Currently: March

Happy Easter Sunday my little bunnies!

Instead of another edition of Pancake Queen Confessions, I thought, with it being the last day of March (?!), that I’d take the opportunity to sum up the last few weeks with another “Currently” post! Plus, I think we’ve had enough admissions over the last couple of days, no? πŸ˜‰

Current Book:

Intuitive Eating Like I mentioned on Friday’s (extremely long-winded) post, I’ve started reading the book Intuitive Eating to help me in my journey back to a healthy relationship with food. I really can’t even BEGIN to tell you how enlightening it’s been…and I’m only on the third chapter…DEFINITELY eager to read more!

Current Music:

Ever since seeing JT on SNL a couple of weeks ago, I have been absolutely HOOKED on this song. And seriously, the video just frickin’ ROCKS!

Current Guilty Pleasure:

Current Guilty Pleasure - Arctic Zero

Guilty as CHARGED! In the last four weeks, I am pleased ashamed to admit that I’ve gone through at LEAST FIVE cartons of Arctic Zero…yeah, my wallet has been shriveling away to nothing too!

Current Nail Color:

Current Nail Color

I traded in my purple for PINK! Essie’s “Jamaica Me Crazy” (dark) and “Mod Square” (light)…kinda feeling Healthy Diva-ish right about now! πŸ˜‰

Current Drink:

Current Drink - Peppermint Tea

Since half the month was spent on pain pills and the other half experimenting with intuitive eating (which I cannot stress enough how much trial and ERROR it is), my tummy has been a little wonky lately. I’ve been trying to ration the kombucha stash so, hot minty tea to the rescue! I think I had like four cups yesterday!

Current Food:

Current Food - Coleslaw

What started as an innocent Manager’s Special purchase, turned into a full-blown coleslaw obsession! I later bought a TWO POUND bag from Sam’s and proceeded to eat it all…in less than a WEEK! 😯

Current Favorite Show:

Downton Abbey…seriously, at first I was like, “Omg, I’m going to strangle these people!”…then, all of a sudden, I was like, “Must-watch-all-episodes”. I got a free one-week trial membership to Hulu Plus JUST so that I could watch season 2 since it wasn’t available on my crummy Netflix stream!

Now I just need to get my hands on season THREE! Oh, Allieeeeeeee! πŸ˜‰

Current Wish List:

Sunshine! We’ve had a few nice days this month…like literally, I can count them on one hand…but other than that it’s been gray skies, gloom, and doom rain.
Forget spring, is it SUMMER yet?!

Current Needs:

Anybody know a good hook up for a bionic leg? πŸ˜‰

Current Triumphs:

Not only making strides in physical therapy sessions with my knee (down to one crutch now…woo hoo!) but also taking a stand, ditching the calorie counting, and committing to becoming an intuitive eater!

Yeah, I think it’s safe to say this month has been HUGE for me!

Current Bane of Existence:

CrutchesAnd leaky ziptop bags full of ice, AND those stupid little clippy thingies that hold an ace wrap in place…I swear, if I stab myself ONE more time!! Grr!

Current Celebrity Crush:

I think I’d have to go with JT on this one…but only for his dance moves…not really digging the old man comb-over look he’s got going on right now! 😯

Current Indulgence:

Current Indulgence - Quest BarCookie Dough Quest Bar…350 degrees Fahrenheit…5-6 minutes…please, thank you, and OH MY GAWWWWWD!!

Current Blessing:

Friends (both “real life” and “blog life”) and family…this month has been FULL of ups and downs for me. Having to rely on people for so much in the days immediately following my surgery was VERY hard to get used to…and frankly, I was a bit of a bitch wasn’t the most pleasant person to be around. Also having the support of all of you after my “coming out” posts has absolutely meant the world to me!

*Hugs*

Current Slang:

Hmm, nope…still just cursing like a sailor…especially over those damn crutches! πŸ˜‰

Current Outfit:

Current Outfit - PJ's

I’m bringing Christmas sexy back! Oh, and let it be known…in the last 3 weeks, I have not worn pants without an elastic waistband and the only support the “girls” have seen has been from cami’s and sports bras! Hey, just trying to live up to my hippie name! πŸ˜‰

Current Excitement:

EASTER! I’m not much of a religious person, but I’m happy to be spending today with my family…especially since that includes my grandma’s homecookin’! πŸ˜€

Current Link:

Blog Lovin’ <- After going back and forth between this and Feedly, I think I’ve finally decided on my Google reader replacement! I’m a big visual person so I love how it highlights the blog posts with pictures!

