Saved by the Spoons!

Happy OVER the hump day!

Ok, ever have one of those days where you have so much to say but none of the words seem to find their way to your lips keyboard? Well, I’ve been sitting here for over an hour now and have typed, deleted, and REtyped an intro and have yet to come up with anything remotely entertaining…

Thinking-Out-Loud

But thanks to Amanda and her link up-O-randomness, I don’t have to sit here and try to think of a way to string all my thoughts together…I’ll just throw them out there and you can catch ’em! Ok, are you ready….annnnnnd BREAK!

Popped Quinoa & Cheesy Eggs

1. An egg shell that is! 😉 Last Thursday, I decided it had been FAR too long since I’d made Spabetti’s Popped Quinoa and Cheesy Eggs…so I made sure to remedy that with some of the quinoa I had leftover from my Detox Quinoa Salad. Just as good if not BETTER than I remember and SO easy!

2. I’ve found one thing that kinda sorta doesn’t suck about winter…I forgot how red my hair gets! I’m always closer to a strawberry blonde in the summer, but in the winter it gets dark. I guess you could call me a seasonal ginger! 😉

Gym 2

3. Last Friday, I ventured out to check out the YMCA by the man-friend’s house. Nearly two HOURS later, I left with one huge grin on my face and two arms made of jello after playing with what I am now referring to as the rope pulley downy thing. Anyone ever tried it before? It’s awesome!

4. The night before, the man-friend and I added number 936 to our winter movie list with The Lone Ranger. I know the critics ripped this apart when it first came out, but honestly, I have no idea why…we both really liked it! And Johnny Depp was amazing as always!

Spaghetti with Quest Pasta

5. While watching our flick, we kept warm with a big bowl of “spaghetti”! The man-friend got curious a few months back and decided to order some Quest pasta when stocking up on bars and we finally got around to try it…I’ll be honest, it took a little getting used to, but not bad! Just make sure you rinse them THOROUGHLY before eating since they smell like straight up bad fish right out of the package! 😕

Genghis Grill

6. Smelly fish and all, Thursday night’s dinner was a HELL of a lot better than Friday’s. We went to Genghis Grill for the first time and it was SUCH a disappointment. It took forever to get through the line and then (probably because I opted to go sans starch), my bowl was drowning in oil…which later made me sick for the rest of the night.

7. But luckily before heading home, we popped in a Marshall’s and found…

Peanut Butter Chimes

PEANUT BUTTER CHIMES!!!!!

Seriously, It’s been TOO long! Insert heart-eyed emoji here -> <-

8. Ok, honestly, I had no intention of this being a Thinking About My Weekend post, but um yeah…there ya go.

Allegiant

9. I finally finished the Divergent series!! I say “finally” because after a weekend of restoring/crying over deleted pictures, I only had a chance to read a couple of paragraphs. Luckily, we had a bit of a slow night at work on Monday…and I read the whole SECOND HALF! Seriously people, if you haven’t already, you’ve GOT to read this! And then email me so we can talk about it! 😉

Tiger Peek-a-Boo

10. And just to end on a good note even number, I’ll leave you with this little attempted ninja move of Tiger’s last week…he kept trying to shove his head between my arm and the book! Lol

What’s on YOUR mind today?

Have you read any of the Divergent series?

  1. Expect a Divergent-themed email coming your way soon. I’m 100% serious. I need to talk to someone about this.

You are always gorgeous, whether you’re ginger or blondish.

  2. I started Insurgent just before exams – now I’m halfway through and DYING to finish it! 2 more weeks…I can last that long, can’t I?!

  3. Ahhh Allegiant!!! so.not.happy….is all i can really say about it. And I love how you’re a seasonal ginger! 😉

And I don’t know if I could get on the Quest pasta train…it looks a little suspect to me.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yeah, I wasn’t exactly happy with it either, but afterwards, it kinda made sense…it was very…poetic!

The noodles weren’t bad, but honestly, I can’t see myself saying, “Hey man-friend, I’m really craving a big batch of fish noodles!!” Haha!

  4. I LOVE your dark ginger color! Pretty lady!
Oh, and I know that smell of these noodles – I ususally have Shirataki and they are the same – NOT appetizing!!
Tiger is the CUTEST. Haha, I LOVE how he tries to get attention and snuggles!

  5. I am now inspired to try eggs over quinoa. I like it on toast, so why not those nutty little grain seeds of goodness. I’ve also never had ginger chews. Maybe I’ll pick some up next time I see them.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

You described it perfectly, Ang! And toasting the quinoa in the pan makes it taste EVEN nuttier! So good!

