Surprise guests at your next party with crisp garlicky toasts topped with sweet fresh figs, salty prosciutto and melty mozzarella. With the explosion of flavor in these little bites, you’d never guess how easy they come together!
Soon to be known as your favorite non-recipe recipe! 🙂
I’ve debated for over two months whether to share this recipe on the blog or not. It goes against many food blogger standards in the way that a.) there aren’t actually any specific measurements and b.) the only two pictures I have I took with my phone. and c.) fig season is pretty much over. BUT I’ve seriously dreamt about these babies non-stop since I made them back in September and they’re just too good not to share. And we’ll just ignore the fact that I haven’t posted a recipe in almost six months. Ha!

It’s time to show you guys my Halloween costume…especially since it came together fantastically in the last COUPLE OF HOURS before leaving town Friday night! What can I say? I’m the world’s worst procrastinator I work well under pressure! 😉
“They’re magically delicious!” *
*What I may or may not have screamed while running up and down the streets of downtown Nashville throwing handfuls of cereal up in the air! 😉
My friends and I arrived at our hotel in Nashville ready to head to our concert and otherwise take over the town around 8pm that night. The following nine hours were full of singing, dancing, toasting, bathroom selfies, a squirrel, and way too many belly laughs to even try to count.
Basically, the MOST fun I’ve ever had on Halloween!
The concert ended up being great! While I didn’t know all of the words to the songs, The Devil Makes Three had a great way of getting their energy out into the crowd. And it didn’t hurt that the opening act, The Cave Singers, already had me bouncing around. Before I knew it, was square dancing with a farmer and jumping around a penguin!
And Forrest Gump, Sulley the monster, a chicken, a pirate, and a kitty cat! 😉
But those weren’t the only interesting costumes of the night. I was able to snap a few pics of the best ones I spotted…and then stole the rest from my friend’s Facebook page. I love dressing up for Halloween, but I love seeing what others come up with even more…the creativity of some people is just amazing!
Like this crew straight from the set of The Wizard of Oz…though I think someone must’ve slipped something in Dorothy’s preworkout drinks.
These “witnesses” had everybody stopping in their tracks.
At the end of the night, we carried our worn out bodies back to the hotel (partying like a rock star is hard when your almost thirty!) and ended the night right…with copious amounts of pizza and chicken wings delivered right to our door followed by…
I know…I know, I’m a disgrace to my fellow Nashvillians. HOW did I not know these things were freakishly delicious?! Now I have GOT to get my hands on the peanut butter one! 😯
What did you do for Halloween?
What was the most unique/interesting costume you saw?
Hope all you boys and GHOULS have a SPOOKtacular night!
Sorry, I’ve come to the age where I just can’t resist a good dose of corniness. Also? Can I say that I feel like I’m in the scene in Interview with a Vampire where Claudia cuts all her hair off only to turn around and have all of it come right back? Seriously, I feel like the curls are taking OVERRRRRR!
Current Book:
Well, I finished it. As in just moments ago. As in moments before THAT I was hungrily flipping pages. And then I turned another and? There WEREN’T ANY MORE FUCKING PAGES! Don’t you hate that? Ugh, I’m not in the habit of ruining things for people (pet peeve alert) so I won’t give any thing away. But I will say that my first car makes a cameo appearance about a quarter of the way through. Now go read the book…then email me so we can have a Broccoli Book Club meeting! 😉
Current Music:
In addition to this month being dubbed “ConcertMonth“, I’ve had plenty of full albums on repeat. Along with Sir Sly, I’ve been nonstop-listening to Glass Animals, The Black Keys, and Alt-J. Omg, have you guys heard “Every Other Freckle” by Alt-J? It’s like the indie version of Arctic Monkeys’ “I Wanna Be Yours” (which you already know toodles my bits).
