Laundry, Kryptonite, and Shin Splints

Hey guys!

So, yesterday, after I finished my fantastically fluffy banana pancakes,

Out of nowhere I got a burst of energy and all of a sudden I was ready to clean house!

Must have been the vanilla bean crack paste!

Next thing I know I’m washing dishes, cleaning countertops, vacuuming, tub-scrubbing and even DUSTING (what is that?)…almost simultaneously! Please tell me I’m not the only one with ADD when it comes to cleaning. I can’t ever seem to concentrate on one task at a time…

One minute I’m in the bathroom cleaning the tub, then all of a sudden, I realize that I need a new scrubby so I walk into the kitchen to get one out from under the sink and the next thing I know I’m loading the dishwasher and sweeping the floor! I’m either crazy or the best frickin’ multitasker ever! 😉

Anywho! So I was balls-to-the-wall in cleaning mode…the house was just about spotless (and it’s only 12:30pm!)…and then, I collected all the CLEAN laundry that I’ve been hiding in the laundry room closet

Oy vey! 🙁

Then I remembered something.

Folding laundry is my kryptonite.

Fast forward about an hour and I’m standing at the beginning of one of my running paths, powering on my Garmin, with Pandora already blasting my new favorite running station. You see, I HAD planned on doing my long run first thing in the morning, but since I woke up ready to chew my own arm off so I figured I’d just wait until later in the day when it cooled off a bit.

So why the heck was I out on the highway at 2pm?!

Laundry.

Some people make excuses not to exercise…I use exercise AS the excuse.

This was me right after I got back from the run:

8 miles…DONE!

Hang on, what happened to my thumbs?!?

Oh my god!…the agony!…the pain!…the…

Oh wait, THERE they are!

Whew!

😉

Yeah, the humor only came AFTER the run…

This is more of how I looked DURING those 8 miles:

And then…

It was (finally) over!

And so was the rest of my night…

Why hello shin splints…we’ve never met…um, you suck! :-/

Followed by:

The “what”…

The “how”…

And the “how to fix”!

What do you guys think of these?

Morale of the story: Next time, just fold the damn clothes!

What is your most hated household chore?

  1. Good job on 8 miles: I did that last Friday and was absolutely proud of myself 🙂 Hey, 8 miles is a lot for me, no judgment! 🙂 Looks like we have the same pace- I completed it in 1:10 as well….
Rest, girl, that’s the only way to heal those shin splints! U didn’t run in vibrams, did you? 🙂

Judgement? You know this is a judgement free zone here! I meant to ask you how the run went this weekend…congrats on the 8 miles girlie! That’s great!

And I ran in my New Balances…my Vibrams aren’t quite ready for higher mileage yet! The furthest I’ve gone in them is 4 miles.

Cleaning the oven, followed closely by cleaning the bathtub .

I like laundry and do not mind folding it as long as I can watch TV at the same time.

I hope your legs feel better!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hmm, maybe THAT’S why I hate it so much! I need to turn on a movie! Actually, I can see myself now…get all engrossed in what’s on the tv and totally forget what I turned it on for! haha!

  3. LAUNDRY! UGH…I HATE IT!!! I would use anything else as an excuse not to do it! I used to get shin splints in high school when I was in the marching band (I know, nerd alert…I hated it though and was forced to do it). Tony gets them now when we go on walks. They suck! I hope yours feel better soon!

  4. Jessica says:

Oh nooo! So sorry to hear about your shin splints 🙁 I can totally feel how much you’ve been loving running lately. BUT! Hopefully you’ve caught them soon enough that just resting for a couple days and easing back into it will work wonders and you won’t miss out on too much, either 🙂 Admittedly, I know nothing of shin splints, but I have a hunch the compression sleeves will just help to cover up the pain, not fix it. Might be good once you’re healed?

Seriously love your faces, btw. Brightened my (incrredibly rainy) morning, for sure!!

Also…laundry. I’m queen of procrastination. I can put off doing laundry like no other…but once I have no clean running or riding clothes is when I have to do a load! You would think work would take precedence, but no 😛

  5. katie says:

Fold the damn clothes woman!!! lol!

Oh your facial expression slideshow is hilarious! I dont think I would survive past the first mile! So I cant share my facial expression 8 mile photos ; )

My most dreaded chore is laundry and vacuuming ; p

Have a great day! xoxo <3

  6. PB&Jenny says:

look at you wonder woman! cleaning spree + 8 miler? and still managing to look absolutely gorgeous after the fact? you’re not human 😉

So sorry to hear about the shinnies! I’ve never been a hardcore runner so I can’t really relate but from what I’ve heard it doesn’t feel so hot! Be sure to take it easy, my friend. I would hate for you to become seriously injured!!!

p.s. care to pass along the cleaning bug to me? I have a closet that seriously needs some tending to!

    have a happy day, beautiful!

  7. oh gosh. laundry.
I dread it! – i do everything before I do my laundry. It’s just such a hassle to me and I always put it off until I reaaaaally need to do it 🙂

Sorry to hear about your shin splints, but awesome job on the 8 miles! I can only dream of running that many 😉

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh, you mean when you’re totally out of underwear and socks? 😉 You know it’s bad when you break out the stuff you don’t normally wear just so you don’t have to do laundry…and don’t say you haven’t done it! Haha!

Thanks girl! Believe me, I never in a million years thought I’d be running like this, but I really love it!

  8. caroline says:

oh my goodness! we were thinking the same thing! i ended up cleaning my whole house while my family was out for the day! I started with one thing.went to the next.and the next….it ended up taking 7 hours straight, with no breaks even for food! it was a workout in itself! Nice job running so far! i was into running around 6-13 miles a day last year in the fall but it got too hard on my body 🙁 i loved those long runs when i felt indestructible…and then i got a shin splint 🙁 i had to go to the chiropractor and get muscle stim to heal it before i had a triathlon. is your really bad? because i didn’t run on mine because my dr. said that would strain it and injure it more. happy healing to your shins 🙂

    • kissmybroccoli says:

You go girl! I love days like that where I am super productive! Hope you took the rest of the night to relax, unwind, and do a little something special for yourself! That amount of work deserves a reward for sure!

I don’t think they’re really bad, but I am working my 10 hour shifts this week…midway through the shift, they’ve started hurting. I’m going to my chiropractor tomorrow morning though, so I’m gonna make sure I talk to him about it. I really don’t want to do anything to injure myself permanently. Hopefully a few more days off from running and I’ll be good as new! 😉

  9. oh you make me giggle.

    i love those pictures.

i HATE laundry. i will scrub, mop, dust, vacuum, but i hate laundry.

  10. Lauren says:

I just made those pancakes. They were to die for! So fluffy! Now I’m waiting for some cleaning energy to spring up. 😛

  11. Love your picture montage 🙂 Shin splints definitely suck…and they make you never want to run again. Good job with the run, though!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah…suck for sure! Makes me wish I worked on carpeted surfaces too! Standing on concrete floors with wobbly legs for 10 hour shifts is not fun!

  12. Haha, your facial expressions cracked me up! I don’t even want to know what I look like when I run. Actually, I’ve seen pictures and it’s confirmed my worst fears- I look like I’m ready to kill someone!

  13. Thanks for stopping by my blog! After reading the first page of yours, I was cracking up with those photos! Haha! Btw, your food photos are amazing! Those pancakes… so fluffy looking.
