In and Out!

Good morning, ma’ dears!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I have to say, mine went by entirely too fast (thanks to that extra shift I picked up on Saturday), but you know what’s great about Mondays? You have the chance to look back at those last few days…no matter how quickly they seemed to fly by and reflect. There were some ups and downs this weekend, but all in all, I think it had a good, no a MARVELOUS, balance! 😉

This weekend definitely had a good theme too…with a good mix of activities spent at home and out and about, I was able to enjoy some rest and relaxation on my own as well as some fabulous weather and other activities with friends like…

IN: Power nappin’

I’ve changed up my schedule a bit so that on Thursdays I only sleep for a few hours after I get off work in the morning. It seems to help me get back to more of a “normal” sleep schedule for the weekend…and it’s nice to actually have a day to do stuff instead of sacrificing it.

OUT: Feelin’ hot, hot HOT!

There’s just something about getting the weekend off to a nice and SWEATY start! I got up and hit up the 10:45am class and felt ahhhhhhhmazing…AFTER it was over! Yoga high for the win! 😉

In: Dinner Drinks and a Movie!

Drinky Drink

I had a friend over Thursday night and I just HAD to make us the “Dory” drinks that my sister whipped up for us last weekend! We sipped our tropical concoctions while watching another FREE Redbox rental, Dallas Buyers Club, which we both really enjoyed…and there may or may not have been some popcorn “shared” that I totally ended up dominating! Lol

Out: New foods & new sights!

Tandoor Indian Buffet 1

I’ve been DYING to try the lunch buffet at Tandoor, our town’s ONLY Indian restaurant, so I met a friend and tried a little (or a lot) of everything…there was definitely more naan consumed than pictured! 😉 After we finished eating, we decided to take advantage of the beeeeeeea-UTIFUL weather and hike some (new-to-me) trails at Dunbar Cave!

Dunbar Cave Hike Lake Turtles

The day was perfect with an amazing breeze…and even though I didn’t plan ahead and ended up hiking it in my flip flops (whoops?)…I have to say I got a pretty great calf workout! But my favorite part though was seeing all the little turtles sunbathing by the lake!

In: Me time

Zevia Cocktail

Later that night, I enjoyed a relaxing evening at home with my sore feet up and a drink  in my hand (seriously, you have GOT to try this combo!) while some Game of Thrones marathoning went down. I finished season two…and I swear I almost spilled my drink during the last two episodes! 😯

OUT: Back to Tandoor!

Tandoor Indian Buffet 2

Yup, after literally DREAMING of light and fluffy, toasted naan, I ended up BACK at Tandoor the very next day! I called up another friend to join me…hoping I’d be able to practice some restraint with company, but yeah, I ended up having to ROLL myself OUT! Trust me folks…it wasn’t pretty! 🙁

In: Work, work, and work some MORE!

But the good thing about work? I have amazing coworkers who give me a SCOBY to MAKE MY OWN KOMBUCHAAAAA…ok, so yeah, there’s really just one girl who actually knows what that is, but can I get a hell yeah?!

SCOBY

HELL YEAH!!! Now fingers crossed I didn’t fuck up anything and can actually drink my fermented tea in 5 more days!

OUT: Dining al fresco!

Eggs & Kabocha

After getting off work yesterday morning and sleeping for NINE (almost uninterrupted) HOURS, I took the 45 minutes I had before I had to get ready for my regular Sunday shift to whip up a thing of sweet and savory perfection!

It’s been TOO long since I’ve enjoyed my BBQ PB&J combo so I steamed half a kabocha, sprinkled on some BBQ seasoning, drizzled it with peanut flour + fig jam, and topped it with two perfectly sunny eggs! And then soaked up the last bit of daylight while I (sloppily) shoveled this bowl into my face on the patio!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m home from work and it’s POURING outside so I’m going to be crossing my fingers that in a few minutes I’ll be IN dreamland!

Did you spend your weekend IN or OUT or BOTH?

Have you ever made homemade kombucha?

  1. Hey! Found you via the MIMM linkup 🙂

That Dory drink is so blue! Love weekend hikes and those pics are fantastic. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend 🙂

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hey there, Camille! Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting! Looks like you had a nice recharging weekend as well! I love your little pottery stand and seriously, beer flights are the BEST! I think every restaurant/bar should serve them! Ha!

  2. Hilary says:

Mine sounds so similar I was in and out all weekend! Although I stuck to staying in after 10 pm haha, gotta get my beauty sleep but it was a fantastic weekend!
I love that combo of your BBQ, PB&J I am totally trying that out next week!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh yeah, nothing gets in the way of my sleep…much too precious! You’ve GOT to let me know what you think of the BBQ PB&J! People are always so surprised when I tell them, but it’s seriously the BEST sweet/savory combos I’ve ever tasted!

  3. Kat says:

Ive never even TRIED kabocha, let alone made my own. I’m still not 100% sure Im into it, seeing as how people say its tastes like beer? Bleh…I hate beer.
I spent my weekend IN IN IN like the old lady that I am. Although I was OUT at 630AM sunday morning to work the antique fair with my mom. That’s always an….interesting adventure….

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Some of them can taste a little beer-ish, but the fruity flavor ones are more like…a wine cooler?

