Thinking Out Loud: Embracing the ADD

Big thanks to AMANDA for giving me a reason to skip an intro today!

Book - Dogs of Babel

1. Remember that book I said I got sucked into on Monday night? Well, last night, I FINISHED IT! Such a good, easy read, but with enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat! It’s funny, I only picked it up was because it was on the $2 rack at the bookstore a few months ago…ok, and I thought the cover was pretty! πŸ˜‰

Madison's Banana Scones with PB Glaze

2. Banana scones with almond peanut butter glaze…you need these in your life STAT! As soon as I spied Madison’s post for these a couple weeks ago, I KNEW the fate of the two bananas lying on my kitchen counter. I took them to work with me and they were a HUGE hit! True story, this is only the second time I’ve used my almond flour and the last time, I made scones too!

3. Ok, so I know I’m pushing 30 now β™«Β Ah, Push It! β™«, but have I really gotten so old that I can no longer appreciate currently trending “music”? Seriously, Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love”? Wtf IS that?! Surf board…? WHAT? I’m not linking that shit!

4. But I know I’m not THAT old! I heard a (relatively young-sounding) radio DJ refer to someone as being “long in the tooth” the other day. I have NEVER heard anyone use this phrase before. I looked it up and apparently it is another way of saying “old” and comes from the fact that horse’s teeth grow longer as they age. Weird!

Tiger

5. I took Tiger to the vet over the weekend for his first check up in…three years? Better late than never, right? Don’t answer that. I’ll spare you the pics I took of him when we first walked into the office (think hair standing on end and ears flat) and leave you with this shot of my statuesque little man. Yeah, looking at this picture ALMOST makes me forget his recent terrorizing of my house.

6. Apparently my body has adopted a new sleep schedule. All this week, I’ve been going to bed around 9 or 10am…instead of faceplanting as soon as I get home…and have been sleeping until 6:30pm. So yeah, I’ve basically gotten NOTHING done this week.

7. These are seriously the CUTEST things I’ve ever seen in my life! Yeah, we won’t even talk about the amount of time I spent cruising Foodgawker, drooling over Valentines Day treats last night…and I have no intention whatsoever of making any of them!

Cookies & Cream Quest Bar

8. I FINALLY got my hands on a Cookies & Cream Quest bar last week. And the verdict? ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY AMAZING! The perfect balance of crunchy cookie and creamy…well, CREAM! I see a box in my not-so-distant future! ;

Vegan Pancake Fail with Cream Cheese & Jam

9. It’s funny all the new ways I can think to bastardize these vegan pancake fails…cream cheese and jam has been happening at LEAST once a day lately. Oh and I’m only halfway through the stash! That’s funny…right? Say yes or I’ll cry!

10. So this was supposed to be a super easy, “get ‘er done” type post so I could conquer my never-ending unread list on BlogLovin’, but then it took me like twenty minutes to title the damn thing and I swear, for every link I included on this post, an hour was lost to ADD…and this is the moment where I got my post title! πŸ˜†

Thinking-Out-Loud

  1. Taryn says:

Ooh, I am definitely having cream cheese and jam on a bagel later today.. that looks delicious! As do those banana scones.. yum!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh girl, the scones…HEAVEN!! They are perfectly sweet and that glaze just takes them to a whole other level! Also they come together so easily, I was actually able to make them on a work night! #winning

  2. Sarah says:

I have you know I requesed the book from my library, so now I’m waiting anxiously for it to arrive! I haven’t taken my cats to the vet since their first year vaccinations and they are 7 now. Oops. They are indoor cats too (well except when I take them outside in the back yard on leashes in the summer) and seem healthy, so really I’m not too worried. And I think the adjective “fail” no longer suits your pancakes – if it ever even did. They obviously are making for lots of winning snacks! I also have to note that I find it slightly amusing to me that you top your vegan pancakes with cream cheese πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Right? Did you see yesterday? I topped them with BUTTER! I laugh in the face of danger veganism, ha-ha-ha-ha! Sorry, that Lion King quote just came out of nowhere! πŸ˜‰ But seriously, whatever it takes to actually give them a FLAVOR! They are so bland! >.< You make me feel a TON better about the vet thing...I think the same thing...I mean, if he's an inside cat and there doesn't seem to be any problems, why pay a doctor every year to turn up his tail, tell me he's fat and happy, and send me home? Also, I have to say I'm totally fascinated by your ability to put your cats on leashes! I tried that with my last cat and she turned into a ship anchor! Haha! And you HAVE to let me know what you think of the book! I honestly couldn't believe I read it so fast...it usually takes me at least a week to read any book!

