The Case of the Forgotten Liebster

Last week, I confessed that while I like to keep a nice and neat organized environment most of the time, on the INSIDE it tends to resemble the bedroom of a teenager…what ARE those dirty socks doing in that pizza box?!

Liebster Award

Moldy pepperoni aside, it’s been over a YEAR since I was first nominated for the Liebster award and over six MONTHS since I last posted my answers to some very important questions. I mean, people must know…what WOULD my last meal be?! And now, for some other life or death blogger questions… πŸ˜‰

From Miss Polkadot atΒ Let’s Get Living:

1. What’s your motto in life?
Try anything at least ONCE! Whether it be a new food or a spontaneous activity that scares you a little, life is all about adventure and really, what’s the point in being here if we don’t embrace as many experiences as possible?

2. What is one of your quirky habits?
Just one? πŸ˜‰ Well, I have this thing with odd numbers…when making a list, I can have 3, 5, or 7 things, but if not any of those three, then it has to be 10….my alarm has to be set in divisions of 5…and for some reason any number ending in 7 makes my eye twitch!

3. What nicknames do you have?
I always wished I did, but I never really had a nickname growing up, besides the super creative use of pairing rhyming words with my name…oh if I had a nickel for every “Heather Feather” that was thrown my way!

4. What is your favorite way to treat yourself?

Park Walk PicsI am well versed in retail therapy, massages are now my favorite way to drool on myself (sorry foodies), and I’ve been known to dive head-first into a trough of fro-yo after a hard week, but honestly, nothing makes me feel better than a nice long walk at the park…especially when following behind the lens of my camera!

5. What would you like to be remembered for by others?
I hope each day that I exude genuineness in everything I do…that I come across as a woman who made the most of her days, learned to embrace her faults, loved with an open heart, and found the joy in every day.

Wow…way to get deep, MP! I’m making myself tear up over here!

From Kammie at Sensual Appeal:

1. What was your favorite class in high school?
I grew up in a small town so liberal arts classes were kinda slim for picking, but luckily after signing up for art all four years, I finally got it in my schedule my senior year AND I got to take it with my best friend, Sherri! We had a blast and I still have some of my art projects…I’ll have to share them with you guys some day!

2. What’s the number one place you’d like to visit?
EUROPE!! Just please don’t make me narrow it down to a specific country…I just want to be transplanted there for (at least) a year and eat my way back home! Ha!

3. What kind of climate do you wish you could live in?
Omg, best question ever! I would LOVE to live somewhere where it’s around 70 degrees (21 for all you metric people out there) all year long, mostly sunny, and NO SNOW! The man-friend is convinced I would get bored living in a place that lacked changing seasons, but I beg to differ!

4. When did you start your journey in the kitchen?
When I moved out and started college, my roommates thought I was a friggin’ chef…all because I knew how to throw 5 cans of stuff and a packet of seasoning together with some ground meat and call it chili, but honestly, that’s about the ONLY thing I knew how to make…other than spaghetti, which, less face it, is basically the same thing only minus the beans and add the noodles! πŸ˜‰ It actually wasn’t until I got married (yes, I was once married for all who didn’t know) that I got bitten by the domesticated bug and started learning how to cook, but I would ALWAYS follow a recipe…like to a tee…like if I didn’t have parsley for garnish, I would go out to the store just for it! It’s wasn’t until I discovered food blogs that I actually got in there and realized I had a hidden talent all along! πŸ˜€

5. If you had one dish to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Aponte's Pizza Tomato & Broccoli

As long as I got the choice of unlimited toppings, PIZZA!!!

I totally forgot to tell you guys about the pizza place the man-friend and I stopped at on our way back from Cleveland last month. While indulging in a little Travel Channel one weekend, we caught an episode of Restaurant Impossible (love!) and watched Robert Irvin totally turn this ho-hum pizza joint into a thing of beauty. We actually made a point to map out Aponte’s Pizzeria as a stop and, while we both agree that the owner probably went back to his “special” sauce (the one that Robert told him to change), the crust and toppings were amazing!

