March: Sun, Fun & Fulfillment

Hiya, peeps!

Wow, another month down! Can you believe it? There really is something to be said about the old adage, “time flies when you’re having fun” because this month has been an absolute BLUR! I know I haven’t been posting much lately and I do feel a bit about that, but to be totally honest, I’m not really missing it that much. There has been so much going on in my life lately (which I hope to share more about in the coming weeks) that to not give all my focus and attention to…to not live and breathe each magical moment, would be a sin. Another of which would be if I let a month go by that I AM blogging without a good Currently post to sum things up for the month.

So…if you would all bow your heads and worship me…err, I mean…uhh…

Scrubs Selfie

Look! What’s that! Squirrel!

Although I’ve spent most of the month sporting the “devil curls” (ohh, and I am loving the accidental double entendre there!), there’s no WAY I wasn’t going to document the first straightening of the hair since umm…November? And it still surprises that my hair has gotten this long!

Current Book:

March Books 2015

Two books in ONE month?! How about a round of applause? I mean, I don’t mean to be ostentatious, but a couple of years ago, I was lucky if I could get halfway through a magazine. Also, I have to say that finally capitulating to the cries of my inner bookworm has done wonders for ameliorating my vocabulary. 😉

Current Music:

I’ve loved Joywave since I first heard, saw, and shared with you, the undeniably genius video for “Tongues”. (Warning: NSFW)  So when I saw that they’re going to be in Nashville in a couple of months, I stormed Spotify and have now fallen in love with their entire latest album. These are some weird-looking dudes, but they are seriously talented musicians and it’d be awesome to see them live!

And this song has been in my head ALL week! (and it’s safe to watch with your parents!) 😉

Current Guilty Pleasure:

Mustache Duck Tape

Spending entirely TOO much time perusing the gas station and taking pictures of gems like these. Oh, so classy! Lol

Current Entertainment:

Misterwives at High Watt

You just can’t beat the excitement and energy of a great LIVE concert! Still riding the high from the Misterwives concert last Tuesday night. Surprising to me, I actually prefer they’re live performance to their studio recordings.

Current Wish/Needs:

For BORNS to come back to Nashville and fill this empty space in my music note-shaped heart. Is that really too much to ask? I’ll even bring him cough drops if he’s still sick!

Current Food:

Coffee Creamer Oats with Almond Butter & Strawberries

While I have been loving the fair amount of pizza and grilled deliciousness crossing my path over the last few weeks, when it comes to breakfast, especially with the drop in the temps we’ve experienced recently, I am ALL about the oats…particularly those drizzled with a bit of coffee creamer. Don’t doubt me. Just do it. Now!

Current Drink:

Green Smoothie

And when it’s been warm, there hasn’t been any denying the smoothie cravings…especially since I’m finally using up some of my old protein powder AND it makes me feel good not to have to throw away the five-pound tub of spinach that got pushed to the back of the fridge. 😯

Current Triumphs:

Kombucha Brewing

Three cheers for the utter resilience of Marilyn the SCOBY! Even after abandoning her for the last month or so, she still thrives! Although I did have to waste the last brew batch, I’m happy to be back at my Kombucha-brewing game just in time for some of my favorite fruits to come in season!

Current Bane of Existence:

I honestly couldn’t think of one until…I came home from work the other day and my garage door wouldn’t come up. Wtf?! Yeah, that was short-lived!

Current Blogger Crush:

This month, my heart goes to Arman! Being out of the blogging loop for a while now, I hate to say that I missed seeing a lot of his growth as a blogger, recipe developer, and photographer until just recently, but just have to say…WOW! Bravo to my little Aussie buddy! 😀

Current Indulgence:

PB & Banana Jelly Toast

Seriously, when you have salted caramel JIF whips to spread over any and every carbolicious surface that enters your mouth, there really is no need for further indulgences.

Current Blessing:

Love, life, and the amazing people in my life who brighten each and every day of my life. Whether they be here with me, on the other side of the country, or on the other side of the WORLD, I know that I am blessed to have such amazing people in my life and very grateful for each and every one.

Current Outfit:

New Shoes

Still breaking in the new PINK kicks and loving the days that I’m able to take my walks outside. Can’t wait for more of those in the coming weeks.

Current Excitement:

This week! Some exciting things are going down this week and I’m pretty sure I won’t have another chance to post, but I promise to give you all a well-deserved update soon!

Surprises: The Good, the Bad, and the Unfortunate

Hey there, friends!

*picture me waving frantically* 😉

I hope you’ve all had a fantastic week! We seem to have run out of summer weather passes over here so I’m hulled up in the house in my robe and fuzzy slippers, possibly with a bit too much coffee, with my fingers flying so fast on this keyboard, I’m sure to start a fire by the end of this post. Ohh, that reminds me…have any of you seen this commercial? Click it. You know you want to. Seriously. Lost. My. Shit.

Caution: Do not watch while drinking water OR with a full bladder.

So, this week went by in a FLASH! Kinda like how I’m typing this post. I watched Over the Hedge for the first time in forever the other night and I’m starting to take over the personality of Hammy. Sorry guys, I’ll try to reel it in. Squirrel!

But anyhoodles, yeah, it really did go by fast. The week. Not the movie. Though I guess the movie did to since I was busy hosting a little impromptu grill out party. Oh warm weather, please come back to me!