Ohhhh, come home with anything cool from the antique fair? Like a collection of WW2 era spoons? Lol

  4. I’ve made homemade kombucha! I actually took a fermenting class (I’m so cool.) and the best advice my teacher gave me was not to think about it so much. The less you think about your mama SCOBY the better your kombucha will turn out. I have to say….she was right!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh girl, you ARE cool! I’d love to take a fermenting class someday…did you learn how to make sauerkraut? If this kombucha thing works out, that’s next on my to-do list of “thing that intimidate me”! Lol

  5. I love kombucha, but I hate paying for it…and I’m intrigued by the idea of making my own but I’m terrified of accidentally poisoning myself or something!
And that Zevia/Vanilla vodka combo….ohmygod you are brilliant. Can we make those in Park City? 😉

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh girl, you’re not alone in that fear! I swear I’ve got my fingers, toes, AND EYES crossed that I didn’t mess this up! And heck yeah, I can totally be the Zevia bartender at blend…though I’m thinking we made need to see about mixing up some “adult” floats as well! 😉

  6. I’ve been wanting to make my own kombucha for a good long while now, but I’ve been putting it off because I’m seriously terrified of giving myself food poisoning 😆 My mom’s been making her own kefir for years now and she’s never run into any problems, but knowing my luck… yeaaaaaaah 😯

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I have the same fear and that’s what has kept me from even attempting to make any kind of fermented foods at home. I’m still a little nervous even though I followed the instructions in a book to a tee AND watched about half a dozen videos before I ever went to the store for the materials! Lol

  7. Sounds like a fun weekend!!! And you’re brave for making your own Kombucha! A friend gave me a Scoby but I was too scared to do anything with it!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ha! Well, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have my doubts/hesitation in the days between her giving it to me and getting to the store for the materials I needed! I’m still not convinced I didn’t mess things up somewhere! 😯

  8. Looks like a great weekend! I was definitely IN and OUT this weekend – OUT for work, IN cleaning the house, OUT for a massage, IN for a relaxing night in, OUT for an 8 mile run. 😉

  9. I love the Zevia ginger root beer! And I am loving what you mixed with it… 🙂

  10. My weekend was also a good mix or in and out—I did have to work at the hospital Saturday, but I enjoyed a nice walk on my lunch break. I also went to a really fun event on Sunday called a “period party” where a health coach talked about all those lady-parts things we wanted to know but were all afraid to ask.

I went to a kombucha-making class once and kind of regret not buying all the stuff to start making it at home (like a scoby). I think I actually would have done it but talked myself out of it at the time!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, that sounds like an interesting party! It may make me sound like a complete dork, but I love learning new things about the human body!

And seriously, had it been up to me to go out on my own and purchase a SCOBY, I’d never have done it. I’ve been saying for years that I want to make my own sauerkraut and still have yet to get up the nerve! Haha!

  11. I spent my weekend frolicking with the Hubby. It was delicious and marvelous and cocktails were consumed. I also put in a three mile run and made a farmers market omelet and killed some sweet potatoes. Oops.
I’m thrilled to hear about all that sleep action you’re getting. Two snaps for you. You’ll get a twirl when I see you at Blend. 😉

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Frolicking? Is that what all the hip kids are calling it these days? *hardy har har har* And you should know that I will most definitely be holding you to that twirl! 😉

  12. That’s so awesome you got a scoby from your coworker! I can’t wait to see how your kombucha turns out!

My weekend was mostly spent in: watching Gilmore Girls with my sister, hanging out with the family, and making dinner at JZ’s house with a side of Breaking Bad. The only time I really spent out was when I got my hair cut on Saturday!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

That sounds like my kind of IN weekend…nothing better than spending as much time as possible with family, friends, and the man!! Oh and you should probably know that every time you mention him, I think of the rapper Jay Z! Lol

  13. I am SO excited for you to make kombucha! Maybe a BBQ flavor? LOL!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, hahaha! Not quite sure about that #strangebutgoodweirdness, but the first thing on my list is to recreate my favorite GT’s flavor…lavender! 😀

  14. Oh the views are sooo stunning!! And I want to go to TANDOOR! Goodness, those plates look heavenly. You should definitely join Laura on her trip to SWITZERLAND NEXT WEEK (sorry, I need to shout that) and join us for the Indian Dinner I will take her! Heck, and everything else of the shennanigans!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, I just found out about her upcoming trip! I’d totally tag along if I could…but SOMEBODY has YET to get herself a passport! #epicfail Ugh, I’m so so soooooooooo jealous! But she did say she’d bring me back some crack spread! Lol! Oh and speaking of…I finally “cracked” into the Ovomaltine cookies you sent me FORRRRRRREVER ago….HOLY SHIT!!! I had to put them in the back of the freezer…they’re not safe in my house! 😯

  15. I had an In and Out weekend, too. I was In for finally catching up on the piles and piles of laundry we had and out for some shopping and pedicures with my best friends! It was the perfect balance of house work and “me time!”

  16. Calee says:

OMG the indian food porn. just. ugh. want. Also, that hike looks GLORIOUS. Glad you made the most out of your weekend even though there was extra work! *mwah*

  17. Sunshine do you have sparkling apple juice available? You NEED to try that exact vanilla vodka with it- it is amazing. although with a root beer, that sounds pretty epic too! Let’s not mention the Indian food….oh my. I would even had sought out a third friend and done 3 days running!

I dislike kombucha so the idea of making it sounds about as appealing as not using a spoon to pour out peanut flour from the packet….aka a mess.

The blog post title reminded me of the epic burger place in LA!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ohhhh, I’m intrigued! Will definitely be trying that boozy combo! Oh lord, you DO dislike kombucha! By the way, have you tried peanut flour on your cereal yet??
