Thinking Out Loud: Duck, Duck, VEGAN!

Hey there my little Broccoli bites!

I’ve got a lot on my mind today so howabouts we just get to it, mmkay?

The weather has been FANTASTIC this week! I’m really hoping it carries on into the weekend so I can fully enjoy it, but I did squeeze in a little time before work the other day for a nice walk at the park.

Baby Geese at the Park

And look, baby geese! Aren’t they cute…um, even though they’d peck out your eyes in a heartbeat??

Yesterday morning, when I got off work, I went home, took a Benedryl and slept for EIGHT HOURS! But the best part was when I woke up, I actually felt rested…something that hasn’t happened in over a week! Please join me in standing in my chair and praising the heavens! πŸ˜‰

And speaking of things I’ve been missing…hot yoga! I haven’t been since LAST Sunday and I can definitely tell a difference! I wanted to go before leaving for Atlanta, but ended up waiting too late and all the classes were booked up. *womp womp* This week, I’m not taking any chances…I’ve had my spot reserved for tonight’s class for four days!

Kitchen Floor Yoga

Because let’s face it, kitchen floor yoga just isn’t the same…even WITH the sparkles!

And here’s hoping that tonight’s zen will be the ticket to another good night’s sleep because tomorrow…I signed up for an extra shift…on DAYS!! 😯 Omg, am I crazy??? Wish me luck!

You know how I mentioned the drunken pact I made to do a hardcore cleanse? Welllllll, I may be a quitter, but I’m never one to back down from a challenge! So, while I no intention of doingΒ the FULL program, I have decided to try it out for a few days. My system has been out of whack for weeks now…bloating, irregularity, acne…so I figure it’s worth a try. And I have to say,Β it IS helping me get a bit of my kitchen mojo back!

Massaged Kale Salad with B.Nutt Squash & Peas

That would be a massaged kale salad (just for you, Arman) topped with peas and the butternut squash that my parents bought me forrrrrrrrr MY BIRTHDAY! Yeah, I’ve had that baby on my counter since December! 😯

Lentils with Spinach & Veggies

And I even experimented a bit and whipped up a little lentil dish in no time…I still need to work on the spices before sharing, but I think a certain German blend of mine would be very proud! πŸ˜€

Like I said, I don’t plan on doing this for long and if I have a craving for something that I believe to be my body asking for certain nutrition (read: eggs), then I have every intention on fulfilling that craving. Plus, I came home from Atlanta with quite the dairy-haul from the Buford Highway Farmer’s Market…

Atlanta Cheese & Yogurt

So I figure, it’s only a matter of time! πŸ˜‰

  1. Yay for sleep!! So good to hear you got in all that rest!
The salad looks beyond….though I am always a little irritated by the word combo ‘massaged-kale’…..imagining kale lying on a bench and a Lomi-Lomi therapist massaging it….kind of weird.
Enjoy the sun, it came out here too since days – so freaking fabulous!!

  2. Yay sleep! It is a wonderful thing πŸ˜‰ And the kale salad looks pretty! Almost makes me wish I liked kale salad…

  3. You managed to make a squash survive since December?!?! I kept a spaghetti in my pantry for a little over 2 months and the darn thing started sprouting on me. There went my last chance to ever try one πŸ˜† I’ll get around to picking up another… eventually. Also… can you come massage my kale, not tell me it’s kale, and make me eat it? One bad past experience with the stuff and I’ve been scarred for life…

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh nooooooo! πŸ™ Better idea: Come over here…it’s warmer and I just bought a spaghetti squash today! πŸ˜‰

  4. I haven’t taken a hot yoga class in WEEKS and haven’t really done any yoga in WEEKS…I think it’s taking it’s toll on my mental state…

  5. Glad you got some rest! I have been feeling the same way, too little sleep this week and its a struggle to get through my days. I know how important sleep is and am usually really good about getting enough but its just been one of those weeks! Maybe I can catch up tonight!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I hear ya…sometimes it’s hard to fit it all in! Hope you got some good rest this weekend! πŸ™‚

  6. Lyric says:

Omg your squash must have super powers if its lasted from December! I never keep them in the house long enough to see how long they’ll last because I love them so much. Especially butter nut. And acorn. And kabocha. Ok I love them all.

