little hiking and spent a lot of time relaxing on the beach this weekend, which was much needed after a loong week at work.

And pleease- I need that Blueberry Watermelon Mint Smoothie recipe, stat!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, hi back, Tara!! Sounds like you know a thing or two about relaxing! Totally jealous of your beach time!! Damn this land-locked state of mine! Lol

  7. The ‘throw-stuff-in-a-pan-and-call-it-a-meal’ sort of recipes usually end up working out the best, in my opinion πŸ˜‰ And of course, going with Mexican flavours pretty much guarantees that it’ll be amazing! I’m stuck between wanting that recipe or the protein ice cream…don’t make me choooooooose!

But it looks like your week away was amazing – got some relaxation and some productivity in, which always seems pretty ideal to me. The last thing I bought was my contribution to a pole dancing class for the bachelorette party I went to Saturday night πŸ˜€

  8. Looks like you had a great week!!
Your food looks delicious as always; that blueberry mint & watermelon smoothie looks so amazingly refreshing!
Can’t wait for the lasagna recipe too! Drool!
I love my DVD rack too haha; apart from its kind of full now and I’m not sure what to do haha..theres no room for another one!

  9. Wait, those are red carrots? I have never heard of those before, do they taste the same as regular carrots? So weird!

I am SO mad, I’ve been wanting to re-read Intuitive Eating but I can’t seem to find it anywhere! I think I might have lost it in the midst of moving… I hope not, I’m gonna turn my room upside down to search for it but so far… nothing. πŸ™

I actually love how you ordered this post! But then again, I love all of your posts. Haha πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thanks Kammie!! You are too sweet! The carrots taste just the same as regular ones, but they are just so darn pretty that I’ve taken to scouting them out at the market now! Last week, one of the farmers looked at me a little funny when I turned down a variety colored basket and asked specifically if I could just have the red ones! Lol

Oh no! I hope you find your copy of IE! I swear, going back through it has been so recharging for me!

  10. Post the blueberry protein smoothie first! That looks delicious. πŸ™‚

What a week. Sounds like you had a lot going on in all sorts of different ways. Same on this end. I’ve been struggling to keep up with blogging and such, but I think the time devoted to other things will help me feel refreshed and recharged.

  11. Brittany says:

I just caught up on your previous post, and then after reading this one I have to say your determination is something to be admired!! I am finding a lot of bloggers are going through rough patches in life right now (some blog about it, some don’t.) I have a post in my draft bin right now that has been there since the beginning of the month collecting dust. I’m just afraid to hit that publish button because it feels a little too “raw” but it felt SO good to type out! The support from this community is amazing. I’m glad your week went well and I hope things are starting to look up! As always all your foodie photos are amazing.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank you so much for the support, Brittany! I’ll tell ya right now, it makes SUCH a difference to hit publish on those kind of posts…the support, love, and empathy I’ve received has been absolutely priceless in my journey to find “me”! πŸ™‚

  12. Curious at your retail therapy- Did you buy all of those dvds and books? I haven’t seen Warm Bodies yet and I was wondering what you thought of it, as well as Fifty Shades of Grey. I must say that I own Pitch Perfect on both DVD and on CD (for jamming in my car πŸ˜‰ ) and Breaking Dawn Part 2 was one of my favorite in the Twilight series.

Loved this review post. SO much stuff going on! I keep on scrolling back up to that pool… Looks so nice. It doesn’t help that I have a pool at home… 3 hours away πŸ™ Bahaha.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yes ma’am, bought every single one! Haha! The man-friend and I saw Warm Bodies in theaters so I knew I had to have it and I’d been debating on Pitch Perfect for a while now (don’t tell, but the man-friend totally has the soundtrack on his iPod! haha!). Fifty Shades is GREAT! I started the first book last week and I’m already halfway through the second book…a small feat for me since I’m one of the slowest readers out there (and have a high tendency for ADD moments…”squirrel!”) πŸ˜‰

  13. Well, hello there sunshine! Sounds like you’ve had some good times! Please tell me you bought Pitch Perfect! Then tell me it’s ok for me to come over and watch it with you! I’m waiting for it to go on sale. I LOVE that movie!

I’ve seriously been loving on my protein soft serve these days. It’s already sooooo hot! I hope you have a great week my gorgeous friend!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! I totally bought it and YES you can come over…I’ll force the man-friend to loan me his new popcorn maker! πŸ˜‰

  14. I want the smoothie first, but I am patient. I only have 60 some recipes that are made and photographed that need to be turned into blog posts, so I have to be patient.

I’m glad you had a good week.

  15. Hey – glad to see you checking in. I was wondering what was in your salad when I saw it on IG. I’ve never heard of red carrots, but now I know what I was looking at.

NEED that Mexican recipe, BTW. Just sayin…

  16. Mexican food recipes should always come first.

And agreed – strawbs, walnuts and Gorgonzola were meant to be!

  17. Robyn :) says:

It sounds like you had an awesome week!!!!! Our weather was HOT, but this week it is just warm πŸ™‚ The last thing I bought was a bottle of water, but I am going to Walmart later for some stuff. And to relax I watch TV.

Hope you have another great week.

