Happy St. PEA-trick’s Day?

You guys already know I’m a bit LOT strange…but I swear I’m not completely off my rocker with this one! Actually, this combination has been swimming around in my head for weeks now…ever since the lovely Davida announced she would be hosting a green food linkup for St. Patrick’s Day. Hey, if that girl can post a dish featuring Brussels sprouts AND blueberries together, then I think my little smoothie deserves a second look…and put those eyebrows down, would ya?!

Give PEAS a chance?

This smoothie has got it ALL! It’s got veggies…it’s got fruit…it’s got healthy fats and plant-based proteins…the only thing it hasn’t got? Booze…but hey, feel free to spike it if you’re feeling froggy? 😉 Haha, get it? Frogs are…green? Ok, never mind. Moving ON! But seriously, it IS a holiday after all and who am I, a woman of Irish roots, to deny someone a little midday imbibing? As far as running into your boss at work later? Well…

Sweet Pea Smoothie 1

Let the luck of the Irish be with you!

So basically, this smoothie is the brain child of my Spring Pea Dip and my Vegan Beautifying Beet Smoothie…combining frozen peas with banana for a surprisingly sweet flavor and then adding tofu for extra protein and avocado to bump up the creaminess factor! So basically, this smoothie makes me…a genius!

Let’s face it, we Irish aren’t exactly known for our modesty! 😉

  1. I never EVER would have thought to put peas in a smoothie…but we’re all about spinach and avocado, so why not? I love this idea! :)

  2. Cat says:

As batsh*t crazy as that sounds, I think peas in a smoothie would go down a treat! I can add a drop of Irish whiskey yes? Sláinte!

  3. Umm, I had a green smoothie this morning, which may end up being the only green food I consume today considering that I’m supposed to hit the bars later this afternoon :-p might as well enjoy my last official St. Patrick’s Day as a student!

And not going to lie, peas in a smoothie is weird…but I trust you 😉

  4. Mint + peas = such a winning combination. I’ve never thought to have them cold, though! This is pretty genius. And the photos are so vibrant!

I’m having very Irish food for dinner: veggies and potatoes boiled in a whole can of guinness and the gluten-free Irish soda bread I baked up yesterday, but nothing too green besides the cabbage. Might have to make this for lunch to get in the colorful spirit. But maybe as a soup, as it’s extremely cold here.

Thanks, Sarah! To tell you the truth, I’m still a bit surprised it came out! Ha! Have you seen my “soupies” from last year? Basically a warm version of a smoothie using ricotta cheese! http://www.kissmybroccoliblog.com/2013/01/11/sippin-on-a-soupie/ I definitely recommend them for mornings when the thought of cold food makes your bones hurt! 😉

That dinner sounds fabulous…and with homemade gluten-free soda bread?! Very impressive! I just have to say, I love your “real time” recipe instruction. Glad the dough made it into the pan alright! Lol

  5. I never in a million years would have thought to put peas in a smoothie. I think it’s brilliant though, and it’s another perfect way to sneak in those veggies!

  6. That is awesome! Never would have thought to add peas, but I am totally on board!

  7. Sounds like a winner to me! I thought you were just going to add pea protein, but you went for the whole dang peas. It still sounds good though. I always give peas a chance. :)

  8. You, my friend, are one smart cookie!! I LOVE frozen peas..like seriously, I’m obsessed. I definitely never would think to add them to a smoothie though. You better believe I’ll be trying that out!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awesome! Can’t wait to hear what you think! I’ll admit I was a bit surprised that it worked so well! Further proof that adding a banana to a smoothie is like a little miracle! Haha!

  9. Love this! Frozen peas in a smoothie is genius! I also happen to have a bag hanging out in my freezer…Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Haha I’d say I celebrated with a green smoothie and some salad this weekend, but does it count as celebrating if it’s a regular thing?

  10. Girl, you blow my mind away with these recipes! Seriously, I would have never thought to put peas in a smoothie! I am so tempted to try this soon. 😉

    Happy St Patty’s day!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

I’ll admit that I surprised myself a little with this one! Haha! I’d love to know what you think if you DO try it!

  11. I’ve added in spinach and kale, so why not peas!? Love that idea!

  12. Defying the odds one smoothie at a time! This looks absolutely fab! I still need to try one of your tofu smoothies. Now that the sun’s a shinenin I think it’s about time I whip out the blender.

Thanks so much for linking up lovely! Shared on my facebook page cause you’re a superstar. I’m shocked I’m awake right now since I was up at the crack of dawn this morning to fly back to Toronto. I.need.sleep. zzzzzzz.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thanks lady! I’m just glad I was able to join in on the fun this time…unlike Valentine’s Day…whomp whomp! :(

  13. Oh? Tofu in a smoothie?? How did I NEVER think of that?? You little irish genius, you!!
I had a salad on the weekend. Haha :-) Not very creative, but it is definitely time I get my greens in after one week of celebrations. Yes, one week. I feel like I’m double my age!
Would you mind coming over and mix up a Vegan Sweet Pea Smoothie for me?? Including that pretty mint leave!! Happy St. Paddy’s gorgeous lady!

  14. Your food pictures are always so gorgeous.

  15. Ok peas in a smoothie? There’s something I never would have thought of, but I totally believe you that it works. I find that as long as you add banana, you can stick almost anything in a smoothie. ALMOST. 😉

Omg I legitimately don’t know if I ate anything green this weekend… wait there was sage in the butternut squash gnocchi I ordered on Saturday night!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Butternut squash gnocchi?! 😯 Omg, that sounds like heaven! And YES! Finally someone who understands my crazy smoothie ways! Lol

  16. Jessica says:

Yum! This looks delicious, I’ve never thought to put peas and mint together in a smoothie. Do you ever add supplements? I started adding spirulina to my smoothies after reading this article on the different things you can add to green drinks.

  17. I want this for #strangebutgood! I love the tofu + pea idea. Add a shot of Irish whiskey and it would be perfect. 😉

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh I’m totally linking this up on Friday! And you know, I was thinking a little Bailey’s wouldn’t hurt! 😉

  18. What a great idea to put peas in a smoothie! I’ve mixed them with avocados for guacamole but never a smoothie! Yum!

  19. 1– I want to get green curry with you! 2– YUM! 3–I FREAKING MISS YOU!

  20. Peas in a smoothie? Why not???? :) Happy St. Pea-trick’s Day one day late Heather!!!

  21. OMG this smoothie is so cute and green! I never thought about putting peas in a smoothie before. Awesome idea!

  22. I’m happy to know that peas can make for a great smoothie ingredient! I was actually THIS close to trying that out the other day when I accidentally grabbed a bag of frozen peas from the freezer (thinking it was spinach). Now I’ll have to try it (for real!).

  23. Peas, mint and tofu all in the same drink. I’m skeptical, but I’m also a bit of a wimp when it comes to strange but goods.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day. I ate loads of asparagus this weekend and I started my day with a green smoothie yesterday. Green from spinach though. I also think a green beer might have been involved and by think I mean definitely.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Nice! I’ve never actually had a green beer before…but I’m thinking they should get on the green WINE thing…then I’d be signing up! 😉

    Um….. HUH!?

What the heck does this taste like? I like all the ingredients but can’t for the life of me figure out what it would taste like blended together.

    Mad woman! LOL

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! It’s really just sweet tasting…the peas are barely detectable, especially with the little extra “pop” of ginger! Come on…you know you want to tryyyyyyyyy it! 😉

  26. Ok, that smoothie looks AMAZING. It may not be St. P’s Day anymore… but that’s not gonna hold me back from trying this deliciousness 😉