Ahhh, the Chimes! Mango and peanut butter are the best, but watch out, they’re insanely addictive! You’ve been warned! 😉

  6. Is it bad if I want to see the move before reading the books? I always get disappointed if I do it the other way around!

Confession: I’ve seen the rope/pulley things at my gym (all over!!) and I’m scared to try them. Mostly because people I work with are roaming around and I’d be super embarrassed if I used it wrong! I should probably just ask someone to show me how to use them haha.

PS I instantly thought of Calee when I saw “chimes.”

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I used to think of Calee when I saw them at the store all the time…I can’t believe it took a year of seeing them around before I actually got around to trying them! Haha!

Definitely ask about the pulley…it’s awesome! I was feeling it in my back and arms the next TWO days!

I know what you mean about movies always being a bit of a let down after reading the book…I just can’t do it the other way around because my attention span is too short when I’m reading! ha!

  7. It’s been something like 2 months, and I’m still not ready to think about Allegiant again. Let’s just say that I adored the series and the third book came very close to killing it for me… before I wiped my memory clean of it. Mm. Not.a.fan. Right now I’m reading The Fault In Our Stars, and I’m completely smitten by it. ALthough I hear it’s supposed to be a real tear-jerker, so I’m getting the Kleenex ready.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww! I don’t want to chance ruining it for anyone who might see my comment without reading the series, but I think the way it ended was…appropriate. I mean, yeah, I was a little miffed at first, but when you think about it, poetically, it just made sense…ya know? Wow, I just read the plot summary for the book you’re reading now…that one is definitely going on my to-read list (which is getting scarily long! Haha!)

  8. When we thaw out and you come visit me, I’m taking you to Glute Camp at my gym. Every had your booty feel like jell-o? LOL!

I need to try Kristina’s quinoa bowl. It’s perfect comfort food!!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Jello booty? Now THAT’S a new one! But you have to agree to help me the bathroom the next day! And if I fall off and break my butt, it’s all on YOU! 😛

  9. Oh my goodness, I’m a HUGE Divergent fan! I just finished Allegiant a few weeks ago. Have to say, though, I was a bit disappointed. The first book was just SO amazing, the second ended with a HUGE cliffhanger, and the third was just…boring, to be completely honest. I felt like nothing super exciting really happened. All the scenes that were ‘supposed’ to be intense and/or revelatory just seemed sort of ‘meh.’ Ah well, I’m still happier with how this series ended than I am with the Delirium series (have you read that one? It’s written by Lauren Oliver–again, the first two books are good, the third kind of sucks). And the ending made me feel ALL the feels!

Have a wonderful Thursday, love! xoxo

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hmm, no, I hadn’t heard of that series. I’m gonna have to start a list now! I’m already thinking about starting Mortal Instruments and someone recommended Vampire Academy as well…AND I’ve already started a series that my mom loaned me! I’m definitely getting back to my bookworm days! Lol!

I thought the first half of Allegiant was sort of slow, but the second half (and especially the last few chapters) had me ripping through the pages…and of course, blinking through tears so I could actually read the words! Ha!

  10. Cat says:

Haha I can relate to the seasonal ginge thing! Free highlights when summer rolls round, always fun 😉

  11. Lyric says:

Ok that photo of your cat trying to squeeze through your arm is too funny. I have not read the divergent series but you are making it sound really good and I may have to try it out..

  12. Now I’m craving eggs… And you’re always talking about those Ginger Chews. Considering I need to make a trip to World Market, I think I’ll have to get some 🙂

  13. Thanks to your recomendation last week, I tried the popped quinoa and eggs last night and it was SO good. I am making it again tonight with the quinoa that I have left over. I am already looking forward to it :).

  14. We just watched The Lone Ranger recently too. I don’t understand why everyone bashed it, although I thought it was a tad boring to be honest. A few days later we watched Cowboys and Aliens which is also a western sort of and it was just much more interesting! Although I liked both of the main actors in The Lone Ranger so I would definitely watch it again. Now that I know the actually meaning of Tonto I think the whole thing is much more hilarious.

Allegiant! I’m so glad that you liked the series too. The movie trailers look so amazing and I can’t wait!

Now I need to reread the Vampire Academy series because the first of those is coming out on Feb. 14. I have to say that the trailers so far for that one don’t have me too hopeful but I’m keeping an open mind because it is one of my favorites!