Current Mood:

Hungry…and I’m pretty sure I hear a toasty Quest bar calling my name! πŸ˜‰

What is your current blessing?

  1. Bloglovin is the bomb! Couldn’t stand google reader so I have been bloglovin it up for over a year. I have some quest bars hiding somewhere I think I need to bake them! Have a lovely easter xo

  2. Your current “bane of existence” is bringing back such awful memories…I hope you get better soon! I freaking HATE ace wraps and crutches!

  3. Glad to see that you’re enjoying the book!

I’m with you on the friends and family blessing – I adore the family/friends I have ‘in real life’, but the last couple of months I’ve been connecting with blog friends more and absolutely loving it. The support you can get is fantastic.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

“The support you can get is fantastic.” <- Ain't that the TRUTH!! I've been completely BLOWN AWAY by the support and love I've felt over the last few days since my "coming out" posts! It has made me incredibly grateful to be a part of this community! But it also makes me wish that we all had our own little world to live in where we were all GEOGRAPHICALLY closer! Seriously...when are teleportation devices going to become a real thing?! πŸ˜‰

  4. The knee will get better – I promise! I have been thinking about you girlie and hope each day it gets better and better! Those Artic Zero creations look heavenly – I still have not tried them! Aren’t the Quest bars – AH MAZING! I must stick them in the oven now since your suggestions are always 100% awesome. My current blessing is by far my family – they are always my rock and my support! Happy Easter – enjoy granny’s cooking!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww, Tess! Thank you SO much! I’m definitely improving…I can feel that jig getting closer and closer every day! πŸ˜‰ Get your booty to the store and grab up a pint of this stuff…and while your at it, throw a baked quest bar on top! Yeah, you can thank me later! Lol

Hope you had a wonderful Easter love! xoxo

  5. Love the nail color . . . perfect for this time of year! Good thing Arctic Zero is tough to find around here. There’s only one store that carries it, and it’s totally out of my way by about 25 minutes. Otherwise, it would frequent my freezer more often. πŸ™‚ We are completely addicted to Downton Abbey, and all caught up on episodes. When does the next season begin?!? We’re itching to get back into it. Happy Sunday!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Honestly, I have no idea when the next season starts…and that’s probably a GOOD thing since I don’t have a cable subscription! I’ll be knocking on random neighbor’s doors trying to catch a peek! πŸ˜‰

And seriously, AZ used to be my “once in a while treat” since I had to drive an hour to Whole Foods to find it, but now? NOW it is sold in not one, not two, but THREE of the grocery stores here in town!! They’re gonna be the death of me…and my wallet! Haha!

  6. So seeing all these balked Quest bars made me go out and buy a cookie dough flavor. I forsee that being my non-religious Easter dinner tonight. πŸ˜‰

When do you get to ditch the crutches are hobble on your own? Those things are terrible!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Well, I’m down to only using the one when I had to walk long distances (like at the grocery store or something) but I go in for my follow up appointment tomorrow so we’ll see what the doc says then!

Seriously? Dude…you NEED this bar in your life!

  7. I love these “currently” posts! They are so fun!
My current read is also the intuitive eating book. I’m trying to take that approach because my eating was thrown way off ,from one extreme to the next. So I definitely need to find balance again and learn to create a healthy relationship with food! I’m glad to see you are giving it a try too! Baked quest bars! MY FAVORITE! I discovered that the other day and my goodness, I cannot get enough! It’s the perfect indulgence with some almond milk for dipping!
Happy Easter! Have fun with your family!

  8. Lauren says:

Happy Easter! I’m not religious either, but I love any holiday that means lots of family time. I’ll admit that I hated Suit & Tie when it first came out but I listened to the whole CD on repeat all last weekend and it’s definitely grown on me. I might actually really like it now…

  9. Happy Easter lady!

My blessings are Matt, having his family as support, my health and almost being done with school yay!

We all have bumps in our roads, it’s how we handle them that make us the people we are. I think it’s great you are finding the positives, because that is the only way to get through our struggles. You are an amazingly strong person and you can overcome anything you put your mind too. <3

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, Debbie!!! You’re gonna make me cry!! I love you soooooo much! And I am so SO proud of you! xoxo X infinity! πŸ˜€

  10. Hoping you get away from those crutches soon!

I love Arctic Zero but a couple ingredients do bloat me so it does keep from eating only a little at a time! πŸ™‚

    Happy Easter!