Grilling Out & Beer

A beer in one hand while somebody else manages the grill with there other…yep, that’s the life for me. 😉 By the way, Blue Moon’s Peach Ale is the SHIT! Definitely on the sweet side, but if you’re prepared for that…so good!

We had a menu of grilled steak kabobs and to-die-for twice-baked potatoes from the local butcher market, asparagus (a grilltime favorite over here), a Mediterranean orzo salad from Publix that honestly was a little weird (of course, I still ate it), and some toasty Cuban bread with garlic butter. Oh and hot dogs for our little one present. Gotta feed the tiny Hitlers you know. Skip to 0:14.

Going in, I knew it was going to be a busy week this week since I bought tickets to not one but TWO concerts and I was so so SO excited for the first one. Also, any trip to Nashville is also an opportunity to try out a new restaurant! Only…things didn’t go as well as hoped.

Desano's Pizza

First, my friends and I tracked down Desano’s Pizza Bakery for dinner after hearing a LOT of good things about them. While the pie photographed quite nicely and the crust was on point (chewy but with that crunch you just have to have with a thin crust), it was just…missing something. Also, not a fan of their marinara sauce which I ordered on the side.

Then it was onto the concert! Anyone heard BORNS play live yet? Well, me neither. I skipped my way up to the door, ticket in hand only to be greeted with a sign that read: “DUE TO SICKNESS, BORNS WILL NOT BE PERFORMING TONIGHT.”

Misterwives at High Watt

But I made the most of it…after pouting, cursing, and making a call to find out my tickets could not be refunded. BORNS was actually the opening act for Misterwives and though prior to that night, I’d only heard one song of theirs, I fell in LOVE with them after only a couple of minutes. Seriously. That little girl has So. Much. Energy. They have a blast on stage and it only trickles out onto the floor. Midway through the first song, I was already shaking my booty!

Misterwives Swag

I couldn’t help but come home with a shirt and some buttons. You HAVE to know they had me with that kitty!

The next concert was a new-to-me band by the name of The Barr Brothers from Montreal, Canada. (Hey to all my Canadian blends out there!) My friends are avid followers so I just figured I’d tag along. I mean, a trip to Nashville (and of course dinner) where I DON’T have to drive and it only cost me ten bucks? Yeah, I’m in!

To avoid any unpleasant surprises, we decided not to gamble with dinner and went back to Five Points Pizza which is still standing as my favorite pizza joint!

Five Points Pizza Garlic Knots

This time we tried and order of the garlic knots that we drooled over on other people’s tables last time and they were TO DIE FOR! Buttery, garlicky, deliciousness!

Five Points Pizza

Then we went with another Zeus pie complimented by a pepperoni, sausage, black olive, and jalapeno pizza….annnnnd I ordered a slice of their special for myself. No WAY I was turning down a chance to try a combo of spinach, bacon, feta, and artichoke. And? It was amazing…every last bit of it…which the five of us did not finish. But the best thing about going out for pizza are the [COLD] leftovers anyway! 😉

The concert ended up being pretty impressive. Though it’s not typically the kind of music that I’m in to, there is NO denying the musical talent of these three guys and their female harpist! A fucking HARPIST! They pulled out all the stops with this show to. Guitars for days, a whopping bass, a bicycle spoke (I shit you not), and the drummer even busted out one of these midway through. Yep, mind = BLOWN.

I’ll leave you guys with a little video to pique your interest…

And with that, I bid you adieu! Off for another weekend of zombie life!

Do you like surprises?

What’s the last thing that surprised you…good or bad?

Spring a Ding Ding!

What uuuuuuup?

How’s everyone feeling today? Good? Great? Fantastic? If not, you should becaaaaaaaaaaause…

Spring FlowersIT’S THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING!!! 😀

Woo HOO! I thought the day would never get here! And though it’s been raining on and off for most of the week and I hate it because it makes my hair look like an unkempt poodle, but damn, I’ll take rain over snow ANY day!

Besides, even with the gray skies and sporadic showers, I’ve been able to enjoy more and more time outside which means…

Green Smoothie

Lounging on the front steps sipping a now socially acceptable green smoothie…

New Shoes

Taking my BRAND NEW kicks for a walk at the park…

American Wife Book

While enjoying a WHOPPER of a romance novel (note to self: books over 400 pages are a little tedious to walk with but can I just say, I really think I’m boosting my inner bookworm’s ego. I may even start reading Game of Thrones next! 😯 )…

Annnnnd….

Grilling Out

♫ Grillin’ out maxin’ relaxin’ all cool! ♫

Oh yeah, I just busted out some Fresh Prince. Don’t pretend like you don’t know the rest of the song. And if you’re too young to know what I’m talking about, PUHLEASE for the love of all things holy, Google that shit!

So yeah, yesterday I got my grill on with some steaks, asparagus and some amazing red potato salad picked up from the local butcher’s market. Enjoyed with a glass of wine, some music and the best of company, it was the perfect way to ring in the new season!

Well, since I’ve waited until the last-minute to get this post up, I’m afraid I’m gonna have to cut it short since I have to leave for w0rk like riiiiiight NOW! Please, enjoy this song from Marian Hill in my absence. Perhaps you recognize that sick beat in the background?  It’s has been featured on Taco Bell’s new Siracha burrito commercials! Gotta love it when my music sneaks into the minds of the unknowing! Lol

I hope you all have a great weekend, enjoy some good weather, and hum this song for the rest of the night! 😉

What is your favorite springtime flower?

Anyone else on a green smoothie bender right now?
