A Marvelous Saturday!

Happy Monday, my loves!

How was your weekend? Did you do anything exciting?

I have to say, without having much of a plan going into this weekend,
Saturday was pretty great!

Be sure to head on over to Katie’s page at Healthy Diva Eats and see the other marvelous weekend recaps!

The morning started off early with my usual trip to the farmer’s market. I restocked on the veggies and also picked up a little gem, strawberry butter…can’t wait to try this on some toast or in a big bowl of warm oats!

After the market, I stopped by Starbucks for a DECAF coffee to enjoy with my
banana walnut cookie before heading off to the spa for a scheduled-at-the-last-minute massage…it was only 30 minutes, but it was EXACTLY what I needed.

After my massage, I decided to do a little exploring around town, and like I mentioned yesterday, found the cutest little antique/craft shop!

I seriously could have taken about 100 more pictures, but I didn’t want them thinking I was casing the joint! πŸ˜‰

Each booth was more amazing than the previous. I especially loved the wine bottles lamps that were filled with marbles and I’m sorry, but aren’t those little stuffed owls and bats not the CUTEST ever?

Β And the infamous pancake inspiration…choco latte SOAP!

Of course, my version was MUCH tastier…and you don’t burp up any bubbles later! πŸ˜‰

After whipping up these babies, I met my mom, sis, and little cousin Emma for a day at the zoo!Β

It was the perfect day for it too…clear skies, not too hot, with a faint breeze…one of the nicest days we’ve had around here in WEEKS!

We were a little disappointed to find there was no monkey exhibit, but there were plenty of other animals around to get our attention…especially the flamingos!

Random fact:
Did you know that a flamingo gets its color from the shrimp that they eat?

Up next was the aquatic center which is always one of my favorites. I can never get over the vibrant colors of all the fish and plant life!

And I’m sorry, but can we just take a minute to talk about this cute little guy?

Omg, I want one! Lol

I thought it was funny that all the lizards in the reptile exhibit seemed to be posing for me…the one at the top left scared me when he just dropped out of nowhere and was like “Woo hoo! Take my picture!!”

Before making our way to the bigger exhibits, we all took a minute to get in touch with our inner animal instincts…

I totally wanted to buy one and just wear it…
to like the movie theater or something!Β

Unfortunately, most of the bigger animals were shying away in the back of they’re areas and since I’m totally lacking in the zoom department with my camera, I’ll help your eyesight a bit…

Siberian tiger (my FAVE), cougar, elephant (duh), zebras, giraffe family, alligators/crocodiles (whatever…I can never remember the difference), lynx, and papa giraffe!

Of course, we all got a kick out of this guy…

Who does he think he’s fooling…
Um, I can still see you behind that tree Mr. Giraffe!

After THREE hours of walking around the zoo, we were all pretty beat…and hungry! Though NONE of us were tempted by the gift shop specialities:

I got the skeevies just by holding the boxes!Β

Ewwww!

Yeah, I’d say the tuna fish sandwiches we had at grandma’s house afterwards was FAR

What is your favorite zoo animal?

Looks like you had so much fun! I want to go to a zoo now. I wish you would’ve tried those creepy snacks!

By the way, love your curly locks!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thanks Julie! And I may be up for trying just about anything, but I don’t think I’ll EVER be trying those! Lol

  2. I haven’t been to the zoo in so long! Definitely sparking a longing.

I always loved the polar bears at the zoo – they just fascinate me for some reason.

  3. What a great weekend! I love the zoo! I love the monkeys. Probably because I live with a couple of my own! I love penguins, but they are really sad creatures. I just want to hug them.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, this totally made me giggle! I’m picturing you chasing around a penguin trying to give it a hug, but it keeps slipping out of your arms! Lol

  4. There’s too much awesome to comment on!

#1 I loved seeing that post-massage pic of you. So decadently relaxed!
#2 how much was that wine lamp??? I need it.
#3 Your family – wow. You all look extra-related.
#4 Did you know that Pumpkin Swordfish are also red from what they eat? I saw it on a menu and got all excited about pumpkin + swordfish. Then learned it was the type… but it was still tasty.
    #5 Leopards are my favorite.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

      1. I totally needed it. AND? I actually went back yesterday for a full hour…it’s nice to spoil myself sometimes! πŸ˜‰
      2. I didn’t look, but they are pretty cool aren’t they?
      3. Haha! Thanks?
      4. No way! I totally would’ve thought the same thing you did…and been set up for disappointment for sure!
      5. Aww, me too, but this zoo rarely ever has them! I used to really like the cheetahs too!

