Green Eats & Hippopotamuses?

Hey hey hey!

I want to thank you all SO much for the sweet comments on Monday’s postย and I’m SO glad you guys didn’t judge me for bringing out the hoes!

Ahh, pain meds…such a FUN ingredient in the recipe of recovery!

So, it’s been slow, but I can tell I’ve made some definite progress over the last couple of days. I’m still not able to bear weight on my leg (thus causing me to mutter obscenities every time I have to reach for those *&^% super helpful crutches), and I get a little dizzy if I’m up for more than a few minutes at a time, but my digestive system is finally “moving” along (um, TMI?), my appetite is back, and, as of yesterday I was finally allowed welcomed back the world of the showered and shampooed!

Wait, what was that about my ability to type run on sentencesย appetite?

Oh yeah, it’s BACK!

And JUST in time to celebrate another GREEN-filled Wednesday with Jenn and all my other fellow foodies! After checking out my eats, be sure to mosey on over to Peas & Crayons to see how everyone else is greening it up this month!

Now you won’t see any of my usual Snacky Kathy-nessย going on here because well, honestly, for the last two days, I’ve only been awake long enough to pee, eat, and mumble something (coherent or not) to my babysitter of the day (my family is taking shifts) before it’s off toย La La Land with my two hoes! ๐Ÿ˜‰

But as interesting as THOSE escapades sound, I’m willing to bet you came here today to see some food! So, without further hoe talk ado, let’s see
some GREEN eats!

PB & Blueberry Smoothie

Luckily, I’ve been able to manage my own meals as long as I keep them simple. While I don’t mind having some help around the house, there are few out there who can be trusted with the consistency of a GOOD smoothie. So while I DID enlist the hand of my babysitter/kitchen assistant in the production of one of the best GREEN smoothies I’ve made in a while, I was sure to handle all the controls! ๐Ÿ˜‰

And lucky for YOU, I wasn’t flying high on pain meds at the time, so I actually remember what all went into the blender!

Two words: PB&J Sandwich!

Wait, is that two words or would it be five due to abbreviation…yeah, NOW I’m on pain meds…please excuse any typos! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Recipe at the bottom of thisย hippopotamousย post!

Egg SandwichEgg whites, sprouts, and my nextย #strangebutgood concoction sandwiched between two slices of perfectly toasted wrinklyย cinnamon raisinย English muffin.

Recipe coming Friday! ๐Ÿ™‚

Sweet Potato Soup

Sweet & Spicy Sweet Potato Soup with spinach and cilantro, a sprinkle of nutritional yeast,ย and a little crunchy addition provided by these beauties…

Apple Crackers

Sweet apple flavor, crisp-crunchy texture, and absolutely PERFECT with the warm, spiciness of the soup!

Key Lime Chobani Flip

Now I’m not usually much of a dessert person, and I’m REALLY not much onย Key lime, but, when I got a craving for something a little sweet the other night, I just couldn’t resist throwing in anotherย GREENย eat so I thought I’d try another of the
Flip flavorsย thatย Chobaniย sent me last week…

Verdict: HOLY YUM!!!

The graham cracker and white chocolate chip topping was ahhhh-mazing…and surprisingly, not too sweet at all! Hmm, I think I’m seeing some pancake-spiration coming from this! ๐Ÿ˜€

But for now, how about some PB&J?

Oh God, the hoes… make me LAUGH!!! Really, I think I have to postpone reading your posts to when I’m home (whooops, did I just opened up as a at-work-blog-reader??!!)….I am bursting all the time and everyone can be sure that it’s not about workstuff.
I want that recipe for that sandwich!!! Yumm! Fair enough on Friday, so I have a good lunch on Sat. Darn bad, Swizzies don’t sell English Muffins……

  2. Yum that soup looks good! Chobani Australia are hopefully releasing those flip packs here in the next few months.

I’m obsessed with yonanas banana ice cream so whenever I make it I love it ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Oh my THAT sammie! Have to buy english muffins and make more sammies – somehow I’ve been on a wrap rut recently.

  4. No more hoe talk?! How disappointing ;). Good thing your overabundance of delish-looking foods makes up for that. How can you make even a green smoothie look good to me as somebody who can’t wrap her head around that idea?