  7. Heatherrrrrr if I hear how the weather is glorious in your parts of the world one more time I’m gonna force feed you that cheese until you’ve eaten it all!!!!

  8. That lentil dish looks incredibly inticing! I am looking forward to the recipe πŸ™‚

  9. Love your blog – it’s adorable! Kitchen yoga (equivalent to my bedroom yoga) is definitely not the same as a real class. The sparkles do may it look appealing though πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww, thank you so much, Kelsey! And I’m pretty convinced that everything looks more appealing with sparkles…or sprinkles! πŸ˜‰

  10. Hilary says:

Hot yoga!? I have been wanting to try it forever! It is crazy how popular it has become just this year alone!

  11. I thought I’d never make it, but today my body is adjusting. Clearly it needed a cleaning out… I won’t tell you what the proof was, but you can imagine something similar to our lentil conversation. LOL!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Bahahaha! I was going to tell you the same thing today (guess my system is a little slower?), but yeah…wasn’t exactly sure how to word it! Lol

  12. Ah, the return of the kitchen mojo…just in time for a cleanse. Heck with that; just eat more kale, less cereal, and you’ll be fine. Ha! I’m jealous of your hot yoga AGAIN! Although I did make it to the gym four times this week, and it’s only Thursday. Tomorrow will be farmers marketing, provided the weather behaves.

Say hi to your duck friends for me.

  13. I wish I could tolerate eggs.. My stomach is like “UHH NO GIRL.” *le sigh..*

I have been loving yoga lately. Seriously, it’s the best. So challenging yet relaxing.

    Those salads look delicious. πŸ˜€

  14. Loooove massaged kale salads! Especially with butternut squash. Kale + orange veggies = magical.

So jealous of your cheese haul! I love taleggio cheese – there’s a local dairy here that makes SUCH a good one!

  15. Oh yeah…about that cleanse….I think I said I was going to do it, too. But finals is NOT the right time. It IS the right time for yoga. πŸ™‚ [I think I’m finally going to try out the yoga studio here in town…]

  16. Elizabeth says:

A cleanse, eh? I’m doing a juice cleanse right now WAHHH! I totally feel ya on your body feeling it if you miss yoga. What kind of yoga do you do? I am so into hot yoga as well but hate Bikram!

    xx,
    Elizabeth

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, I actually really like Bikram! It’s what I first started doing when I began going to this studio in town. Before that, I’d only ever done Vinyasa at the gym…which is alright, but toooooootally different in the studio! I never realized that!

  17. Remember how I bought a tonne of kabocha because kabocha season was ending? Well, I left them in a cool, area and after a week, two had started to go rotten!!! Stupid Australia. Our kabocha must have a minimal shelf life. I’ll need to get some butternut again. Baha, massaging kale salad. When kale goes down in price ($7 a bunch) I’ll try massaging it… or whipping it.

I’m intrigued to see how this cleanse goes for you!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh nooooooo! I had one randomly go bad on me in less than a week not long ago…it was “melting” all over the kitchen counter (for lack of a better word)! I may or may not have cried a little!

  18. I don’t have the willpower for a cleanse right now… go you! I so want that lentil recipe!!

  19. I really like hot yoga, but the last time I did it I couldn’t get over the stench. I met a lady recently at my physical therapy who told me to try a different studio. Apparently not all of them are stinky.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha, no, not all of them! And honestly, I thought ours was a little smelly at first but now…I don’t know, maybe I’ve gotten used to it?? 😯 Lol!

  20. You know you’re a food blogger when… You don’t bat your eyelash at somebody mentioning that she received a squash as a birthday gift. Not weird at all ;).

Um and can we talk about that cheese? Blueberry stilton is always welcome in my face, if it’s ever looking for a new home.
