Fifty Shades of February

Umm, hi? 😯

Yeah, sorry about going MIA on you guys, but you know, it really did me some good to unplug a bit for the last week. After a week of being cooped up in the house (so not the same as seasonal hermitting…which is a CHOICE!), I finally got a chance to be free and see the world last Thursday…oh, ok, so I really just went to see Fifty Shades of Grey with the besties, but seriously, that night out really helped turn things around for me.

As winter ekes out its final punishing days, it’s had me tied down to a bed of emotions. Ohh, see what I did there? 😉 I swear I’ve been through the five stages of grief about ten times this month, but now, after a week off to recharge and regroup, I’m back to feeling like myself and it’s a good thing because it’s time for my favorite post of the month!

Selfie

We’ll start our “Currently” things off with a little rewind selfie circa 3 BS (before Snowpocalypse) when I was nothing but curls smiles. 😉

Library
Current Book:

One good thing about being stuck in the house most of the month is that it has set off my inner bookworm. On the few days I was able to make it out of the house, I either went to the grocery store or the library…aka, my top two “happy places”. Along with boosting my slow-reader self-esteem with some young adult fiction (Four by Veronica Roth, If I Stay and the sequel Where She Went, by Gayle Forman), I’ve also been browsing the foodie aisles as well…

Library Books

Must eat read ALL THE BOOKS!
PS, my own copy of the World Cheese Book “currently” resides on my coffee table. 😉

Current Music:

“Inhaler” by Foals. Seriously, I’ve been playing it nonstop since I found their album at the library two weeks ago.

Library - Music

Current Guilty Pleasure:

Thank you to the contributors to my library’s audio collection for not only having superb taste in indie music but for enhancing my own music library without me having to spend a dime! Muahah! <-You didn’t see that. 😉

Current Entertainment:

Music, movies, and marathoning Netflix. Who could ask for more?

Current Wish/Needs:

Sunny days. Vitamin D. A chance to talk my books OUTSIDE to read?!

Bars

Current Food:

Hello, my name is Heather and although I flirted with my inner chef recently, I’m still majorly addicted to bars. But you already knew this. What you didn’t know (and I didn’t either) is that the new Vitamin Shoppe in town rocks! They have a HUGE selection of bars that I’d never even seen…obviously, I had to do my part and sample them properly. Word of warning: That gold one, as alluring as it may seem, does NOT have any sort of magic [ticket] in it…tastes.like.ASS!

Coffee

Current Drink:

Dear coffee, you complete me. I swear I will never EVER stray again.

Current Triumphs:

I have to say I’ve given myself more than a couple of pats on the back for getting my shit together and getting back in the gym. After being out for more than a week during Snowpocalypse, it was not an easy task. There was a lot of moaning, groaning, and all out toddler temper tantrums. Unsurprisingly, a jaunt on the treadmill with one of my books from the library is what got me hooked again. Bookworm prevails!

Also? Finally getting all those BEAutiful tabs up there on my header! 😀

Current Bane of Existence:

This fucking weather. Seriously…O-VER IT!

Current Blogger Crush Envy:

Umm, Gina? Can I come move in with you? Every time I get a Snap from you with your beautiful California weather, I die a little inside!

Current Indulgence:

Treating MYSELF whenever I get the chance!
♫ A little party never killed nobody! ♫

Flowers

Current Blessing:

For all the complaining I’ve been doing this month, sometimes I just have to stop and smell the roses daisies and carnations to really appreciate the great things and amazing people I have in my life. If you had told me a year ago where I would be and what I would have right now, I’d have laughed in your face. Life really does have a way of surprising you at times. Good thing I LOVE surprises. 🙂

Shot of Coffee Selfie

Current Outfit:

While I’d like to tell you otherwise, the truth is, I’ve been in my robe more than any other article of clothing this month…and yes, most often huddled around a mug of something warm.

Current Excitement:

Tonight…Sir Sly…in Nashville…fuck yeah!

Current Link:

You Tube -> Sir Sly
Feel free to catch up on the music goodness!

Current Mood:

Hopeful…that my excitement for tonight’s show will help keep me out into the 28°F (-2.2°C) weather for the time needed. Guess I should wear my dancing shoes, huh? 😉

What is your current triumph?