    Happy Wednesday, Heather!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Awww, come on now! You’ll experiment with baking with avocados, but you won’t give a little sweet spinach a try? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I PROMISE you can’t taste it…and now, I’m going to pester you until you try it! Lol ๐Ÿ˜›

  5. I’m glad you’re feeling better! Your eats (especially breakfast, lunch, and dessert) look fab! And don’t make me choose a favorite green fruit/veg, I’m too indecisive ๐Ÿ˜›

  6. I didn’t come for the food; I came for the hoes, and the run-on sentences because those are the best, along with your green smoothie and that Key Lime Chobani (How’d I do?). Seriously, I love Key Lime anything so I may need to try one of those hoes (I meant Cho’s, I swear ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).
Hang in there (not literally; that’s be dangerous).

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahahaha! You did perfectly m’dear! Run on sentence AND the fact that you made me almost choke to death on my water just now since I was laughing so hard! Oh how I wish we lived closer!

  7. ah guar gum for creaminess? this will be my next smoothie test! i love the thickness that xathum gum adds!

  8. Glad you are feeling better! That Peanut Butter and Jelly Smoothie turned out looking awesome. I’m impressed by your kitchen assistant. Whenever I try to direct one of my family members in the kitchen, I usually end up having to get up and do it myself. Not the best listeners ๐Ÿ˜‰

Favorite green fruit— kiwi… Is there any other? Lol. (Oh geez. So I typed “green fruit” into yahoo! and whatdoyaknow! There are other green fruits. Apples and Pears. Haha. So ya, I’d pick apple… Can’t believe I didn’t think of either of those ๐Ÿ˜€
    Favorite green vegetables— sweet peas!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahaha! Funny how our minds can draw blanks when put on the spot like that, no? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ve recently rediscovered my love of pears annnnd I can never get enough avocado!

The kitchen helpers do their best, but sadly, most of the time, they’re basically just acting as my go-fors…”get this, get that, I need a spoon, can you hand me that bowl?” Lol

  9. The smoothie sounds delish! I always add a handful of spinach in my smoothies….it’s such an easy way to get in some extra greens.

  10. Yay – glad you’re making progress! I usually finish your posts wishing you’d share your pancakes with me, but I today I think the painkillers sound more fun. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. Cannot go wrong with anything PB & J flavoured!
Favourite green vegetable would be green beans, favourite green fruit…ugh…limes, I guess? At least lime juice :-p

  12. Can it be Friday? That soup looks BOMB! I think I came across your blog just at the perfect time!

My favs: green veggie = kale or alfalfa sprouts. green fruit = avocado or granny smith apples or grapes or kiwis. I like fruit. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you Cheryl! So glad you “found” me! Sprouts are seriously underrated…and do me a favor and eat a few extra kiwis for me…I’m allergic to the green ones, but the yellow ones just aren’t as good! Boo!

  13. Glad your feeling better! Your meals look amazing!

  14. So glad you’re feeling better and things are “moving” along. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I LOVE PB&J smoothies! I may have to make one for me post-workout today. Mmmm…

Also, I want that strange but good concotion! It’s oozing green, just like I like it. My food, at least. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  15. i need to try that chobani flip flavor it looks so good! and so does your smoothie!

  16. The hoes thing is still cracking me up! Hilarious! I’m so curious about your #strangebutgood recipe to come on Friday. It looks good! Smoothie sounds delish! Might be making it this morning!

  17. I see lots of green!! Nice job!

That smoothie sounds amazing. PB & J Sandwiches are my favorite!!

  18. Hi Heather! Being out of the loop a bit with a wonky computer while in Florida, I didn’t know about your surgery. Hope your recovering is coming along. You’re amazing…able to be funny in the midst of pain! Everything looks delicious. Feel better soon!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thank you so much Fran! Hope you had a fun time in Florida…I hear the weather has been great down there! ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Chobani says:

Pancake inspa!? CHO-M-G, can’t wait to see what you come up with.

    Amy, @Chobani

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Thanks Amy! I’ll be sure to send you an email whenever it comes to FRUIT-ition! ๐Ÿ˜‰ …I can tell this is something that’s going to be happening VERY soon!

  20. Love your sense of humor! Thank you for sharing your day. Lunch looked super yummy!

  21. Christine says:

I just tried the Almond-coco-coconut flip. Its So freakin’ good. Love the key lime, too.
And I can’t wait for the soup recipe. Looks delicious.

