What I ‘Wiched Wednesday

Hey guys!

Or should I say, “What up my dawgs?!” I mean, if I’m gonna keep up with my new
rapper persona, I gotta learn the lingo, right? πŸ˜‰

As you guys dawgs know, I’m down to the final days before my Florida vacation. So as not to have a fridge full of science experiments when I get back in a week, in an amazing act of willpower forethought, I decided to skip the farmers’ market for the last TWO WEEKS!

Yeah, I know…it was hard.
#twss πŸ˜‰

So what’s a girl to do with a fridge not-so-full of fruit and veggie remnants, a loaf of bread, a CRAZY amount of cheese (always), and a bag full of fresh herbs?

What I 'Wiched Wednesday

You take a minute to shed a tear for the loss of yourΒ Salacious Salads and then start slapping sh-…STUFF between slices of carby goodness, snapping pics along the way! Oh and then you go and vandalize Jenn’s What I Ate Wednesday button with the cutest freakin’ clip art in the WORLD!

Um, I mean…FIRST you take the easy way out and whip up an old childhood favorite…

Peanut Butter Blueberry & Jelly SandwichCrunchy peanut butter, a handful of fresh blueberries, and my new favorite blueberry jam

Then you get a little more adventurous and mix things up a bit…

Peanut Butter Banana Honey & Fig Sandwich

Crunchy peanut butter (hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!), banana, fresh figs, cinnamon, and a drizzle of honey

Wait, wait, wait, my Instagram picture does it more justice…

Peanut Butter Fig & BananaTa-ta-ta tasty with cheese-ay HONEY! πŸ˜‰

Then, after an enormous cool/rainy/foggy/f*cking depressing front moves in, things start to get warmer…

Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese & Basil SandwichAmy’s low sodium tomato bisque with a grilled cheese and basil sandwich

Grilled Cheese & Basil SandwichPre-dunk shot

And the toasty cheesy deliciousness didn’t stop there…

Tuna Melt Sandwich & Carrots

Tuna melt with basil and tomato and a side of crunchy carrot sticks

Tuna Melt Sandwich & Beet ChipsTuna melt with basil, tomato, and BALSAMIC GLAZE with a side of crunchy (slightly overcooked) beet chips πŸ˜€

But lunch wasn’t the only meal getting some ‘wichy love…

EAT (Egg, Avocado, Tomato) Sandwich

EAT (egg, avocado, tomato)…with a side of yolkporn! πŸ˜‰

And then, when you’re down to the LAST SLICE OF BREAD, a bit of gourmet flare comes out…

Open-Faced Chicken Sandwich with Bleu Cheese & FigsSalad turned (open-faced) sandwich: Toast, onion slice, chicken, bleu cheese, and figs broiled and topped with walnuts, parsley, and HONNNNNNNNEY!

Died…AND gone…to HEAVEN!

So there ya have it, my life sandwiched between two (or thirteen)Β slices of bread…peanut butter, tuna, cheese, and all! Hmm, now THAT would be aΒ #strangebutgood combo! πŸ˜‰

What’s in your favorite sandwich?

What’s the best thing you’ve eaten this week?

    Wait…..those beetchips?? I want them!
And well, there is not a lot that can beat Nutbutter on Sandwich. My favorite is the ‘crack’ spread (you know what I mean) mixed with almond butter and honey. Oh YES.
    Happy WIAW Love!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hmmm, I’ve paired the crack spread with peanut butter but haven’t thought to try almond butter! But seriously…what DOESN’T that stuff taste good with…or on…or in…cover me in CRACK SPREAD!! Lol

  2. I love making my G-Free corn tortillas hummus and spinach sandwiches as well as a classic crunchy almond butter and apple butter sandwich grilled on my tiny George Foreman Grill!

  3. Jessie says:

Truth: You should open up your own restaurant that only consists of pancakes & sandwiches. No doubt that your business wouldn’t blooms. I even bet you’d be featured on Triple D πŸ™‚

  4. So many epic sandwich concoctions going on there- and so creative! My favourite sandwich would have to be chicken, avocado and vegemite- the salty spread goes so well with the creamy avocado!

Best thing I’ve eaten this week…that’s a hard one, but maybe the curried tuna patties! Had to get creative with the canned goodness!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yum!! I LOVE Vegemite and just happen to have some in my pantry…I will definitely be trying this combo soon! Thanks, Arman! πŸ™‚

And seriously, curry with just about anything! Love mixing it into chicken and tuna salads! Tuna patties sound great!

  5. We did grilled cheese and tomato soup on Monday! You really can’t beat it, especially only drizzly days! (We put fresh tomato in ours and omg it was SO good.)

  6. Fran@BCDC says:

So very clever and so very tasty looking, Heather! You’re making me Hungry!!

  7. I’ve never had it, but the last sandwich you posted is my favorite. I almost passed out from the thought of that food porn.