  3. Pretty:

    YES! (don’t cry, ok?)
I’m so glad I just made a penpal crack deal with Laura – she will get youknowwhat and I will get the Questbars! CAN NOT WAIT!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

      Ohhhh, yessss! VERY pretty!

Haha! Omg, Laura’s about to come face to face with a jar of crack?! I can’t WAIT to hear her reaction! Haha!

  4. It’s a miracle I got through your post and read every word without getting distracted. I would say most people would describe me as frazzled (which I’m fairly certain comes through in my posts) because I am legit always running around doing a million things at once. I can’t sit still…but then again, I don’t want to sit still! Also I want that quest bar NOW.

  5. I honestly think that blogging has made my online ADD so much worse. I’ve been reading about how multitasking is the devil and actually decreases your productivity, while I sit here commenting on your post, checking twitter, following up to the links you posts, AND sorting through my e-mail. Epic fail on my part. No wonder I feel like I’m constantly busy as heck but never actually get that much done. I blame multiple browser tabs….

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ugh, so glad to know I’m not alone! I was actually just about to say that…how I like to “think” I’m good at multitasking but in reality, it probably takes me DOUBLE the amount of time to do anything! Haha! And I swear I need to set a timer every time I log into Pinterest or Foodgawker…biggest time sucks EVER!

  6. Eric says:

You’re so old! Your dirty will be one week before mine!

  7. I’m pretty sure it takes me double the amount of time it should to write a blog post, because I always get sidetracked with random internet wanderings…no wonder blogging takes up so much of my time πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ahhhh, thank GOD I’m not the only one! I hate it when people are all like, “oh it only takes like 30 minutes for me to type up a post!” I’m like, WHAT?!?! Lol

  8. Yessss I have those scones pinned and am def making them soon!

  9. lol. google “beyonce surfboard.” Before, I was like. wtf. and then i was still like wtf, but now it makes me laugh. because sometimes i’m a 13 year old boy.

  10. I am so easily distracted! I don’t how it has happened either? I never used to be like this. I must have adult ADD! My theory is technology has been the cause – i.e. having my iphone by my side all day long. Check out my post today on my Blueberry Banana Oat Muffins! http://theskinny-life.com/blueberry-banana-oat-muffins

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, HEARTS!! Those are the cutest things EVER! <- Um, yeah…along with the ADD, I'm also "that" girl…the one who is very easily amused! πŸ˜‰

  11. I am so ADD!!! I never have less than 15 tabs open on my computer at a time! No wonder it is so slow….

  12. Madison says:

The scones turned out looking incredible on your end! Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚

ADD.. Uh, ya. I always read through blog posts and end up clicking away to one of their links and forget to come back and comment!!

If I wasn’t on my phone right now I’d have several windows open. Or tabsMaybe both.

Speaking of phones, some creepy ad just started floating down the screen with a foot on it. Haha. At first I thought you had discovered a new picture effect πŸ˜‰

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank YOU for the amazing recipe! The scones were a huge hit with my coworkers…I’ll definitely be making them again!

Ads are probably the worst for ADD! Like their screaming “look at me, LOOK AT ME!!” And I promise if I ever found some cool new picture effect it would be ANYTHING but feet! πŸ˜‰

  13. Kat says:

Oooooh SHINY! That’s what my husband says every time I get distracted or go off on some random tangent. He finds it hilarious how easily distracted I am. Jerk.
And I’m not a fan of BeyoncΓ© in general, so I feel you on that one. I basically only listen to “popular” music now if I’m working out because I need something upbeat to keep me going. I must admit though…my Britney Spears Pandora station is pretty much the bee’s knees….