  5. Morgs @ Crazy4Oats says:

Looks like a fun day with your fam bam!
And, are you kidding?! Larvets are a favorite childhood snack of mine! πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Really?! Gah, I just don’t think I could shake that “ewwwwwww” feeling long enough to even try one! Heebie jeebies for sure! Lol

      • Morgs @ Crazy4Oats says:

Hahahaha No, I was being completely sarcastic! I could never eat one of those- that’s fear factor status for sure!

  6. I always start my Saturdays with a trip to the farmer’s market too. It’s one of my favourite parts of the week. πŸ˜€

And that trip to the zoo looks like so much fun! I haven’t been to the zoo in ages. I always loved seeing the otters though!

  7. I’m sorry hon, but that’s just too much marvelous for one day. πŸ˜‰ Glad it was great!

  8. Haha! Oh that giraffe… And there may not have been any monkeys, but at least there were lemurs! I seriously love those things… especially the gray ones with the black and white striped tail πŸ˜€ I’d have to say that my favorite zoo animals are probably tigers though. There’s just something so peaceful and majestic about the way they move – makes me wish I could have a little kitty at home. Bah. Pesky allergies…

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yes, the tigers are definitely my favorite…especially the white ones! So sad about the kitty allergies! I used to have a problem with cats, but it doesn’t seem to bother me much anymore…as long as Tiger stays away from my face. Sometimes my eyes will start to water if he’s all up in my business for a while! Lol

  9. Jessie says:

Looks like you had an awesome weekend. I love the zoo!! The zoo’s here aren’t that great.. actually they kinda suck!! πŸ™

  10. Eric Sack says:

da Bears! The chimps are pretty funny too

  11. This looks like such a wonderful day filled with fun stuff πŸ™‚ I wish I could try that strawberry butter, it sounds like it would be… the bee’s knees. I don’t know why I just said that. I’m so lame, haha! Whatever. I actually tried one of those bugs once. It was Cinco De Mayo two years ago and I was out and about. Maybe a little tipsy. This bar was doing this whole Mayan theme (or something of the sort) and they were giving them out and I tried one… it didn’t taste like anything but chips, but just the fact that I knew what I was eating made me wanna gag and I had the taste in my mouth for the rest of the night. Fun.

My favorite zoo animal… I’m not sure. I really like all the wild cats, they were always my favorite but I like the bears too. I guess all dangerous animals are awesome to me. I find others kind of boring. Man, I miss the zoo. I need to go soon while it’s still semi-decent outside.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, yes! The THOUGHT of it would probably be the worst! And the fact that you couldn’t get rid of the taste? Ahhhh! On the flip side, the strawberry butter taste NOTHING like bugs…or chips! πŸ˜‰ It’s a bit different from what I was expecting…kind of has a roasted/syrupy taste to it if that makes sense. It’s definitely sweet…as in too sweet for me to have on toast. I’m thinking it would make a good addition to some plain oats or yogurt though! πŸ˜€

Right now is PERFECT zoo weather! Get out there while you can!

  12. katie says:

Family time is the BEST time! Your mom and sis are beauties like you! Your little cousin is adorable!

My favorite zoo animal was always the penguins! I always wanted to have one for a pet!

Love you and love that you joined in for MIMM again, thank you!!!

  13. Simone says:

That looks like so much fun! I have a weird obsession with giraffes… I just think they are the cutes/oddest looking things and I cant get enough πŸ™‚

  14. How cute!!! The zoo looks like so much fun πŸ˜€

  15. Your family is so darn cute! I’m the only redhead in mine, so I don’t get to have such cute ginger photos. πŸ™‚ [I also want those hats.]
