Smiling Out Loud

So it’s Thursday…finally!

Ever had one of those weeks that just seems to draaaaaaaaaag on by? I swear I’ve lived through two weeks since Saturday! While I’d really rather not get into the reason why my Β shitty weekend seems to be following me around, I DO want to share with you guys some things from this week that have helped me crack a smile…

Tiger

1. Seriously, does this need any sort of caption?!

Actually it does…because I still can’t decide if he’s reading along with me or melting into my arm! πŸ˜‰

2. Remember how I mentioned some musically-inspired sweaty workouts? Well, one of them just happened to involve me…running a mile…in NINE MINUTES!

Christmas Presents

3. Christmas continues!

This little box of goodies could not have come at a better time! My girl Melissa SURE does know how to spoil me…foodie goodies, nail polish, and a bottle of stuff that I keep trying to remind myself is NOT edible! 😯

4. I treated myself to a little manicure the other day! No picture because I totally smudged like seven of my fingers about four minutes after they finished “drying” but I went withΒ Essie’s A Crewed Interest topped with glitter because well, it’s GLITTER and we all know glitter makes everything better!

New Quest Bar Flavor5. &)&%^(&$%&#!!

Have you seen this?! Omg, seriously…I’m fanning myself! Now if I could only convince Quest that the next flavor needs to be blueberry muffin, my life will be complete!

6. My latestΒ TWELVEΒ accepted submissions fromΒ Foodgawker!

Wine

7. Wine o’clock!

This would be yesterday MORNING, when I came home from my shift at the hospital and cracked open my Christmas wine…you guys may be waking up and starting your days at 7am, but this was MY night cap…and I totally had a buzz after one little glass!Β #lightweight But then I slept for NINE hours! #winning

8. COMMAS, commas, commas, commas! πŸ˜†

Selfie

9. I came, I saw, I conCURLED!

With my penchant for creating devastatingly humorous puns (and the sheer amount of humbleness I surround myself with), I just HAD to snap a selfie after I decided on a whim to break out the curling iron last night. It really is amazing what a little primping can do for the mood…

10. Especially since THIS is what my hair looked like before! 😯

  1. cool link up πŸ˜€ i didn’t know it existed πŸ˜€ i loved reading about what made you smile <3 our FaceTime date definitely made ME smile this week πŸ™‚ and our chat this morning <3 oh and when you randomly texted me this weekend πŸ˜€ made me super happy πŸ˜€ i guess you just always know how to make me smile, huh????? πŸ˜‰ love you friend and i so wish we could paint our nails together and then MAYBE, but highly unlikely, we could keep each other occupied for long enough NOT to smudge them πŸ˜€

  2. Holy gorgeousness! Your hair looks amazing, lady! I always have big plans to curl my hair, but they’ll hold it for all of 5 minutes before doing their own thing again so I don’t usually bother. Dratted stick straight hair 😑 And I seriously canNOT believe that you get so surprised about getting accepted to Foodgawker. I mean… hello! Your pics are absolutely gorgeous. Also… I now want a cat… which is a shame since I’m allergic πŸ™

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yeah, but FG makes me super critical of myself…for these 12 to get accepted, I’ve probably had about double that REJECTED! All the more reason to party when another makes the cut! πŸ˜‰

  3. I need to find where they are selling these bad boys. I need to try this new flavor!!!

  4. Awesome hair, lady! I’d love to rock curls like these. Too sad my hair decided to be as flat as possible, so even a curling iron and tons of hairspray don’t do the job. And how cute is your cat! Lou always finds a way to lay on me while I am reading or watching a series. Usually it looks pretty uncomfortable for her and is super uncomfortable for me. But who could resist those eyes?

  5. Aparna B. says:

I’m sorry you’re having a poopy doopy week, but it’s almost the weekend, hooray! Things that have me smiling this week have got to be: watching the pounds go down on the scale, moar running, new running playlists!, watching mewvies up for oscar best pic!

  6. Your hair looks awesome Heather! So pretty! I’m seriously dying to try that new Quest bar flavor! I’m mean…that’s just pure genius. Want now!