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I’m the same way…just need something upbeat when I’m in the gym…though lately I’ve been digging my “angry boy” music. When I want something more “fun” I switch to my 80’s pop Pandora station…nothing like some “Come on Eileen” to get you pumped! HA!

  14. Have you seen that someecard about the tabs on a computer screen and you brain? That’s me.

Yay for scones! And yay for cheese making everything allllll better. AND YAY FOR VD!!!

  15. I have a tendency to buy books that look pretty to me as well. What can I say? They’re too pretty not to buy. πŸ˜‰
    Those scones. Oh my.. Mouthwatering.
I still need to get my hands on that Questbar, but they’re always sold out. *le sigh..*
That cream cheese and jelly combo sounds interestingly good. πŸ˜‰

  16. Lyric says:

I get side-tracked way to easily. I mean just right now I have 8 tabs open right now. 8. I just can’t do one thing I have to do multiple. Do not ask me why. And my book mark page? I do not even want to talk that. Way to many things saved on there.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh dear God, don’t even get me STARTED on the bookmarks…just like Pinterest…that’s where links go to die on my computer! Haha!

  17. betty says:

i feel the same way about some trends/music, and i’m only 26! like, i’m loving the second knuckle rings, lately, especially the chevron ones, but I feel like I would look like my mom with her toe ring shes worn for the last 5 years.

butttttt… I have to say, I cant say anything bad about beyonce’s new song. I actually bought the whole album, which I never do. maybe I love the song because I just love her so much, idk. how many times can I confess my love about beyonce in one comment? while I get the surfboard is kinda random, I still love her πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I felt the same way about “jeggings” for the longest time…until I broke down and bought three pairs and fell in love with them! Ha!

I’ll let you off the hook on the Beyonce thing since I heart you so much…and well, everything else she does is pretty fantastic! I just wonder what her kid is going to think of this song when she hears it someday! 😯

  18. There needs to be more pictures of Tiger on your blog stat! Stat I say!!! πŸ˜‰ He is just too cute and yes I will continue to gloss over the fact he terrorises the house.

How good did Madison’s scones look? Seeing you made some makes me want to get in on that too!

  19. Julie says:

Your cat’s eyes are gorgeous! I like cookies and cream Quest bars, but it’s not my favorite. The texture isn’t as good as cookie dough/white chocolate raspberry. In any case, I hate throwing out food so wishing you the best of luck with those pancakes!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I’m not a huge fan of the raspberry one since the seeds get stuck in my teeth, but I’m totally with you on the cookie dough…that one is still my #1! Glad to know I’m not the only one out there who gets miffed at the thought of wasting food…and hey, there really is nothing that peanut butter (or cream cheese and jam) can’t fix! πŸ˜‰

  20. Cassie says:

I’m so easily distracted. Everything is an absolute time suck for me. It’s awful.

  21. Hahahahaha easily distracted and me go hand in hand. I bought almond flour the other day to attempt a savoury pattie recipe but now I want to make scones!

Now as for those Quest bars….You reckon they trump white chocolate and raspberry?

    • kissmybroccoli says:

In my opinion? YES! Cookie dough is still my number one, but the cookies and cream is definitely runner up…though I tried it baked for the first time yesterday and wasn’t really a fan…much better straight up!

  22. That’s exactly the problem when you do a post with lots of link ups…you start reading the older posts and then click on the links in those and then read the comments and click on a link there….suddenly you look up, and it’s two hours later and you haven’t progressed at all on the post you were meant to be typing. Whew, that was way too big of a thought. I got distracted like three times while typing it.

Keep on bastardizing those vegan pancakes. I think you should sprinkle them in olive oil, some S&P, red pepper and parmesan. Then roast them in the oven and make croutons out of them. Could be interesting.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Could be interesting? How about COULD BE GENIUS?! Ahhh, I’ve still got two left! Pancake croutons coming soon to a broccoli kitchen near you! πŸ˜€

And I KNEW you could commiserate with me on the whole “squirrel” thing! Lol

  23. Surfboard! WTF?! That’s exactly what I thought when I saw them perform it at the Grammy’s. WTFFFFFFF?????

  24. Calee says:

so with you on “music”. if it weren’t for my friend Steph, I would probably only ever listen to 70s glam rock. haha.