I tried some of those faux noodles before from another brand and just couldn’t get on that train. I’d prefer spaghetti squash or even rice noodles over those but that’s just me. I’ve read that if you make them with a creamy sauce instead of something tomato-y they taste even better though?!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Really, as far as the noodles go, I could take them or leave them, but it might be worth it to see how a creamy sauce does!

I’d not heard of the Vampire Academy series! I was just talking to my aunt today about starting Mortal Instruments…I’ve already seen that movie, but I figured since I liked it so much that the book is even better! Now I may have to check out the VA too since you said it was a favorite! 🙂

  15. Kat says:

My hair is the same way 🙂 The sun in the warmer months lightens it up, but then it the winter my hair gets darker. Or, according to my mom, my hair gets darker in the winter because I’m on break from soccer season so I store up all my pent up anger and frustration in my hair until I can let it out on the soccer field 😉

  16. My dog does that when I read. Well, I usually have one small mop of a dog trying to wedge herself under my thigh, and one big giant dog trying to wedge her head between my arm and my book. No wonder I can’t get a darn book read!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, you poor thing! It’s almost like having kids, isn’t it? Lol! Do they follow you to the bathroom too? Tiger does that ALL the time!

  17. Ahhhg I need to start that book already, I have it sitting next to me bed. And ohh those eggs. Mmmm.

  18. Purelytwins says:

    love your hair!! so pretty!

  19. That picture of Tiger reminds me of Bentley when I’m trying to read or study. I always think it’s his way of telling me rubbing his head would be much better than whatever else I was reading. Sorry to hear about your disappointing meal out. It’s always such a bummer to be excited to go out and then be let down.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Those animals DO know so much better, don’t they? 😉

Definitely a bummer…and we’ve been having a lot of them lately. I think we need to just start making more meals at home! Now I just need to go to the grocery store and FULLY stock his kitchen with everything I might need! Lol

  20. Kristina says:

    ahh, the popped quinoa!

    pretty red haired girl XXO

  21. Your pasta bowl looks good and I’m curious about Quest noodles. I didn’t know they started making noodles. I’ll have to order some, though I’ve tried other noodle alternatives and they definitely took a bit to get used to. Oh, and I love popped quinoa! I recently tried it by mistake. I was craving fried rice, but I wanted to make something a little healthier, so I used quinoa instead and it turned out SO good! I love the idea of putting cheesy eggs on top; I’ll have to try that next time!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh what a happy mistake! I love how toasting it up brings out the nutty flavor! And the cheese…oh it just puts it over the TOP! The noodles are very similar to other brands that I’ve tried in the past…but that weird fishy smell in the beginning was new to me. Just glad it washed away eventually, but it took about three different rinses!

  22. Julia says:

Your ninja cat is a crack up!! adorable! I have a soft spot for orange and white cats. SO cute! Those ginger chews are absolutely addicting and I still need to watch The Lone Ranger. Thursdays are awesome. Day before Friday! giggity giggity, heart eye emoji 😉

  23. I haven’t seen The Lone Ranger yet, but back in high school my friends and I had a series of 3 Johnny Depp movie marathons, so I’ve seen pretty much all of his movies from the start of his career up til 2007 haha! 😛

I haven’t read that series yet, but I’m thinking I should based on all the hype about them. I just need to finish the 5th Game of Thrones book first!

  24. I JUST transfered the series to my Kindle (lol, I had thought I had done it already, went to the gym to read on the cardio machine and nothing was on there- except the dictionary…yeah, not the most entertaining). Can’t wait to dig in now!

Those noodles are popping up EVERYWHERE here- well not the Quest ones but copies of it. I’ve been skeptical to give them a go but I like fish so I’m sure the smell would make it more appealing!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh, I like fish too, but I swear, this about knocked me out! Haha! It’s weird, I’ve tried other brands and don’t remember them having that smell!

Hmm, dictionary reading…hmm, not quite the cardio motivator you’d hoped, huh? 😉 You know, I’ve thought about getting an e-reader of some sort…it definitely would make reading at the gym easier, but I’m so old fashioned…I don’t know!

  25. You ate something like that smelled like straight up bad fish and thought too much oil made you sick all night? You seem to have the worst luck at restaurants, although I would have gone for the bowl of veggies too.

I love Tiger, and I love that he tries to ninja your attention.

I have done the rope pulley down thingy at the gym before. I’m a fan, although I haven’t hit the weight room machines in months. I’ve been doing sculpting classes that leave my arms and legs feeling like jello. I could barely raise my arms to wash my hair after the one class. Eek.

Those cheesy quinoa popped eggs….I’m salivating. I need that in my life.