  7. Sarah says:

This post just made me smile πŸ™‚ Your cat is adorable and you are gorgeous!!! And I love that you drink wine at 7am. You are my hero!

  8. Ugh, I’m so sorry your week is dragging on. Mine has been flying by because of the Monday off (MLK day) and my Friday off (genius scheduling on my part). Don’t worry — you’re so close to another weekend, and hopefully it’s better than the last <3.

Your hair is SEXXXY HOT. I love it. Although, I think it looks pretty ferocious in the "before" picture too.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yeah, I just went from “sex hair” to SEXY hair! πŸ˜‰ Haha! Thanks, girlie! Hope your studying is going well this weekend!

  9. I definitely peed a little when yo IGed that new quest bar flavor. There goes my budget…

  10. Awww, tiger is the cutness in animal!! I so miss my cat!
And your hair – JUST GORGEOUS lady!!
Oreo Quest bar – I’m in heaven. Maybe I should send them a jar of crack to convince them to make a flavor out of it??

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh Lord! Crack flavored Quest bars? I would die!!! And thank you so much for the compliment on my hair! I hope you’re having a great weekend, love!

  11. pfft, of course your photos got accepted – they’re gorgeous! And speaking of gorgeous…you just look amazing! I wish my hair would curl, but they usually fall out within an hour whenever I curl it. My hair is determined to be stick-straight, apparently.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh believe ME, I’ve had my fair share of rejections…probably about double of what I’ve submitted. Let’s just say, submitting to FG can be very humbling (and frustrating) at times! Ha!

And I only WISH my curls would last! I think I got a good 2-3 hours out of this do…I’ve got to find some sort of product to use in my hair beforehand! It’s crazy…I’ve GOT naturally curly hair, but curled curls won’t hold! Madness!

  12. Caitlin says:

Your hair looking amazing and hey, it matches your wine! (redhead get it? HAAA). Congrats on the Foodgawker accepted submissions! And that Christmas package is everything. Sesame cashews? Nut butter? Ice Cream Man body products which sound but probably don’t taste delish? Gimme!
Oh, and I can’t WAIT to try that Quest bar flavor. Your blueberry muffin idea is a good one!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yep, I was a lucky girl for sure! And thank you so much, Caitlin! Hmm, wonder if I drink enough if my hair will turn redder? πŸ˜‰

  13. Your hair looks beautiful! And I can respect any woman who drinks wine at 7 am. Heck yeah. #itsthesmallthings

  14. Kat says:

Holy crap….a 9 minute mile?! Your my hero!! I just ran 3 miles in about 35 minutes. Although I took walking breaks and let my dog pee. I was pretty proud of myself πŸ™‚
And seriously…those curls!!! You looks ahhhhh-mazing. Beyond gorgeous. Not that you don’t always look that way, just saying….

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Well, that’s just ONE mile…still working on that whole endurance thing! πŸ˜‰ But thank you! And actually, when I curled my hair, I thought of you! xoxo

  15. I’m going to turn you and Sarah into drinkers yet! You guys better be coordinating a trip down here soon. I have places to take you!!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I don’t drink often…but when I do, I do it at 7am! πŸ˜‰ I didn’t even think about coordinating with Sarah, but yeah! I’ll check with her to see what she’s got going on next month! πŸ™‚

  16. LOVE the hair and oH MY GOD THAT QUEST BAR OMG I NEED IT

  17. Love the curls – beautiful lady! πŸ™‚

  18. This week has gone WAY too slow for me. Jesse has been working extra long hours and I’ve been sick so I feel like all I do is wait around to go to bed hahaha.

The things that did make me smile this week though? Successfully lightened up cupcakes (that taste ah-freaking-mazing), how childishly excited Jesse got when I decided to make us pancakes for breakfast on a work day (I know, we’re real risk takers :P) and my pup who has followed me around all week making sure I was okay!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh no! Sorry to hear you haven’t been feeling well…hopefully those mid-week pancakes are releasing they’re healing powers by now! πŸ˜‰

  19. Your hair looks gorgeous!!

Congratulations on 12 food gawker acceptances that is friggin awesome!! I’ve not even tried to submit as I need to get better on photography first.

