Grilled & Marvelous

Hello there, my lovely readers!

How was your weekend? Or better yet, how was your WEEK?

Was it MARVELOUS?!

MIMM

I skipped out on ya yesterday, didn’t I? Well, there’s a very good explanation for that…

It’s called…my sanity!

Yep, I don’t have much left these days so in order to keep hold of what I DO have and not go completely bonkers, sometimes I just have to step away…do a bit of unplugging, relaxing, and maybe a bit of grilling to go along with it!

GrillingBut I’ll get back to THAT in just a minute!

First, a look back at the week that GRILLED ME before I got the chance to reverse the tables… πŸ˜‰

Week-In-Review-Button-Final

That’s right! Today I’m linking up with the Diva and my favorite OCD List-Maker for…
A MARVELOUS WEEK IN REVIEW!

Monday

Weeds

I finally tackled the jungle that had become my yard over the last few months. One hour and FIVE MILLION rocks to the legs later, my grass collection of weeds was down to a manageable/safe-from-city-mandated-hate-mail level!

Tuesday

IMG_4093

Had an appointment at 3:30 with my ortho to follow-up on my knee.

Arrived at the office at 3:20.

Walked back to the exam room at 4:10.

Doc walked in at 4:14.

I walked out of the office at 4:19?!?!? WTF?!

Luckily, things got better once I got home and checked the mail…

Mail Goodies

Some surprise goodies from my girl Melissa! Homemade Peanut Butter Blondies (omg, I die!), and two freshly made nut butters, oh and some highly coveted but not yet tried COOKIE DOUGH Pop Tarts!!

I also got a visit from the Flatout Fairy…more on that on Thursday!

Wednesday

I’ll be honest, this is where the week started getting rough pretty rough. Like I mentioned last week, my back was killing me, my knee was giving me trouble, and I hadn’t eaten anything in days that hadn’t made me feel like I was going to be sick. SO besides the benedryl that whisked me off to comaland dreamland that night, the only thing that really stood out that day were these finds on Instagram…

Instagram

Hey, sometimes it’s the little things, right?

Thursday

Yolkporn

Thankfully, after a good NINE SOLID HOURS of sleep, I woke up Thursday morning with a bit of an appetite!

Spaghetti squash + cheddar cheese + mixed berry jam = YUM

YUM + yolkporn = OMGEFFINHEAVEN!

I finished up the day with my first SWEATY gym session in what seems like forever and then a little SWEET bedtime snack a few hours later…

Sweat & Ice Cream

Two lactaids and a side of strawberry ice cream topped with the LAST of my PB Popps…orcrumblies, if you will…I may have shed a tear or two

Friday

Before leaving to get a GLORIOUS one hour deep tissue massage (which is probably the ONLY reason I’m walking today), I whipped up a quick classic #strangebutgood combo for breakfast!

BBQ PB&J Yolkporn

Spaghetti squash + peanut flour + BBQ seasoning + FROG jam + yolkporn

This combo will NEVER get old!

And now of course, we have finally made it to…

Saturday

After a LONG day of shopping with the man-friend looking for the perfect heels to wear with my dress for Blend this weekend…

IMG_4161

Brown Chicken…Brown Cow!
Say it fast, then it’ll make sense! πŸ˜‰

We decided the weather was perfect for chicken and shrimp and veggies…OH MY!!

GrillingI got my drank on while manning* the grill which of course included a couple of taste tests to check for poison!

*Not to be confused with actually prepping and igniting said grill…because I still have a certain couple of fears that involve the fondness I have for my eyebrows. πŸ˜‰

But as marvelous as those bobs de deliciousness were, they didn’t hold a candle to the MOST marvelous part of the weekend…

IMG_4162

Seeing the look on my mom’s face when my sister and I surprised her at work for Mother’s Day!

And of course, we came bearing gifts! πŸ˜€

Mother's Day

Spa gift certificate and an orchid to match!Β

And for the record, we went halvsies so there was no competing this year! πŸ˜‰

What was the most MARVELOUS thing from your week?

How did you spend Mother’s Day?

  1. I looove the new shoes, Heather- gorgeous pair! And I’m totally with you about unplugging…I always feel so much more refreshed mentally after even a day of staying off my laptop! Despite my great plans to do so this weekend, work called- darn! Something marvelous from my weekend? Indulging in a massage yesterday and staying in my PJs till 4 pm- gross? yes….relaxing? Yes m’am!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Gross?! Whatever! Sounds absolutely MARVELOUS!! And yes, unplugging is SO good for the soul! I think I may try to do it one day a week from now on!

I am so glad that gosh awful week is over for you, and now you can move on to a happier (@ least I hope so) week that will leave with you an appetite, joy, and laughter! I would be surprised if it didn’t with all those Flatout goodies that the lovely Flatout Fairy sent you… which by the way, is NO FAIR! Oh and by the way, those heels are hot! How sweet you got to surprise your mom! Happy belated mother’s day to her!!

    Happy monday love! <3

  4. Wow cookie dough pop tarts sound crazy good!

My mum, sister and I did an 8km charity walk on Mother’s day to raise money for breast cancer research. Mum loved it and we went for lunch after πŸ™‚

  5. Aw that sounds like a pretty good week overall! I’m sorry you weren’t feeling well there in the middle! But it sounds like a great ending πŸ™‚ Your mama is a lucky lady!

