WIAW: Surprisingly Intuitive

Hey there, my little broccoli bites!

Sounds like you all had a very BLISSFUL weekend! It really IS great to relive all those happy moments and have them propel us through the week, isn’t it? I mean, really, it’s WEDNESDAY? Already? 😯

Guess it’s good I came prepared then, huh? Yep, after coming “back” from hiatus and then going MIA for nearly a month, it’s time I partied with Jenn and her fabulous foodies again! So without further ado, allow me to present…

What I Ate Monday Wednesday!

After a solid EIGHT hours of Benedryl-induced slumber, I was awakened by a stomach in desperate need of filling. I shuffled my way to the kitchen and within minutes, my hunger was quelled!

Cereal + Peanut Flour + Blueberries

Kashi Honey Sunshine topped with some peanut flour and thawed frozen blueberries…almond milk added post pic.

Coffee

Afterwards, I started a pot of coffee and jumped in the shower…yep, I’m still loving the coconut-pumpkin combo!

An hour later, travel mug in tow, I was out the door to run errands before my shift. I completely forgot about actually DRINKING the coffee and had to heat it up once I got to the hospital, but that worked out better since I got crazy busy and didn’t get to sit down again for nearly four hours! The caffeine perked me up and the liter of water I chugged afterwards helped tide me over until I could FINALLY get some food around 11pm.

Luckily, cold leftovers from this weekend require ZERO effort!

Pizza Leftovers

A slice of Veggie-Lovers with homemade marinara for dipping…and another liter of water over the next hour or so.

Tea

Around 3am, when it get freakishly cold in my department (?!), I made some tea (TJ Maxx find) to warm my hands…and hover my face over! 😉 I typically have a snack around this time too, but I got busy doing something and forgot. I didn’t end up feeling hungry until close to 4:30am so while enjoying a little downtime, catching up with a few favorite bloggers, I nibbled on…

Chunky Monkey Granola Bar & Greek Yogurt

A Chunky Monkey Granola Bar dipped in about half a container of Greek yogurt.

Now, I don’t know if it was the tea or the chocolate, but for some reason, I got a burst of energy toward the end of my shift. I cleaned AND restocked the department and when it was time to leave, I decided it was a great time to head to the store! 😯 I wasn’t feeling  hungry at first, but obviously, contemplating several brands of all-purpose cleaner is grueling work! When I hit the door to my house at 8am, I needed food in my face…FAST!

Avocado & Jam Toast

Toast with mashed avocado and blackberry jam…this is actually the third time I’ve had this since last week…so GOOD!

Incredible Greens

And since I knew my veggies have been a bit absent lately, I washed it down with a shot of Incredibleness! 😉 Thankfully, a little reading helped me wind down afterwards and I called it a “night” about an hour later.

True story, I JUST titled this post because I wasn’t sure what theme would come out until now. Can we say, “Complete 180”?! I mean, this time last year, I NEVER could have imagined eating without a schedule…OR dipping into a yogurt container (with a bar of UNKNOWN nutritional values) without knowing EXACTLY how much I ate! I can’t help but feel proud that I stuck with this journey (even with all its struggles) and finally finding my inner intuitive eater again!

I could say more, but I’m thinking a “Thoughts” post might be in order for tomorrow! Stay tuned… 😀

WIAW Goes Intuitively Green

I think it’s fitting to bring back the “intuitively green” WIAW button from back
where it all began, wouldn’t you say?

What’s the BEST thing you ate yesterday?

  1. I’m intrigued – avocado and blackberry?!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yep yep! Once you think about the buttery taste of avocado, it really doesn’t seem as strange! It’s one of my favorite combos! 🙂

  2. Glad you’re finding the intuitive eater in you again! 🙂 Makes me happy to hear that, love. And of course your eats look fabulous, as per always. I’m always in awe of your photos – so gorgeous.

  3. Oh hell yeah girl. This is just beyond fabulous! I can just feel the intuitiveness wafting off this post… No scheduled eating times, no measured out food, and granola bars with unknown nutritional value! Go you!

Verrrry interesting about the avocado and jam… I mean, avocado is actually pretty neutral, so I can’t imagine it tasting bad. I’ll have to try that one out soon.