  8. Yum to all of those breaded meals!! They look great. I had a ham and tomato toasted sourdough roll this morning and it was pretty damn good!

  9. I flipping love sandwiches, so this post makes me so happy. I went through a phase when I was like 16-20 where I ate a sandwich every single day and I would only order sandwiches at restaurants haha. I’ve expanded my palate these days, but I still love sandwiches. My favourite combo is oven roasted turkey, sharp cheddar, apple slices, and fig jam, grilled to melty perfection!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ahhh yes…I knew there was a favorite combo of yours that included the fig jam but I couldn’t remember what! I just happen to have all of those ingredients in my kitchen right now! It would be an absolute shame not to try it out…especially since you’re basically my foodie twin when it comes to taste preferences! πŸ˜‰

  10. Did you know that sandwiches are my #1 favorite food? Well, they are. So this post is incredibly sexual to me. I don’t know why, but that PB&J sandwich is literally making me drool. Sadly, I don’t have any jam, but you’re kind of making me feel like I need to go buy some.

  11. You’re making me want to run out and buy a loaf of bread! We’re not big sandwich people, so I don’t think I even have bread right now. That being said, a big gooey grilled cheese (usually with a combo of cheese…swiss and mozzarella is a particular favourite) and a big pile of ketchup for dipping makes me pretty happy!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I’ve still yet to make a multi-cheese grilled cheese sandwich…that needs to change soon! And yes, grilled cheese is NOTHING without ketchup for dipping! Mmmmm!

  12. Holy moly, how did you know I’ve been craving sandwiches?! This is so awesome… holy crap that grilled cheese.. those pb&j’s (sans figs, eeeek, they creep me out)

I’m loving it. Definitely jealous of your Florida trip too! Should be fun πŸ™‚

  13. It is time for the Wiching hour πŸ˜‰ muahahahaha

  14. Ummm…. the last one looks amazeballs! They all look good really but the figs look oh so good! I made some slightly burnt beet chips last weekend too. They reminded me of burnt marshmallows! Still kind of good though πŸ™‚

  15. turkey club, or a grandpa smith (from hometown’s local bakery: granny smith, turkey, mustard, havarti on cinnamon raisin bread), or nut butter and jam, or chicken salad.

ok, so I have a lot of favorites.

Best thing I’ve eaten all week: anything that comes off the BBQ.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my GOSH!! That Grandpa Smith sandwich sounds amazing!! I LOVE savory sandwiches on sweet bread! I went through a phase a year or so ago where all I wanted for breakfast was an egg sandwich with cheese and jam on cinnamon raisin bread…SO good! And seriously, chicken salad on a fluffy croissant is just about the best thing ever!

  16. Mmmm sandwiches! I also use up extra veggies in the fridge by throwing them into my hamburger helper…or this fall I will be throwing it into chili! Yum! Have fun in Florida girlie! πŸ™‚ I will try not to tell you how jealous I am about a trip to the beach. πŸ˜‰

  17. mmmm I love a good ‘wich. actually, I don’t think there is such thing as a bad ‘wich, unless its the plain turkey and American my mom use to make me! haha

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Or the peanut butter and jelly that ended up at the bottom of your lunch bag UNDER your juice box that sat in the heat of the school bus while you were on a field trip…whomp whomp! Lol

  18. Emily says:

It has been FAR too long since I whipped up a sandwich. I’ve been on a wrap/salad/snack plate kick lately so sandwiches have definitely taken a backseat. Booo…must change that!
Like most of my food, my sandwich favorites are super simple; PB&J, PB&Banana, and a good ol’ Grilled Cheese. Sometimes I add tomato and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar to my grilled cheese (sounds weird, tastes AMAZING). Although, I can’t stop staring at that gorgeous open-faced sandwich you have at the end! That flavor combination…holy moly…

  19. Wow, you make some delicious sandwiches! They look and sound delicious! I love your spin on PB sammies!

  20. Mmm. You’re making me crave soup!

  21. Holy crap, you’re killing me over here with all of these tasty sandwich pics!! Yummo!!
My favorite sandwich is PB&J or PB & banana. Mmm….

  22. The grilled cheese and pb& j are calling my name, omg they look so good!

  23. Annie says:

Saw this on BuzzFeed and instantly thought of you and your love of figs:

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, I don’t know whether to thank you or hate you for sharing this! So many FIGSSSSS! Must have them ALL! *drool* Lol

  24. I don’t think I could pick a favorite here because I want them ALL. You combined some of my favorite things: bread and cheese and then intensified it. Wow. Just wow.

  25. OMG how did I miss this post? What gorgeous sandwiches πŸ˜€ I can’t tell you which one I’d want & love the most, they alllll look amazing!

  26. Mmmm fresh figs! I had the pleasure of finding them a total of one time this summer