  11. BAHA I have so much to say omg! I am currently hungry too! I’m waiting to go for brunch with my boyfriend soon πŸ™‚ we went to church, planned on having brunch at home, but thought maybe we should treat ourselves since it’s Easter and all πŸ˜‰

So many triumphs this week girl! I AM SO PROUD OF YOU πŸ˜€ I am also very thankful to have you as a friend and I am so excited to make you a REAL friend not just say I know you through blogging because our friendship is already so much more meaningful and close than that <3

Loving your nails, girl! So nice for Easter πŸ™‚ I hope you're having a wonderful Easter by the way πŸ™‚ I need to paint my nails, but think I will wait until my Mom comes to visit me in a week πŸ™‚ We always book ourselves in at the spa! πŸ˜€

I am also crushing on JT right now, too πŸ˜‰ I mean how could you not!? πŸ˜€

    Love you girlfraaaan

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I treasure our friendship more and more each day. I love that blogging/intuitive eating brought us together! And I really can’t thank you enough for being there for me when I needed someone to confide in! BIIIIIIIIIIG HUGS!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  12. Emily says:

I’ve been testing out BlogLovin’ and Feedly too and I definitely think I’m going to stick with BlogLovin’. It’s much more similar to Google Reader, in my opinion, and I’m not a huge fan of the Feedly format. Can we all just petition for GR to stay though?!

And I’ve been OBSESSED with cabbage and coleslaw lately! All of your creations look delicious.

  13. lindsay says:

i’m currently looking for a bionic leg for you, and maybe some more cookie dough quest bars to go along with it? Maybe the easter bunny will bring them… hmm..
Hang in there. Crutches will be gone soon!

  14. Hope you’re having an awesome Easter, lady! It’s been a while, but if my memory serves me then grandma’s cooking is pretty freakin’ amazing. This year it’s only me and my parents, and although mom’s dinners are nowhere near grandma’s, they’re still not half bad πŸ˜‰ I kid, I kid. I honestly feel blessed to be able to spend the holidays with my family. And I couldn’t agree with you more about the amazingness of blog friends… Even though the community can drive me nuts sometimes, the good definitely outweighs the bad.

  15. I love that nail colour! The mod square is definitely cute!

I swear by peppermint tea, it’s a lifesaver. Sometimes I find it even works better than my nausea tablets as it actually soothes the stomach too.

My current blessing is having Jesse home! It’s still sinking in and there are moments where I stop myself and I’m like “wowww.. he really isn’t leaving… ever again” – it feels SO good after 5 years living so far apart!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

That’s AMAZING sweetheart! I am SO happy for the two of you…together at last!!! Like a little fairy tale! πŸ˜€

  16. I hope those crutches are gone soon! You have had quite a month girl. I couldn’t stop watching Downton Abbey either. It is SO GOOD. You can watch it streaming for free on PBS.com. πŸ™‚

  17. I love your currently posts, and I’m glad you’ve been free-balling, breasting it, whatever you want to call it. The nail color is adorable, and there is no shame in putting down Artic Zero; you’re entitled to a little non-dairy ice cream love.
My current blessing is my Hubby’s health. Two years ago, it was a completely different story, so I’m thrilled and blessed to have him healthy. Of course selfishly, this means more mad monkey love for me. It always comes back to me doesn’t it.
    Happy Easter Love.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Hey, doesn’t everything in life really come down to the amount of mad monkey love in our lives? One thing that should NEVER go unappreciated! πŸ˜€ Haha!

  18. I’m not religious either, but I love Easter! It’s so nice to see my extended family again for the first time since Christmas. Also Cadbury mini eggs. Enough said. πŸ˜€

My current blessings are the gorgeous weather we had this weekend, getting to spend time with my family, and almost being done with the semester!

  19. Hope your knee continues to heal!

I wish we could get quest bars here in Australia as that snack sounds delicious!

  20. Carly says:

My current blessing=spring break! It’s almost over now of course but the rest and relaxation was needed(: I keep seeing all these expensive habits roam the blog world, artic zero, quest bars, kabocha squash…lets just say I oogled over the carton of coffee artic zero in whole foods today, but my wallet said NO! haha, I really want to start making real money so I can get myself some of these beloved quest bars and then bake them up…mmm…melty chocolate.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, CARLY!!! I’ve missed you! I hope you are doing well! Glad to hear you got a good bit of R&R in over spring break! How have you been when not pining over luxurious treats in the freezer section?? πŸ˜‰

      • Carly says:

        haha good! I only have four weeks left of class and then I have finals and then I’m going to india for a month(: I’m pretty excited, and I love indian food so thats always a plus….How about you? I read all about your knee surgery of course and I hope you are feeling better! I also love your new intuitive eating goal, that book looks super interesting, and I’m sure it’s helpful to get the facts. Good luck and I’ll be looking for some delicious creations to come(;

        • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh wow!! India?! That’s awesome! Are you studying abroad? I always wished that I had done something like that when I was in school…ahh, ONE of these day’s I’ll have a reason to get a passport! πŸ˜‰

I’m doing pretty good! The knee is getting better and better each day…I’ve definitely come a LONG way in the last couple of weeks as far as recovery! Still working on getting back my full range of motion, but I figure in another week or two I’ll be ready to at least attempt a jig! Lol

The IE book is amazing! I’m learning so so much about the IE concept and about myself! Thank you so much for the support! πŸ˜€

  21. Happy Easter, Heather!
Let me say HOW happy it makes me to hear about your many triumphs – yay! Sooner than not that other crutch will be history, too!
Not meaning to steal your answer but I fully agree on my family and friends being my blessing in life – not just currently but in general. I’m currently spending the Easter weekend at my parents’ making sure to get more than just one extra dad hug :).
Oh, before I forget: These nail colours looks fantastic! I may or may not have to start painting my nails again, too …

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ahhhhhh! YAY!!! this made me smile so big, girl…SO BIG!! Forget the Easter bunny, bring on the Dad hugs!!! πŸ˜€

  22. Arctic Zero needs to sponsor you! lol =) Between the two of us I think we have sailor speak on lockdown. love you betch!

  23. Woohoo…PROGRESS!!! Love hearing that! I too am trying to take it easy with my kaboacha stash. I bought 12 a little over a week ago and I still have 4. That’s good, right? πŸ˜‰

I hope you had a great day with family my friend! Keep that chin up!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, I seriously just busted out laughing…8 squash in a WEEK?! That’s it…we’re comparing palms at Blend to see which of us is the orange-est! Lol

  24. I’m reading that book too!!! I started and stopped, and started again, haha. Arctic Zero is SO good, I just wish it wasn’t killing my wallet, too!

  25. I’m so interested to hear more about Intuitive eating! I’m obsessed with JT right now! I’ve been listening to the Justin Timberlake station on Pandora and love it! Mix of new and old goodies!

  26. Jessie says:

What a fun post! We are getting more than enough sunshine over here (think 90+ degrees), so if you’d like.. I can send some your way??!! πŸ™‚

  27. I love when people put songs in their blog post so I have something new to listen to while I’m reading πŸ˜€

And is it just me, or does hot pink nail polish automatically make you happier?? Christmas clothes, as well. I have Santa socks and wintery pajama bottoms that I wear all year round πŸ˜‰

  29. Those Quest Cookie Dough bars are amazing! And, um, I may have put away THREE CARTONS of Arctic Zero in the last WEEK. Ouch, my wallet hurts (sugar overload? Haha)

  30. Humm…I should probably just suck it up and read the book, right? Baby steps. We’ll see πŸ˜‰
I love that cabbage slaw stuff too! I buy it two bags at a time (praying for an awesome managers special deal) and cook it into almost every friggin dinner I make!
God bless the Quest bar and that fab cookie dough flavor!! Amen. That flavor had me 100% jumping into their arms when they asked me to be an affiliate (so, cough cough, if you ever order them online, you better be going to my blog FIRST to click on my sidebar link and then ordering, to support your girl! πŸ˜‰ ).
Still have only tried AZ once a bajillion years ago and then I freaked when that news piece came out about them and their calorie count fraud, and I never ate them again, but all your pictures lately have me ready to cave!! Darn you and your delish pictures!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Hey, I’m all about some pretty food! πŸ˜€ You do know they proved their calorie counts to be correct, right? Here’s a link to the arctical in case you’re interested: http://www.arcticzero.com/labresults.php

And YES!! You totally need to read this book! It will help you sort through SO much I promise! I broke down and got mine at a bookstore because I didn’t want to wait on shipping, but I think you can get it for as little as like 10 bucks on Amazon right now! πŸ˜€

  32. I really need to try Arctic Zero again, but I swear the last time I had it was such an epic night of stomach pain that I’m just…scared.

If I didn’t already have a stockpile of assorted bars and whatnots in my pantry, I’d probably have to finally give in to the Quest bar curiosity. For now, what I don’t know can’t….help me?

I can’t wait until MMAZ cabbage week. To be honest, your cabbage slaw obsession might become the inspiration for week #2. πŸ™‚

And I am blessed to have YOU as a support. I hope you know that even if I’m behind on blog reading, I am just a text away. Even at 3AM.