  4. Those blueberries are so plump! I felt dirty writing that. But really, I need those in my cereal bowl, too! I can def see how avo + sweet jam would be tasty. I don’t have either in my fridge right now! For shame.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I literally laughed out loud at that…especially since I’m guilty of shortening the word to “bloobs”! 😆

  5. Did I ever mention how much I loved that coconut chai tea?! LOVE YOOOUUUU!!

  6. I do that with tea at work too! I tell myself it’s like getting a facial. In a meat locker.

  7. Cat says:

Whoah – avo and jam? This sounds like something I need to try NOW. Stupid unripe avocados…

  8. happy for you lady! It’s great that you’re feeling awesome with your intuitive eating journey.
The best thing I ate yesterday – the bites of ice cream I had after dinner. Because ice cream is always fabulous.

  9. Doing happy dances for you, lovely lady!.. while I drool over your delicious eats 😆 Doesn’t it feel freaking amazing to be able to trust yourself to eat whatever you want? It’s like as soon as you ease up on the restriction and control, your body stops trying to rebel against it and everything falls into place. I think the freedom is even more delicious than the food

    • kissmybroccoli says:

“your body stops trying to rebel against”…”the freedom is even more delicious than the food” <- Seriously, you took the words RIGHT out of my mouth! AaaaaaaaaaaaaaaMEN!!! 😀

  10. I LOVE the avocado/jam combination. There is just something so good about that sweet and savory combination. I love it on toast and on rice cakes!

  11. GOOD JOB girlie!! It’s so cool to track progress, isn’t it? You can be so proud of yourself!
And right now, all I want is that tea. Coconut Chai Latte?? YES PLEASE!!
It’s so cold, dark and rainy here, so tea, a movie and some wine later would be perfect. Wanna join me?!? (Does that sound creepy? OMG I didn’t intend to do so, lol)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank you SO much, love!! And Creepy? HECK NO!!! I was about to invite myself over before you extended the invitation! But if traveling’s involved, I vote we meet someplace with a BEACH! 😀

  12. These snacks look wonderful to get you through a night shift! Glad you feel wonderful- and I totally know that chilly feeling where you just want to stick your face into a mug of tea!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, sometimes I just want to crawl inside the cup!! I swear the hospital keeps the thermostat set to “Antarctica”! Haha!

  13. Lyric says:

YOU GO GIRL! I know how hard it can be to let go al of those food rules and counting calories/macros but once you do it really is freeing. The best thing I ate yesterday was a caramel apple for dessert! Its been a while since I’ve had one of those suckers and it was a nice little surprise 😀

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yes! Thanks girlie! “Freeing” is the BEST way to put it! 😀

Mmm, caramel apples? My mom used to make those all the time when I was a kid…oh the memories!

  14. Progress with our relationships with food are always a reason to celebrate!! Great job 🙂

  15. Whyyyyy do I read 25 WIAW posts before I even eat bfast in the morning???? Hehehe. Congratulations on eating intuitively. 🙂

  16. KAT says:

Girl, you SHOULD be proud of this!! I remember the 1st day that I ate things without nutritional info attached. I remember the 1st batch of bars I made without figuring out serving size and calorie count. I remember the 1st time I dunked my spoon (a real spoon, not a measuring spoon) into a jar of peanut butter.
These are all things that need to be celebrated. Those around us may not realize it, but these little moments, are not so little to us. Think of them as fuel to the fire Whenever you feel that slip or that dread starting to creep back, think of THIS post and THIS day, in which you ate what you wanted, when you wanted.
And PLEASE, when you see some of that tea again, think of me and send me a damn box!! 😉

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Could you just do me a favor? Teleport yourself RIGHT here, RIGHT NOW so I can give you the biggest hug and then we can jump up and down together…and then I’ll make you some tea! 😉 xoxo

  17. You always post the best-sounding coffee. Out of all the delicious things I ate yesterday, I most enjoyed a salad that had chickpeas, a bunch of roasted veggies, and goat cheese in it. On the side I had some sprouted-grain toast with hummus and roasted eggplant slices on top—might sound weird but its’ one of my favorite things lately!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I think it’s safe to say that this avocado and jam lovin’ gal doesn’t see ANYTHING as weird! But I must say that salad sounds fantastic…I love roasted veggies on a salad…and goat cheese? Well, that makes everything better!

  18. Oh your toast looks delicious! I’m a coffee mixer too and that seems like a wonderful combo!!

    Looks Great Lady! :o)

  19. Julie says:

I’m all for some avocado toast with jam. That is strange but I think I’d totally love it!

