Movie Monday

I swear I had no intention of skipping Arman’s link-up yesterday and posting today JUST so I could make better use of alliteration…I swear!

Popcorn

Actually, his latest Spill It Sunday theme just happens to be perfect since I’ve been wanting to tell you guys about some flicks I’ve seen recently! With the temperatures around here having been in the 30’s lately (yee-ouch!), the man-friend and I have taken to hibernating our weekends away and honestly, the lack of activity doesn’t bother me a bit…as long as I have a.) a seat close to the restroom and b.) the man-friend’s popcorn!

Confession: Whenever the man-friend asks me if I want popcorn at the movie theater, I always say no and then I almost always end up eating nearly half of it! πŸ˜‰

The Hobbit

This past weekend, we met up with some friends and saw the Hobbit!

I’ll be honest, I didn’t LOVE it. You could definitely tell that it was a “filler” type movie, just biding time until the next one, but it was cool to drool over see Orlando Bloom rock out some pretty sweet fight scenes!

Catching Fire

Last weekend, we saw Catching Fire!

And coming from someone who had really REALLY low expectations for this one (I didn’t like Hunger Games), believe me when I say that you NEED to see this movie! Maybe it’s because I’m further removed from the books now, but I thought they did a great job depicting the arena and the overall mood in this one!

To be sure that we don’t offer up too many vital organs for the price of movie tickets, we’ve also been running through quite a bit of Netflix…here are some of the most recent ones we’ve watched:

Movie 43…OMG! Seriously, just oh…my…GOD! I’ll admit, I thought the first part was hilarious, but the last half went a little too far at times.

Cloud Atlas…I kept having to get the man-friend to pause it and explain what was going on, but for some reason, I think I kinda liked it?

Super…Dwight from the Office turns super hero and Juno is his sidekick! It had some funny parts, it had some weird parts, and it had some SUPERΒ gross parts.

The East…Another movie with Juno! It’s about an anarchist group that targets shady corporations and I swear it’s enough to convert you to their side. We both thought it was GREAT! Oh and hello, you get to see Alexander Skarsgard’s booty! πŸ˜€

And now for Arman’s link-up questions…and of course, the obligatory selfie:

Movie Theater Selfie

Confession: Every time I go to the movies, I take a selfie in the full-length mirror in the restroom.
Confession: My scarf turned into a wrap/skirt upon arrival at the movie theater…once the man-friend kindly informed me that my brand new leggings were in fact SEE THROUGH! 😯
Confession: I swear I realize that it’s not Sunday even though I keep littering this post with my broccoli-kissing sins!

What is your favorite genre of film?
I’m actually not too picky when it comes to genre, I’ll watch just about anything (even if it takes a little convincing from the man-friend to get me to watch action films), but my first choice is ALWAYS comedy. And sorry Arman, but I LOVE parodies!

What is your favorite ever movie?
I’ve always said that 10 Things I Hate About You is my favorite movie, but honestly, I’d have to say that if you were to gauge my favorite film based on the number of times I quote it, it would be Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Tis But a Flesh Wound - Monty Python & the Holy Grail

What movie do you think never should have been made?
Pretty much anything with Will Ferrell in it after The Producers with the exception of Stranger Than Fiction (most specifically, Talladega Nights)!

What movie should be considered a legal sleeping pill?
Fantasia…seriously, better than Benedryl! I have NEVER been able to stay awake during the whole thing!

If you made a movie, what would it be about?
Me…duh! πŸ˜‰

The Big Man's World

What is your favorite movie genre?

What movie do you think should never have been made?

Personally, I think you’re about to start a new fashion trend w/ the scarf around your waist =)

  2. I love 10 Things I Hate About You too. And Monty Python and the Holy Grail!

When in Rome should never have been made – I’m still mad I wasted 2 hours of my life watching it. πŸ˜›

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Aww, I actually thought it was kinda cute…but it could’ve just been because I was lusting over Josh Duhamel the whole time! πŸ˜‰

  3. Ok this sounds so nerdy, but I LOVE documentaries. Even if something is just “based on a true story” I love it. It makes me feel like I’m actually learning something, which is kind of cool! Second to that, anything that makes me laugh πŸ™‚

  4. HOW did I forget about Monty Python and the Holy Grail!?!?! Oh my gosh literally the best film ever created. I laugh my ass off every time, but none of my friends think it’s as funny as I do. Have you ever seen the musical Spamalot? It’s based off that movie and it’s great.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah, I think it takes a special appreciation for sarcasm…I’ve tried to get a few of my friends to watch it with me, but a lot of them don’t really get it. And I’ve never heard of Spamalot but omg, now I’ve got to see it!

  5. I’m going to go ahead and confess… I don’t like movies. I’ve never seen a movie you mentioned in this post except Monty. I tried to see Fantasia, but yeah… sleeper.

Since there are exceptions to every rule, I will admit I liked Argo, Charlie Wilson’s War, and Gone With the Wind. Also, I love movie popcorn and red wine. If you give me those, will sit through anything.

  6. I just saw Catching Fire yesterday & LOVED it!! My husband thought it was great too! I had been curious about the Hobbit, but now I’m not so sure… I may pass on that one. πŸ˜‰
I don’t really have a favorite movie genre… just anything that can hold my attention & if it has a hot actor and/or a love story in it, all the better. πŸ˜‰

  7. see-through leggings…THE WORST. Also now I have movie theater popcorn on the mind. One time I bought a ticket to a movie just so I could get in and eat the popcorn.

I almost always fall asleep during movies (yes including theaters) so it’s not worth it for me to go very often but the popcorn always sucks me in!