Your cat is jealous of the book he has a glint that says I want attention now!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww, thanks lady! And you’ll get there on the photography! Actually…you should try submitting those brown rice bites of yours! I thought those pics turned out GREAT!

  20. Sarah Pie says:

Congrats on the mile! And on the crazy bouncy curls (though I kinda liked the before looks). Sounds like there was a lot of little good to break up this loooonnnggg week.

  21. Lovin’ your hair! You sexy mama.
Also yay for foodgawker accepts! You deserve it πŸ™‚

  22. I totally thought today was Friday, but no…it’s Thursday. This week has been loooong. Congrats on the food gawker accepts!

  23. Hahahaha I love the 7 am wine shot. It was 12 o’clock somewhere… err in England?

LOVE your hair. Come teach me how to curl my hair? I’m beauty product illiterate.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

      Haha! Right? πŸ˜‰

And I’m right there with you on the beauty products! Maybe if I knew what to use in my hair before hand, the curls would’ve lasted more than just a few hours! *womp womp*

  24. Maria says:

Ahh, your Gawker page! Beautiful. I drool.

I’m still mastering the curling iron (I grew up with brothers) and I definitely should come to you for tips! Gorgeous.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you, Maria! I’ve had my fair share of rejections, but it’s nice to see how many have made the “cut”! πŸ˜€

Ugh, I WISH I had some tips! Patience and a LOT of hairspray? Although, after all that work, the curls only lasted a couple of hours before they fell out…boo!

  25. Julie says:

Oh my gosh, that’s such an awesome bag of goodies!

I cannot wait for the cookies and cream!

  26. I was seriously freaking out when I saw the Cookies n’ Cream flavor! The flavors just keep getting better and better, I swear! πŸ˜€
I wouldn’t mind having a pet cuddle up next to me when reading. πŸ™‚
Congrats on the nine minute mile! You’re on a roll. πŸ˜€

You’re gorgeous by the way! πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you sweets! I couldn’t help but give myself a little pat on the back after that last jaunt on the treadmill! Slowly but surely, I’ll make my way BACK! *duh duh duhhhh* πŸ˜‰ I CAN’T WAIT for that bar to be in my hands…oh my gosh, cookies and cream is probably my second favorite flavor…just after cookie dough. And if it’s anywhere as good as the cookie dough bar, then I’m gonna need to buy stock in the company! Lol

  27. Oh your kitty is so cute. πŸ™‚ My kitties love when I read library books because they have a new smell… so of course they rub their entire bodies all over it!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

So THAT’S why he’s been pestering me! I borrowed the books from my mom so I guess they have a different scent to them…makes sense now that I think about it! Haha!

  28. Bravo. You deserve all the applause lady gaga has to give. Foodgawker is finally doing something right!

When I first saw that kitty picture I thought it was a toy!!!!!! Or some strange pillow….Now as for that Quest bar flavour. Seeing as you guys just got it, we’d probably get it here by the end of 2016. By then they’d have done the Jelly Belly thing and have over 50 flavours. Buttered popcorn questbar πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Duuuuude! How #strangebutgood would that be? Yeah, I’m the total wacko who actually loves the buttered popcorn jelly beans…and I don’t even really like JELLY BEANS! Haha!

  29. Shitty week or not, there are so many congratulations in order: um hello, a mile in nine minutes. *blows on fingers, dusts off shoulder. 12, count them 12, food gawker acceptances. *blows on fingers, dusts of shoulder. Teaching a cat to read, are you kidding me, you must be Houdini or something. *blows on fingers, dusts off shoulders. Rocking the gorgeous curls and sultry eyebrow raise. *blows on fingers, dusts off shoulders. I’d say you’re kicking ass and taking names. Now go blow on those damn fingers and dust off that shoulder because you are Fab-U-Lous.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Ahhhh, I FREAKING LOVE YOU!!! <- And yes, that is me shouting! πŸ˜‰ Hey, how goes it in YOUR Foodgawker world? PLEASE tell me you submitted that mac 'n cheese!