  18. Dammit woman. Why can’t you just live closer to me. I want to do everything you did last week, including mow your lawn. Hell, you move to Cleveland. I’ll do your backyard and you can do the front yard.
I’m thrilled to hear your week was full of relaxation and rejuvenation (and maybe some hijinks with the man friend…eh, eh). You deserved to have a good one. Here’s to hoping this week goes just as well.
Oh and your salad was visual perfection my dear. I’m honored you gave me an Instagram shout out. β™« You down with OCD, Hell yes that’s me. β™« Your farmers market finds are ridiculous too, especially those carrots. Seriously, they are so freakin’ adorable, I can hardly stand it. Please show me more of those.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh lovely, have I got a treat for you this week! Wednesday’s post is gonna knock your salad-lovin’ socks off! πŸ˜‰ I’ll move to Cleveland if you can talk to Mother Nature about the whole snow thing…as in make it not happen! I will neither agree nor disagree to these “hijinks” you speak of…but I will say that it’s tough living an hour away from your man while reading Fifty Shades! πŸ˜‰

      • That’s foreplay my dear.

As far as the snow goes, I only used the snow blower once last year and the Hubby used it one other time. The snow doesn’t seem to be sticking anymore so you’ll have to move now. You can bring the man friend.

  19. You know I kind of can’t pick between the watermelon and the blueberry. I think the fact that I’ve got watermelon AND blueberries frozen together in my freezer tells me that you could do a dual post? Up to you lovely!
That said, I HAVE really been loving watermelon in smoothies lately.
I kind of went MIA this week as well. I’m busy prepping to leave the country–>visa stuff can be time consuming to say the least. But I did take the time to mow the lawn πŸ˜‰
The weather here has been rain rain rain although we had sunsunsun today!
Have you read the 50 shades trilogy? I’d be curious to know your thoughts!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh girl, you’ve GOT to try the blueberry watermelon smoothie…seriously, I was patting myself on the back as I was drinking it! Haha!

Fifty Shades is AWESOME! I started the trilogy last week and have already made it halfway through the second book…and that is really saying something for me because I am a seriously SLOOOOOOW reader!

  20. purelytwins says:

glad to hear that your week was full of change, recharging, and getting shit done πŸ™‚
we are about to start enjoying more smoothies and possibly soft serve ice cream here soon!
    HUGS

  21. I have missed you! Sounds like you had a wonderful MIA week. We all need those. I hope it left you rested are recharged.
I want all those recipes asap! πŸ™‚

  22. Lucie says:

I love your week!! Sounds so nice and good for you ! I hung out with my hilariois and lovely Canadian Bestie for the last few days here in Boston and Cape Cod and we both now have sore abs and a six pack from all that laughter. Protein Ice Cream!! Protein Ice. Cream!! Protein Ice Cream!

  23. I’m glad you’re back! But I Totally understand that sometimes you need a break. We all do!! And it sounds like you got in some good relaxation. That Mexican Lasagna sounds AMAZING! Ive been on a mexican kick lately!

  24. I’m all about relaxing when possible. You’re frozen treats look so good. It’s hot as HE– here so I can’t wait to try a new recipe!

  25. So I just read your Monday post…I just want to give you a big hug!!! This is why I cannot forbid myself from having any certain foods (or even call any food “bad”), why I have dessert every day and why sometimes I just do not read other blogs at all for sometimes weeks at a time!! Instagram is getting to be a little bad too…I mean it’s cool if you’re proud of your 6 pack…but I will probably delete ya if you show it off too much lol. comparison traps are everywhere these days!!! It’s all good girlie! I’m totally the same way with sleep too…should be getting to bed now haha

I want that frozen treat thing recipe!! Also I love that dvd holder!!

Much love and contact me any time!! <3 <3

    • kissmybroccoli says:

“I mean it’s cool if you’re proud of your 6 pack…but I will probably delete ya if you show it off too much” <- The motto I am currently living by in respects to IG! So glad I'm not alone! Thanks for the support and understanding girl! It can be hard sometimes, but I think taking more time to myself and keeping the focus "selfishly" on myself has been good for me. And yes, I've definitely slacked off on the blog reading a bit but you know what? In the time that I haven't been reading other blogs, I've been reading books, taking walks in the park, visiting with friends, and really just appreciating my time a bit more. I love blogging and the whole community, but to be honest, sometimes I can get sucked into the tiny internet vortex and forget I have a life outside of blogworld. Oh and fyi: the frozen treat "thing" recipe will be coming this week for sure! πŸ˜‰

  26. Oh my! That protein icecream looks delicious! That salad too… and oh I want to see Warm Bodies. So much goodness in this post!

  27. For the past few months I’ve been loving walking as a workout – it’s such a perfect time to think. I used to look down on walking as not as good of a workout as running or biking, but as long as you log a few miles at a decent pace, I say it’s just as good!

That’s so nice you got to spend a day with your mom – those are definitely necessary every once in a while! And so is shopping therapy. πŸ˜‰ I LOVED the movie Warm Bodies!

As for what’s new with me – I spent the weekend working (I’m working at a local organic, vegan, GF bakery until my internship starts in September) and it was crazy busy because we had a local festival going on downtown. Then I had my convocation on Sunday and Monday!

  28. I read this after your most recent post so… I am behind & need to follow your lead! πŸ˜‰ Keep focusing on you!!! Read my posts tomorrow – Wednesday f you get a chance about I AM ENOUGH! πŸ™‚

you can call me anything you want to, sugar. πŸ™‚ glad you’re alive and kickin’ !

  31. You are so creative with your smoothies!! I wish I could be that inspired πŸ˜‰ That salad looks like a beautiful, colourful bowl of heaven. I need to get me one of those.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Well…allow me to be your muse! Just take a cue from me…throw random sh!t in a blender and press the button! πŸ˜‰ And seriously? It’s a wonder I haven’t turned into a head of lettuce with all the salads I’ve been consuming lately…must be the weather, but I just can’t seem to get enough…and I’m lazy and like my food ready like NOW, but that’s besides the point! πŸ˜‰