  22. That smoothie sounds delicious! Just may be tomorrow’s breakfast.. Also, can’t wait to see what you come up with for Friday’s #strangebutgood.. ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. Can I just say everything looks GORGEOUS!? man. I wish my eats ever looked so pretty, haha. Your photography is top notch. Anyway, PB&J is the way to go! I haven’t had one in a while though and I do prefer almond butter but that’s almost the same thing anyway ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, Kammie! Thank you SO much! That means a lot to me coming from you because I think your photography is some of the best ever! I’m not even a huge cupcake fan, but your pictures always have me drooling! Lol

Hmm, I can’t believe I never knew you liked almond butter more. That seems so trivial, these are just things foodie friends should know about each other! Hahaha!

  24. That smoothie is going on my list of smoothies I must make asap! I really should write this list down, because it’s all in my head. Maybe I’ll write this one down…either way!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Well, if you remember, I’d LOVE to know what you think! Hope you’re having a great weekend…FULL of smoothie deliciousness! ๐Ÿ˜€

  25. Doctor Kracker? More like GOD of Krackers. [Even if I hate when things are purposefully misspelled. That man knows how to make a dang good crisp.]

I really have been craving English Muffins for some reason. Toasted. With honey. I’ve been obsessed with honey lately, which is not green. Nor is it a vegetable. Although drizzled on avocado somewhat makes it so. Maybe? No. OK, not at all. But the avocado is a vegetable. Nope. Wait. Fruit, right?

That was an example of how I think.

And now I want some more honey avocado cinnamon toast.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ha! Now I (emphasis…I hate how you can’t show that in typing since it’s already capitalized…hmmm, Iiiiiiiiii ?) want some honey avocado cinnamon toast! Mmmm! And you KRACK (haha!) me up with your crazy mind! Love it!

The pumpkin cheddar krackers? You’ve tried those right? So you know the level of omg-ness they have! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  26. knees are stupid. I’m going to attach my feet to the bottom of my femurs.

  27. Smoothie sounds awesome! Totally getting back in to smoothie loving at the moment…all about the xanthan to thicken those bad boys up!

  28. Love finding ways to use my beloved peanut flour! The smoothie recipe looks delicious. I have to go back and read some of your blog to catch up on this injury you’re talking about. So, I’m off to stalk–I mean, learn–about you! Fun to know we’ll be meeting at Blend! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, no worries, I’ve totally been stalking you as well! Can’t believe I just discovered your blog! Definitely eager to meet you in person in a couple of months! ๐Ÿ˜€

  29. I tried that flavor of Chobani too this week! So good!!!!

  30. Eep! So I’ve been away vacationing in Hawaii and didn’t get to wish you well on your surgery, but I’m definitely sending good vibes your way now! Glad to hear that things are healing and that you’re feeling better. Hope things continue along that way ๐Ÿ™‚

Green fruit… green fruit… why can I not think of any green fruits. Oooo!! Thank you Google Magic! Alright. My favorite green fruits are definitely green grapes and pears, anddd as for green veggies… baby spinach, mostly because it doesn’t cause me the grief that some of the other veggies give me.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh girl I hear ya…broccoli and me? As sad as it is (given my blog name), we’ve gone around a few more times than I care to admit! Let’s just say it it wasn’t for Bean-o there would be NO broccoli for Heather…ever! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for the vibes lady! Keep ’em coming! I hope to at LEAST be down to one crutch by the end of the week! *fingers crossed*

  31. Honestly, you just make me go Mmmmmmm!

Wish we had CHO here but…we don’t!

  32. Bella says:

Hmmm, never had any kind of flour in my smoothy before, interesting!

Your wrinkly english muffin looks yummy, lol,,, and that sounds so bad, haha.

My fav green veggie, is spinach, and fruit is kiwi.
So glad you are feeling better!!
    Hugs, Bella ๐Ÿ™‚
    <a href="

  33. I want that soup now! Nooch and cilantro are two excellent flavour additions – yummy. I made some butternut squash and sweet potato soup the other day, maybe I’ll top that with the cilantro and nooch too. They make everything taste amazing!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Amen! It’s funny to think that I actually used to hate both cilantro AND nutritional yeast a few years ago…WHAT was I thinking?!

  34. Celeste says:

Your soup looks to die for, I will have to give a try. I have been looking for that Chobani, but can’t fine that particular kind.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank you so much Celeste! Believe it or not, it was my FIRST soup all season! And I immediately fell in love with it! So rich and creamy!

I’m not sure if they Cho is available in stores just yet since the company was gracious enough to send me this sample (and a few others) for free. I know ever since my mom and I tried the coconut one earlier this week, we’ve both been scoping out all the stores in anticipation! Lol

  35. Yay for feeling better! And not only feeling better, but having a fabulous day of eats too!

My favourite green fruit is green apples… especially on a panini with turkey and brie cheese. ๐Ÿ˜‰ As for green vegetables, it’s gotta be kale. Massaged kale salads are seriously the best!