  20. You are amazing and yes, you have all the reason in the world to be proud for being thoughtless in the very best way, lady! In case you aren’t I’ll just be twice as proud of you!
Even though [I think] you know I’m still not too fond of avocado I’m seriously intrigued by the idea of using avocado as the ‘butter’ for your toast. Given its butteryness I feel I should recommend this to my mum but I know she wouldn’t be up for that strange-but-good-ness. And am I the only one noticing your nail polish matched the jam?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, I didn’t even notice that! And you know me…what a disgrace I am to the easily amused community! 😉 I actually had forgotten how you felt about avocado. You should make some chocolate “pudding” out of it. I’m SURE that would change your mind!

And thanks, girlie! I knew you of all people would understand my excitement! 😀

  21. Well thanks to my vday link up (which you will be submitting pancakes for btw…;)) we only have sweets in the house. Not the worst thing but I ate pie for breakfast and cookies for lunch today. I did manage to eat some brussels and salmon for dinner last night which was refreshing!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Yes! I’ve already got a few sticky notes with ideas to try this weekend…fingers crossed! Hmm, maybe I should make them savory to help balance things out! 😉

  22. Hi there! I was popping over from Jenn’s WIAW linkup. So I’m totally scratching my head at the avocado and blackberry jam combo but I’m really willing to give it a try. A little scared, but willing! Thanks for the idea!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Don’t worry, I had my reservations at first too, but if you stop to think about how buttery avocado tastes on it’s own, pairing it with jam doesn’t really seem as strange! I even add the combo to Greek yogurt sometimes! Definitely worth a try! 🙂

  23. Awesome! I’m so glad you’re finding your intuitive groove. 🙂 That coconut chai tea sounds really good. I’ve never tried that brand before, but I bet regular chai tea with coconut milk would be good!

The best thing I ate yesterday was a few squares of a TJs dark chocolate and caramel with sea salt bar… holy smokes is it good!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Can you believe I never thought of that with the coconut milk?! Guess I don’t need to hoard what few of these tea bags I still have! Haha!

Ohh, I’ve seen that bar at TJ’s before and wondered if it was any good! Might have to pick it up on my next trip!

  24. I’m really happy to hear that you’re finding balance with food! I was just like you, but I am slowly working on eating intuitively. 😀

Gah.. your eats sounds so tasty! I love the adding of peanut flour to your cereal. I bet it tasted amazing.

Can’t go without my coffee. 😉

By the way, your intro? Loved it.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! I was wondering if anyone would have something to say about that! 😉

Good for you for working toward finding your inner intuitive eater…it definitely takes time (and patience) but it is ALL worth it in the end! 🙂

  25. Maria says:

Oh man. I haven’t had Pizza Hut in ages! I need it! (Or just the breadsticks. Those sticks of butter are amazing!)

I’m so proud of you and the progress you are making! It’s very clear from your writing that you are in a great place with IE and are genuinely happy with the new changes. Looking forward to reading your thoughts with it. (I just finished Jamie’s challenge and looked back on today and was shocked to see that I practiced IE all day as well. I didn’t even think about it).

Also, thank you for the little shoutout 🙂 xoxo

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Seriously, I cannot even tell you the last time I had Pizza Hut! I prefer our local pub & brewery for they’re amazing pizza combinations (and beer cheese dip) but I have to say, there is just something about the pan crust from Pizza Hut!

And is that NOT the best feeling? When you realize that your intuition is starting to take back over! I’m so excited for you! xoxo

  26. I have a similar coconut chai tea and it is amazing, especially with almond milk and a touch of honey. I’m glad your inner intuitive eating warrior has resurfaced. 🙂

  28. Lauren says:

Ooh, I love clicking on the word “favorite” and being sent to my own blog 🙂

  29. Way to go pretty lady. I bet it feels fabulous to trust yourself and your body around food again. You’ve come a long way, and you should feel damn proud. Two snaps and a twirl just for you.

  30. So my dear broccoli…..I am intrigued by the combination of cereal with unmixed peanut flour- how does it turn out and do you mind me asking how much liquid you’d typically pour? I have 2 bags of it and keen to be more creative with them besides in pancakes!

you know I am a big fan of this post and the continued progress 😀 Although avocado and jam? :p

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Really? You’ve never tried avocado and jam? I thought for sure! I mean, the avocado is practically like BUTTER! 🙂

As for the peanut flour, I usually do a big spoonful (maybe 2 Tablespoons) and fill my bowl up with milk like I would normally. I don’t stir it up because I like to get bites of the soggy clumps of peanut flour…that sounds weird as I type it out but I promise it’s delicious! Ha!

  31. Sarah says:

AHHH Coconut chia!! You have to be kidding me… man I am missing out while living abroad. 🙁 Enjoy for the two of us, okay!