  8. Marina says:

I really love comedies! And melodramas. And fighters. Well, I love ALL genres! Never you know, in what genre there will be a new good movie πŸ˜‰ I like to watch comedies or horror films with my friends, but one I will choose classics in 90% of cases. Breakfast at Tiffany – an ideal thing for all times!

  9. Ok I’ve never seen the ones you Netflixed. But I would argue 10 Things as one of the BEST too. But Forrest Gump is my fav. And then we can’t forget When Harry Met Sally (I’m SO Sally) and You’ve Got Mail. Hummm I tend to like the same actors in most of my movies πŸ˜‰

  10. Chrystal M. says:

I Netflixed last night at got stuck on that Alaska: The Last Frontier. It was actually pretty good. It amazes me how people can live off the land like that. I watched a few episodes. I watched Skulls and Timeline for my Paul Walker tribute (before loading up DVDs).

Now see, I actually like Fantasia and have a million original collector Disney movies and that is one of them. I can see where people don’t care for it though when you compare it to some of the other Disney movies.

I can’t wait to see the Hobbit. I started reading those books when I was about 9, so its a big deal for me to be able to see such a huge movie production in my lifetime.

Movie that should not be made…. I do like Will Ferrell – some of them. Step Brothers makes me laugh so hard I pee (So much space of activities!) but Anchorman/ Ron Burgundy make me want to vomit.

Best movie… It’s so hard for me to pick just one, but I do have a few that I never tire of. Top 5: 300, Gladiator, Boondock Saints, Gangs of New York, and, Beowulf.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, I LOVE 300! And Sin City! I really like those over-the-top comic book-style movies! And ok, I’ll give ya that one liner from Step Brothers…that was pretty funny! But I called it quits in the balls meets drum set scene!

  11. FANTASIA = PUNISHMENT.

Seriously. We had family friends who we visited often as kids and that was their only VHS available…it was actual torture having to sit through it all.

We need to make this Heather movie a reality. G rated of course.

  12. Tara says:

I just love you even more!! I too love Monty Python and the holy grail (and life of Brian and….) I also agree with Will Ferrell movies except Stanger than fiction! In fact stranger than fiction is one of my favourite movies! I also love Ten things I hate about you! (I Love Heath Ledger- I love him more than words can express). I am also pretty easy when it comes to genre- as long as it is a good film πŸ™‚ except we differ on Fantasia- although I have not watched it in a good 17 years- I loved it with a fierce passion between the ages of 2-5! πŸ™‚ Love your improvised skirt- made it work girl πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, LOVE it! And yeah, it’s been a LONG while since I’ve attempted a Fantasia watching…I might just have to give it another shot since I’m “all grown up now” and everything! πŸ˜‰

  13. Kat says:

    OH. MY. GOD.
There it is. We are IN FACT lost sisters. My favorite movie will probably always be 10 Things I Hate About You because Heath is FLAWLESS in that movie but Monty Python in Search of the Holy Grail is the movie I grew up on! Every trip to my daddy’s we would watch it together.
    “It’s just a bunny!”
“That bunny’s got big fangs! Big fans that go like this!! “(insert me holding up my fingers as bunny fangs)
    Such a classic!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Oh yes, the bunny scene! How could I have forgotten that one! And omg, I agree with you 100%…Heath at his BEST! And I’ve been in love with Julia Stiles ever since!

  14. A girl after my own heart — Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail is definitely on my list of favourite movies. There’s just no situation in life where you can’t pull a quite from that movie. Love it. But that sucks about The Hobbit πŸ™ I’m still going to see it because I love the book, but I had higher hopes after being disappointed in the first one.

  15. Dr Dolittle 2 should never have been made, along with Nutty Professor and all sequels…yuck!!

Leggings as pants? Just say no! πŸ˜‰

I love 10 things I hate about you too. My favourite movie of all time is definitely Father of the Bride, love Steve Martin.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Yeah, Dr. Dolittle was pretty bad, but Nutty Professor has so many great one-liners! “You might walk over here, but you’ll LIMP back!” haha!

And can you believe I’ve never seen Father of the Bride? I think it’s on Netflix…I should get on that!

  16. So I love your comment about Will Ferrell – I could not agree more. I basically detest every movie he puts out, but I did really, really love Stranger Than Fiction.
Annnd now I need to disagree with you on the Fantasia thing. I adore that movie so much! The Fantasia 2000 or whatever was bad, but the original? Amazing.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah, Stranger Than Fiction is definitely high up on my list of movie favorites! And it my defense, I haven’t attempted to watch Fantasia in a good 15 years or so…perhaps it’s worth another shot now that I’m all “grown up”! πŸ˜‰

  17. Love that Monty Python flick! πŸ™‚ I want to see The Hobbit, but I’ll be sure not to get my hopes too high. My hopes wouldn’t have been high for Catching Fire either since I didn’t like the first one, but perhaps I’ll have to at least rent it.

  18. Awww lol that sucks about the leggings!!!! Classic -.- But you are adorable anyway and I need to see the Hobbbbbit!

  19. Sarah Pie says:

I’m an action girl at heart, though a good mind thriller is always fun πŸ˜‰ I had worries that the Hobbit was going to be, like you said, filler but at least it sounds enjoyable!

  20. I can’t even believe you tried to watch Fantasia. You’re a better person than me.
I’m with you in the Will Ferrell epidemic. I think he’s good when he’s not the star of the show. Otherwise, his brand of humor really just annoys me.
That’s a real bummer about The Hobbit. I was looking forward to seeing it, especially since I’m a huge an of the books.