  36. I’ve been loving on some avocados and artichokes!
I’m so glad your appetite is back. I’m so glad you posted the smoothie recipe because Sarah gave me guar gum and xanthan gum and I had no idea what to do with them!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh girl, you are in for a treat for SURE! I swear I could never go back to a gum-less smoothie! Just make sure not to over do it…a little goes a LONNNNNG way, but it definitely takes it to a whole new level of creaminess! The xanthan gum is also good for thickening up cooked sauces/gravies and salad dressings too! ๐Ÿ™‚

  37. Emily says:

It’s no wonder you’re feeling better so quickly- you have the best food EVER to fuel your recovery. Seriously…YUM.
I can’t wait to get my hands on some of those new Chobani Flip flavors- they sound delicious!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thanks girlie! The strawberry and the vanilla were ok, but if you can get your hands on the coconut or this key lime, DO IT!!! Omg, best ever!

  38. Take care of yourself & get better soon! Love the eats & that P&J one! ๐Ÿ™‚ I so love graham crackers – I don’t bring them in the house anymore! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh me neither! They are soooo dangerous! Or perhaps…I’m the dangerous one WITH them? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks so much for the well wishes Jody! I hope you are having a marvelous weekend!

  39. I had a green smoothie this afternoon and am thinking that peanut four would have made it so much better! Luckily there are a few hours left in the day to make up for it so I will be sure to stuff my evening snack full of foods of the peanut variety. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m the same way with never putting the fate of my smoothies into the hands of anyone else. It has to be the perfect balance of ice to liquid to gums to achieve maximum spoonable-ness hehe.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Definitely! What’s sad is RIGHT after posting this, the next day I totally goofed up a smoothie…it went from way to thick to WAY to runny in seconds! I was SO bummed! If I hadn’t been so hungry I would have put it in the freezer, but instead I just ate/drank it as is while I sat there and pouted! Haha!

  40. I’m currently green with jealousy over that chobani ๐Ÿ˜‰ I love that english muffin idea! My boyfriend has been asking for a healthy version of an egg McMuffin… maybe I can make that happen ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh TOTALLY! I went on a little McMuffin kick a couple of years ago mixing it up with Canadian bacon or sausage…and sometimes I’d even through a little jam in there to sweeten it up! Love a good mix of sweet and savory!

  41. purelytwins says:

favorite green fruit – avocado and favorite green veggie brussel sprouts ๐Ÿ™‚

  42. I am so glad you are feeling better ๐Ÿ™‚ Yesterday, I ate at this vegan place in d=Dallas- everything was spectacular and i wish i could go for more!!! My fav green smoothie- has spinach, avocado, peanut butter and almond milk and sometimes banana.

  43. Glad you’re feeling better and that you have someone to make yummy recovery smoothies for you hehe :).
My fave green fruit has got to be…green grapes..chilled so theyre so refreshing..and veggie..BROCCOLI all the way haha!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ahhh, a fellow broccoli lover! Just make sure you give each floret a little “peck” before noshing away on it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  44. Favorite green anything? I CAN’T PICK!
Broccoli? Asparagus? Kale? Spinach? All of it.
I will tell you though- it doesn’t get much better than PB&J, period.

whilst cutting down my blog reading I missed a great opportunity to help your recovery. next time you’re “stuck” try this “Natural Vitality Calm”. It lets you unstress and gets me unstuck every time.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow, just Googled it…sounds like a miracle powder! I will definitely be looking into getting some soon! Thank you! xoxo

  47. Glad you’re feeling better, surgery is never fun! I’ve been wondering about those flip things, our grocery finally got all the new Cho stuff in. I’ve held back…so far!

That smoothie sounds awesome! I never want them when it’s cold out, but now that spring (seems) to be finally coming around, I’m starting to get a hankering.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

      Thank you so much, Alex!

The flips are great…though I kinda wish they had a bit more of the granola/crunch in them! So far the key lime has been my favorite…which is weird because I don’t even LIKE key lime pie! Haha!

I love my smoothies…even on a chilly day, but sometimes when I just can’t bear the thought of bundling up in three separate layers just to enjoy breakfast, I whip up one of these bad boys! It’s a smoothie that is ricotta based so you pop it in the microwave for a minute or so and BAM you’ve got yourself a soup + smoothie…SOUPIE! ๐Ÿ˜‰
