Thursday Things & Mutant Peppers

Hey guys!

I hope you are all having a great week…only one more day and the weekend will be here!

So it’s that time again, the time were I start to notice all the things that are rocking my week…

Time for KMB’s Thursday Things!

1. Gym Time

Ok, so I know I’ve said this before, but I think I’ve finally hit the point of making the morning workout thing a habit…my alarm was set for 5am this morning and I woke up ALL ON MY OWN at 4:12am!

I thought about going back to sleep for about a minute, but then figured, what the heck, and got ready for my workout!

I was at the gym by 4:54 and done at 5:50!

I decided to trade my LiveFit workout in for a good sweaty cardio session and by the end of it, I was a hot mess…but oh so proud! πŸ™‚

2. Camel-ing Up

I seriously canNOT even tell you how much water I’ve been drinking lately…but I CAN tell you I’m going to the bathroom about 2385 times a day…wait, TMI?

3. Cottage Cheese

It’s been too long since this guy has seen the inside of my fridge!

Back when I started to become aware of my slight lactose intolerance, I gave it up thinking that it just wasn’t worth it to have to remember my Lactaid each and every time I wanted a protein-pumped snack…but guess what!

Last week, I bought a small container of it…remember this little treat from my WIAW post?

Well, it seems that along with Greek yogurt, cottage cheese is something I can handle…of course I’ve not been brave enough to go over the 1/2 cup serving at one time yet…

But I couldn’t resist today and bought two of the BIG containers to nosh on throughout the next week!

And let me just say, there ARE brands out there that have less than 5 ingredients and are sketch free:

It saddens me every time I pick up a container that reads: “cultured skim milk…and a whole bunch of other needless ingredients only added to increase our marketability with extended shelf life.”

Ok, so maybe it doesn’t say that verbatim, but it’s pretty close.Β

The only thing that would make it better is if I could find THIS brand in my area!

4. Mutant Organics

Holy freakishly huge pepper, Batman!

And man was it one of the BEST peppers I’ve had in a while! I made a little veggie/hummus sandwich for lunch today and enjoyed it with some of my darling cheese of the cottage and cantaloupe (which was equally delicious)!

Simple.Fresh.Delicious.

5. New Polish

Picked these up the other day and JUST finished my manicure!

Verdict?

LOVE the yellow, but the matte?…eh, not so much πŸ™

Maybe I should try it with a darker color?

What is your favorite cardio exercise?
You guys know I love running, but since my knee has still been bothering me, I’m taking it easy and spending my time on the elliptical and in the pool and loving it!

Have you tried any of the new mattifying topcoats? What do you think?

I bought a matte nail polish in a dark green color and didn’t like it too much either!

Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one…everyone seems to be raving about it, but I was just so disappointed!

  2. You and your morning workouts are INSANE! I’m running with Brittany (aka Eating Bird Food) tomorrow and I’m like “ohhh man, I have to get up at 6:30am! hahaha you’re making me feel like a slacker, Heather πŸ˜‰

    Those veggies look AMAZING!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! I’ll tell you right now, it DEFINITELY takes practice! And I have to admit, it feels SO good to get off work and know that my workout is already done for the day! πŸ™‚

  3. Liz says:

i love the star on your hand in the gym pic πŸ™‚
good for you getting in those morning work outs! i lack motivation in the morning lol, i’d rather be catching some Zzzzz
    that pepper looks fantastic!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, thanks! It was actually my version of the “tying a ribbon to your finger”…I had to remember to get something to take with me to work the next day and I kept forgetting so I drew that star in permanent market and BAM! I remembered! πŸ™‚

  4. Love my morning sweat session! Makes me feel like I’m starting my day off with a bang! I’m an interval junkie all the way. I’ve seriously been eating the heck out of some mutant peppers too since Kroger has had them on super sale! I can’t get enough of them!!!

Oh and my mind totally went a different way when you said you were camel-ing up…

    Have a great weekend Heather!

  5. Ok I need you to come up to Canada and drag me out of bed before 5 in the morning too! Even though my student schedule allows me to go to the gym at other times in the day, I wish I had the motivation to go early in the morning so that I could free up the rest of my day! πŸ˜›

My favourite cardio is definitely running… but this year I’ve really fallen in love with spinning too. I find I like it a lot more ever since I’ve been making up my own spin workouts and doing them on my own, rather than going to a class.

Haha, I can start Twitter-harassing you if you like! πŸ˜‰ In a perfect world, I would have enough time to get up in the morning, have a nice breakfast, read some blogs and THEN head to the gym (yeah, and since it’s my “perfect” world, I wouldn’t have to work)! But like you said, it really makes a difference to get it done first thing and then free up the rest of the day…so nice to get off work after a hard day and know I can just veg on the couch for the rest of the night if I want.

I’ve been to a couple of spinning classes, but usually the instructor is a bit too much for me to handle. Would you be interested in sharing some of the workouts you made? I’d love to give it a try!

  6. I live 20 minutes away from Kalona where they make that cottage cheese & all those yogurts. πŸ™‚
Yay for getting workouts done before 6 a.m.!

  7. We have a local dairy farm here called Shamrock Farms. I swear. Best cottage cheese EVER. and it has no added junk. I love it. But then again, I like cottage cheese a wee bit too much.

And I love fresh peppers! I’ve started buying the mini sweet ones. LOVE THEM.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow, aren’t you a lucky duck?! I can’t believe I used to hate cottage cheese…I was really missing out for all those years!

  8. and I just saw your link. that cottage cheese is awesome. wish i could ship cottage cheese, our whole foods carries it!

  9. Loving the Thursday things, yellow nail polish… totally my jam. Delicious eats including cottage cheese, couldn’t be more drawn in. My favorite cardio is running, hands down.

  10. Missy says:

2 thumbs up for cottage cheese! I eat it every day! Love it with cantaloupe, grapes, and especially pineapple! That red pepper is gorgulous! I love eating them raw as well as roasted. (I eat them raw with cottage cheese or plain chobani and spices)

I don’t wear much nail polish as my nails are ugly. My fave cardio is kettlebell swings or Turbo Jam/Fire. I used to love step aerobics back in the day! But I love to dance to good music and Turbo was always great at that.
But I like the elliptical too – great for the joints!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah, love me a raw red pepper! I think I usually eat them all before I have time to cook them! LOL And cottage cheese and pineapple is THE best!

Love kettlebell swings! It’s been TOO long since I’ve incorporated them into one of my workouts. I like step aerobics too, but I can never seem to get into any of the classes at the gym due to my work schedule. Boo!

  11. I’m lactose intolerant too, but cottage cheese doesn’t seem to bother me either! Good news for us, I guess πŸ™‚ For me, it’s really only ice cream and milk that does it.

  12. i love that brand of CC! also friendship is another fave πŸ™‚ definitely trying the lemon + poppyseed combo asap!

  13. LOVE cottage cheese! I also don’t understand the need for things like asorbic acid & friends in my food though. I promise I’ll eat it quickly enough that you don’t have to put preservatives in it πŸ™‚
    Your pictures are gorgeous, btw!