Aponte's Pizza Pepperoni & Olive

The man-friend went with his favorite of pepperoni and black olive while I ordered the sun-dried tomato and broccoli with fresh mozzarella!

Ok, so I still have two more nominations, but this post has gotten long enough! I’m off to do some blog reading of my own and I know my attention span is only so long so I’ll “see” you back tomorrow for some #strangebutgood deliciousness! πŸ˜€

What ONE dish could you eat for the rest of your life?

What’s your favorite foodie show?

  1. baby girl, we are so alike πŸ™‚ my jaw dropped when i read your motto πŸ˜€ i grew up saying you don’t know until you try πŸ˜‰

long walks make me feel better, too πŸ™‚ it seriously can change my day around πŸ™‚ i would love to go on one with you some day <3

art was my favourite class too πŸ˜€ i won some art competitions and my parents have some of my good stuff framed in their house πŸ˜‰

aaaaand thanks for making the metric conversion πŸ˜‰ that sounds like my PERFECT weather too. the big thing – NO EFFING SNOW

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow, that’s awesome Meg! I had no idea you were into art! And yeah, I’m TOTALLY with you on the no snow thing…I’d be happy if I never saw it again for the rest of my life! Funny how things change when you become an adult…I used to pray with every ounce of my being that we’d get just a few inches when I was little! Haha!

  2. I <3 you! All you mentioned in answer to my last question is what I already value you for, just so you know. I won't get all sappy here but if my letter wasn't proof enough … well, then I guess I need to send another one to make sure :).
Although I'm a bit disappointed you didn't at least pretend Germany (!) was the one place in Europe you wanted to visit [first – not necessarily the only one because I'm trying to offer a compromise here ;)]. We have to (!) go on a walk together and you know I need you to prepare pancakes the right way for me. Can't let a girl go through life without some proper pancakes, right?
Seeing it now my "one quirky habit" question seems ridiculous: as if I could limit myself to just one …
Looking forward to that fancy pants letter, by the way :).

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I <3 you right back, missy!!! And I'm working on your letter...promise! I just keep getting distracted by work, and sleep, and LACK of sleep...hence the reason I'm up at 3am on my night off! Hmm, guess I could be writing it now, huh? πŸ˜‰

  3. I love visiting places that I see on television. I watch Travel Channel and Food Network all the time, so I make mental notes. There’s a hotel in Boston that has a chocolate buffet… I need to go there. Plus, I love Boston, so it has to happen. Once when I was in Annapolis, MD, my friends and I visited Chick and Ruth’s Deli, which has some food challenges. We all shared a six pound milk shake and it was amazing. A guy almost won a challenge when we were there (1 lb deli sandwich and 6 lb shake) but he threw it up as soon as he finished… outside thankfully.

  4. HEATHER I DO THE EXACT SAME THING WITH MY ALARM!!!! So I’m not the only crazy in the world! I have to eat food in pairs too. It has to be 2 cookies, 44 chips etc…clearly I have undiagnosed OCD. I’ll console myself in my favourite food which is by farrrrr cake. I could eat birthday cake for the rest of my life and be perfectly content. Sushi too maybe? But cake definitely.

  5. Only one, just one? I think I’d choose pancakes and eggs — I’m a sucker for salty + sweet! But lately I’ve had a huge craving for anything Italian and Mexican… More pasta and beans please!

  6. You and I are both kind of crazy, except my twitchy number is anything ending in 4. Don’t even get me started on freaking 2014. It’s gonna be anxiety central all year long. Oh geez, I’m getting all freaky outy just typing those numbers. CRAZY TOWN.

One dish for the rest of my life? Sandwiches, with unlimited toppings, and unlimited bread options. I guess I could settle for pizza, too ;).

  7. Baahhhhh one dish is too difficult. Sushi? or tacos…with crunchy shell and unlimited toppings, particularly guac πŸ˜‰
As for favourite foodie show, I love anything that Anthony Bourdain does. He’s actually convinced me that I need to go spend some time in Asia (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia) just for the food.