What’s is one of your “happy places”?

  1. My happy place is sitting in a cafe sipping a nice creamy cappuccino while catching up on my book, favorite magazine or newspaper without kids! I love my kids, but sometimes the simplicity of sitting down, drinking coffee in silence is so peaceful!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Well that sounds just heavenly! I can’t tell you the last time I did that…and now you’ve got me craving a cappuccino at 10 o’clock at night! Lol

  2. Jenn says:

Your current outfit is sassy, I heart it. Um seriously girl I MISS YOU! We need one of our long overdue phone dates in the near future mmkay? =) Also – YOUR HAIR IS THE BEST! That is all.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, I miss you too! It was such a nice surprise to get your text today! Definitely need a phone date soon love! 🙂

  3. I’m SO over this weather too. If it’s still freezing and snowy in two weeks let’s escape to Cali and crash with Gina.

I wish I had a robe like yours to keep me cozy! Instead I wrap myself up in a blanket like a burrito and walk around the house like that hahaha.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Bahaha! Omg, that’s so funny…because my robe was in the wash yesterday and I did the same thing with my fuzzy blanket from the couch! Human burrito ftw!

  4. Don’t know if this is creepy or ingrained memory but I swear your robe featured as a backdrop to one of your recipes…..

Now the bars. THE BARS. You really are the bar queen and I love using you as a guinea pig for them 😉 Current triumph is succeeding with two recipe experiments for the e-book without blowing up the kitchen!

  5. So it’s actually 28 degrees Farenheit today which means it’s a heat wave. Crazy right. You know what else is crazy. I’m enjoying this winter. Everyone around me is over and done with it, you included and for some reason it really hasn’t bothered me this year yet. Maybe it’s the double dosage of vitamin D I’ve been inhaling or all the delicious fireside recoup and recovery days. Either way, I’m loving it.

Go bookworm go. Libraries really are the best resources. Free stuff is awesome.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Bravo lady! You get some major props from me…winter has never been my thing. I was meant to roam this Earth pantless and carefree! Lol

I’m thinking about starting the GoT series soon. Jason let me borrow the first one. Fingers crossed I don’t let the intimidation get the best of me. Lol

  6. Ana says:

    Hey Heather,
You posted more protein bars, therefore I must inquire about them. I think you should just come to accept this from me. Lol.
There is a sale on square bars right now, and I gotta know…..skip it or pick it? And which flavor?

Btw, I am in LOVE with those chia warrior bars you posted a while ago.
Coconut, banana, acia berry and chocolate pb are delicious! !!
I am also obsessing over fit crunch bars in the pb flavor. It’s like a frickin snickers bar!! ♡♡♡♡ Have you tried them?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! No problem at all, girlie! Happy to be your guinea pig! 😛 I hate to say it, but I didn’t love the Square bar. Granted, I only tried this one flavor, and they do have a lot more, but for what I got taste-wise AND size-wise, I just don’t see myself buying them again. Now that Bonk Bar was a different story…small, but packed a punch! Tasted just like a PB&J! I have to remember to pick up a cookies & cream flavor next time I’m out. I’m so glad you like the Chia bars! They are my godsend when it comes to a preworkout snack. Just enough oomph to get me going without having something bouncing around in my stomach while I’m trying to workout. I really want to get in the kitchen and experiment bit with making my own, but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Unfortunately, I have to stay away from the fit crunch bars. Believe me, with that flashy label, I’ve checked them out multiple times, but I have a sensitivity to sugar alcohols so I don’t trust my gut to behave after having one…and I’d really prefer not to be in the fetal position for hours after having a snack if you know what I mean. Ugh.

I JUST tried a new bar last night that I loved! It was a Chocolate Chocolate Chip NuGo Dark bar (http://store.nugonutrition.com/category/dark.html) that I found at a gas station of all places. I’ve tried a lot of the NuGo bars and they’ve always been super tasty (and that’s surprising given that they’re vegan bars…which usually can’t hold a candle to whey based bars, in my opinion. Hope all that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions…or better yet, recommendations. 😉 Bar addicts UNITE! Lol