Well just in case you haven’t, please take a minute to ignore the fact that this video makes absolutely no sense and let yourself be carried away by the sway of Joe Newman’s unique vocals. FYI, it doesn’t matter I have to Google half his lyrics to figure out what he’s saying. He could sing about chicken feet and I’d still listen! Lol
Current Guilty Pleasure:
Hello, my name is Heather and I am anOreoaddict. I may or may not have had cookies for breakfast a few times this month. I may or may not scour the cookie aisle every time I go grocery shopping looking for more new flavors. I may or may not be rocking back and forth right now in a state of withdrawal. 😉
Current Nail Color:
Please see “Current Outfit” later in this post for a hint.
Current Entertainment:
Call it a guilty pleasure, but sometimes I indulge in my lack of memory and rewatch standup comedy and then laugh so much till it hurts. The latest? My favorite…Jeff Dunham aka Jef-fa-fa Done-HAAAAAAAM….dot COM! 😆
Current Wish/Needs:
I’ve never really ever considered myself a Nike girl, but earlier this month, I was in desperate need of new work shoes (like my pinky toe was on the verge of popping through the side of my last pair) so I went shopping one day.
One hour and 40 try-ons later, I had these. They’re lightweight, comfortable, and basically make me feel like I’m a kangaroo. I want more…in every color imaginable.
Current Food:
Pizza…all day, errrrrrry day!
Pumpkin…in and ON everything…like for serious!
And BACONNNNNNN!
Insert crazy, one-eyed, tongue sticking out emoji here. I have a prideful announcement to make: After a sudden arrival of some weird repulsion to the sight of raw bacon frying in a skillet, I am bacon BACK in business!
Current Drink:
You guys! I have been a friggin’ CAMEL lately! I usually go through phases with water -where I totally love it and it’s all I drink or where I don’t want to have anything to do with it and it’s downright torture to get one bottle a day down – but for the last month I’ve been AVERAGING 3 liters a day!
Current Triumphs:
I could keep things superficial and say easing my way back into the kitchen, but it goes a bit deeper than that. I’m not just busting out of a food rut. I’ve honestly been feeling things shift and have been pretty damn positive lately in terms of my relationship with food. As in sometimes it seems quite ridiculous to classify it as a “relationship” at all. Also, my body has gone through a LOT of changes as I’ve battled some food demons over the last year but well…I’ll take curves over craziness to help illustrate my feminine side any day.
So to that, I raise my can of diet Dr. Pepper Cherry because there’s no guilt here and…well, fuck, this shit tastes GOOD!
Current Bane of Existence:
I will not say my garage door. I will not say my garage door. I will NOT say my garage door. Because in a perfect world, or at least one where I wasn’t a lazy, irresponsible, forgetful bum, I would have already had a repairman come out and fix the damn thing after SIX MONTHS. Umm, Oops?
Current Blogger Crush:
I have failed you once again. *sigh* But hey, now that I finally have my new work schedule in place, maybe I’ll find a way to get a little balance back. Or at least respond to the comments on the last week of my posts. Sorry about that.
Current Indulgence:
Sunrise, anyone? 😀
Current Blessing:
To love and to be loved. We really should all remember to take a minute out of each day to truly appreciate the people in our lives who make us the best versions of ourselves…who make us laugh until we snort…who fill us down to our cores with a warmth that no Hallmark card could ever touch.
Current Outfit:
So you guys know how I’ve been searching for a Halloween costume? Well, I’m not really one settle for just anything…I like to let my free spirit take the will…oh alright, I’m actually just horrible at making decisions, BUT how about I got an email last Saturday from Open Sky and one of the first things I see is THIS shirt? Next thing I know I’m driving all over town tracking down the perfect lepruchaun accessories…getting new ideas all along the way!
Now if I could just learn how to spell leh-PREW-con! 😉
Current Excitement:
Tonight, I’ll be strutting my Irish stuff down to Nashville to check out a band with a couple of friends. I don’t think I’d pick out The Devil Makes Three on my own, but I wasn’t quite sure about Shakey Graves before I heard him play live so I’m keeping an open mind. Besides, it’s Nashville on Halloween night…I’m sure I’ll be able to keep myself entertained!