  8. I refer to you as Broccoli… so you DO have a nickname! πŸ™‚

1 food for the rest of my life… that’s really tough! Chocolate cake. Or homemade pasta with meatballs and fresh tomato sauce. With red pepper flakes.

P.S. I think I want to go back to Italy in the spring. My winemaker frind just emailed me. You should come.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

You have a winemaker friend?! Omg, can you just take me and “forget” me?! Introduce me…we’ll get married (even if your friend is a woman…I don’t judge)…and I’ll live drunkenly happily ever after! πŸ˜‰

PS, I love it when you call me Broccoli! Lol

  9. Babe, ya know if you don’t visit me on your trip to Europe ya will in big trouble!! Considering that we have the best friggin’cheese in the whole wide world (I believe)!!!
And excuse me – your nickname is PANCAKE QUEEN!!! Didn’t you know???

Ps. Liebster is German….not Leibster – or was that another joke I didn’t get?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww hell! I knew I’d end up spelling it wrong at least once! Haha! Whoops? And thank you for the reminder….how could I not count my royal title?! πŸ˜‰

PS, Five minutes after setting foot in Europe, I better have my arms around you! xoxo

  10. ONE dish?! How is that a fair question?! Honestly, though, I think I would choose oatmeal — especially because you didn’t say anything about limiting the toppings πŸ˜‰ That way I could make ’em savoury or sweet, get my chocolate fix in, enjoy nut butter to my heart’s content, and whip bananas like nobody’s business. But pizza would be a good choice too… especially since you could make it dessert pizza. Clearly, it’s all about the toppings.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Clearly! If I could only choose one dish with a set amount of toppings, it would be a no go…I’m sorry, call me a princess, but I’ve got to have options! Haha! And yeah, oatmeal would have to be my second choice! πŸ™‚

  11. Pizza, huh. I am actually surprised. I’m not a big pizza eater but damn, that photo…. definitely makes me re-think my preferences haha. And about learning to cook and following a recipe to the tee, yeah I was like that in the beginning too. Exactly the same. And it’s funny cause now I know that, especially in cooking, we CAN get creative or even leave certain ingredients out. I just throw stuff together now and it comes out every time, Yay for cooking. Haha.

  12. Kat says:

yesssss I could totally eat pizza every day for the rest of my life! Although, I haven’t had pizza in a LONG time now, and Ive been craving it like nobody’s business! I just want the Super Bowl to come around already so that I can eat pizza all day and shake my booty to Bruno Mars at half time.
As for nicknames? I’ve had a zillion. Growing up it was KK because I couldn’t say my entire name so I called myself KK. My great gpa called me Katio, my daddy and siblings call me Kate, my soccer girls call me Kat or Big Red, and I had some friends who used to call me Pebbles :):)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww, Pebbles! I like it! And just FYI, in my head, I call you Kit Kat! πŸ˜‰

Girl, I know you’ve been feigning for some pizza with all those sports commercials! Make it happen!!

  13. Quit making me so hungry with all of those yummy pizza pictures!!! πŸ˜‰

  14. I’ve completely lost track of old awards I haven’t filled out… Need to get on that I guess!

#1 Fellow small town girl here! We had absolutely zero liberal arts electives aside from basic Art 1 and Art 2. Just this year they began offering classes other than English 1/2/3/4 as well. Mythology! Ugh. I would have so loved taking that.

I wish I had had a cool nickname growing up too. For awhile people called me Maddy but now only my mom occasionally calls me that… or random strangers. They just assume that my name is Maddy from Madison. Um. No.

I wish I could eat endless amounts of cookie dough for the rest of my life. Favorite foodie show… America’s Test Kitchen probably.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Mmmm, coooooooookie dough! Yeah, I could totally get down with that! And omg, they “offered” Mythology in my high school too, but supposedly they never had enough people signing up for it to actually make it a class! I would have been on cloud freakin’ NINE if I’d gotten it though!

  15. Robyn :) says:

I could eat sushi for the rest of my life, but right now I have to limit it to just cooked fish or no fish because I have a little fish of my own in my belly πŸ™‚

I like watching The Pioneer Woman on Food Network

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh Robyn!! You’re pregnant? Omg, Congratulations!! Aww, yay!!! How far along are you? Boy or girl? Can the middle name be Broccoli? πŸ˜‰

  16. Sarah Pie says:

Thanks for the reminder, I have some of these I should probably answer too! If I could only eat one thing forthe rest of my life it would have to be the gluten free chicken picante pizza at Biaggis… It’s a chain Italian place, but this pizza is seriously swoon worthy πŸ™‚

  17. An antipasto board that included cheese, quince paste, crusty bread and dips and has to come with unlimited red wine. Yep I’d be happy with that.

By the way I want to alert you to a spelling error in one of your answers above. You wrote that the country you most want to visit is Europe but it is actually spelt
    A-U-S-T-R-A-L-I-A ….please update ASAP πŸ˜‰

  18. I could either eat pizza (with a ton of different toppings and soft, chewy crust) or an Italian picnic of prosciutto or salami, cheese, marinated artichokes, marinated and grilled eggplant, roasted red peppers, pesto and wonderful focaccia bread!

  19. Europe is my #1 place I want to visit to (and I agree – way too hard to narrow it down to one country)! Blogger backpacking trip? Whaddya say? πŸ˜‰

I could eat pizza for the rest of my life too… or oatmeal… or stir fry. Too hard to choose!

My favourite foodie show is a tie between Diners, Drive ins, and Dives and You Gotta Eat Here (the Canadian version). I think I’ve probably seen every episode of both of them at least twice haha.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, a blogger backpacking trip! Pure brilliance! Now I just need to find myself a sugar daddy so I can just quit my job…. πŸ˜‰

LOVE Triple D…and I secretly wish that I was the host! I’m quirky, I’m funny, and if I have to wear my sunglasses on the back of my head, so be it! Lol

  20. Whenever we’re traveling I always find the restaurants I saw on food network or something…I feel like such a creeper!

  21. I love the Restaurant Impossible show and am a wee bit jealous you made it to a place that appeared on the show. Guess I show have taken you to Melt since that place was on Man vs Food. Although one meal would have been enough for the entire day, and it would have been worth it.
That first pizza photo is the money shot, even though I do love the fall foliage, which is why I couldn’t live somewhere that’s seventy and sunny all the time. I need to see the leaves turn and eventually drop before being reborn all over again in the Spring. I would like a little less snow and cold though; one month of winter would be just right.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ok…one month…I might could handle that! I just hate that winter seems to drag on forrrrrrrever around here! AND it’s starting even earlier this year…it’s only going to get up to 43 on Tuesday! Waaaaaah!

Oh I love Man vs. Food! Melt will have to be on the list for my next visit! πŸ™‚

  22. So after reading your Greek’d Quiche post (and subsequently drooling) I decided to try my attempt of Sexy I mean Arman Bombing your blog…which subsequently was a fail whale decision seeing as I have two posts to ‘bomb’….just wait until next week, Heather Feather.

I love getting to know these quirks and facts about you (not in a creepy way… ok in a creepy way) but I love what you’ll be remembered for- you don’t come across as what you stated- you exude that, and much more. Sorry to sound sappy. πŸ™‚

Chicken titties. There you go, sappiness gone.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ok, so you made me smile SO big…and then I laughed my ass off!

Though the bomb be but little, it be fierce THE BEST! Seriously, I just hate that I get so behind on reading during the week…I don’t know how all you guys keep up with the reading and the writing and the LIVING! I can only seem to do one at a time…per day! And every time I get all caught up, I’m like, I’m going to STAY caught up now…and then one day goes by and BAM! Beeeeeeeehind! Ha, I said “behind”! But just so you know, I only broccoli bomb my favorite bloggers! πŸ˜‰

  23. I LOVE you!! πŸ™‚ SO, let’s run away somewhere warm together. The man-friend and Luvy can have their seasons… they can come visit us in the sunshine whenever they want! πŸ˜‰