  6. Woah – Pop Tarts makes a cookie dough flavor!?! That just made my morning.
I’m glad your week was so marvelous! πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

YES!!! I haven’t tried them yet, but I’m super stoked! They also have some other flavors I’ve been eyeing…cinnamon roll, red velvet cupcake, s’mores?!?! Omg, why do they have to be so loaded full of crap?! I swear, I wish I could smuggle all these new flavors back to the past when I was a kid and had a raging metabolism! Lol

  7. Fran@BCDC says:

I’ve still never tried spaghetti squash, but that looks SO delicious, Heather! I really need to start cooking eggs and putting them over random things…no I mean that in a Good way! It always looks so delicious!! So nice you and your sis surprised your Mom. Great photo. Have a great week!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Well, it looks delicious because it IS delicious!! So start throwing them on things already…edible things that is! πŸ˜‰

Hope you’re having a great week, Fran!

  8. Looks like a great week! We all need some unplugging now and then, so don’t feel bad for taking the personal time you need! Also, I love yolkporn!!

  9. Heels?!?! I think that’s what you wanted me to flip over, right??? (PS I’m pretty damn sure I tried those on too!) Hot stuff!!! Girl!!!!
PS, have him grill me something. Please. It looks amazing.
I’m ready for my massage tonight.

  10. I’m glad your week started getting better after Wednesday – it’s amazing how a good sleep can really change things around!

And that was so sweet of you guys to surprise your mom – I bet she loved it! For mother’s day I cooked crab legs for mom with my dad and sister and then we all watched Silver Linings Playbook together.

  11. Lucie says:

I am sorry to hear you had a rough week, but HEY, today starts a new one and I am sure it will be marvelous for you!! How can it not be to someone with such a beautiful smile (and as beautiful HEELS??)
Your Mom is such a lucky woman to be surprised by the two of you, how sweet!!
And I am so jealous on your Spaghetti Squash obsession, we just have NONE here, let’s hope for a better squash season this fall!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww, thank you so much Lucie!! You always know how to make me smile!! And so far…this week has been ONE HUNDRED PERCENT better!! πŸ˜€

      Love you!! xoxox

  12. Good for you taking a little break! I hot my limit last week. Though I did start to worry when I noticed you hadn’t posted in Instagram in a whole. Lol!

    Almost BLEND time!!!!

  13. Brown chicken Brown cow. Classic. Totally fell for it. Except that I just said it fast in my mind because my dad is right next to me and he just… wouldn’t understand. haha.

Love the shoes! I’m kind of gaga over nude pumps. They just make everything look so classy. I bet they’ll look great with your outfit for BLEND πŸ™‚

  14. I think one of the things I can’t wait to do when I am home just for a week is grill. I miss having a grill. Vegetables just taste better grilled, especially mushrooms. Doctors offices make me furious. No matter what a long wait making what could be a 5 minutes appointment a good two hours. No exaggeration there.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, YES!! I had forgotten just how good grilled mushrooms were until last weekend! Makes me super excited for summer…I want to grill EVERYTHING!! Hahaha!

  15. Hold up- cookie dough pop tarts?? Say whhaaaat? And omg I want that homemade cashew butter. Mmmmm.

  16. Wowie!! Those are quite the heels!! I think I’d break my neck if I tried walking around in those. But they are awesome! So cute that you surprised your Mom on Mother’s Day. I was lucky to have my Mom over for dinner–it had been way too long since we got together. Have a great Monday!!

  17. Love the shoes! I have some that look exactly like that and wear them a lot! Well, not really a lot since I don’t get dressed up all that often but when I do, they are my go to shoe since they match so many outfits πŸ™‚
Ummm seriously your grill layout looks amazing! We haven’t done kabobs in a while but I put them on our meal plan this week and I’m definitely looking forward to them!

  18. Awww! So sweet of you go go in and surprise your mom at work. Those orchids are absolutely beautiful <3 I spent Mother's Day having a girl's day out with my mom. Shopping, coffee dates, dinner, and movies were involved. It's kind of scary how much hanging with my mom feels like hanging with a good friend the older I get. Or maybe that's a good thing…

Hope this week goes better for ya, love! I had kind of a rough patch last week as well, with plenty of sleep and stomach problems to deal with, so maybe it was something in the air. Yes. Let's go with that πŸ˜‰ Happy Monday!

  19. Emily says:

    Cookie Dough Pop-Tarts?! I DIE.
I’m sure your mom loved having you surprise her at work. Little things like that always make mom’s smile. (:

Here’s to hoping this week is better for you!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Oh my gosh, she was so excited! The look on her face was priceless! And THEN she told us that she’d never gotten a massage before…to that my sister and I totally high-fived! Daughters of the year dontcha know! πŸ˜‰

  20. Omg it annoys me soo much every time I go to the doctor and the visit only takes a few minutes but the doctor is LATE and I end up having to pay hundreds of dollars. Like umm… what the hell did I just pay for? that’s some expensive minute-charges, smh.

I hope you feel better love! <3 Sending some good vibes your way!
I am totally jealous of that toasted coconut cashew butter, holy moly does that sound amazing or what?! And the Flatout package – I love! Jealous! Looking forward to seeing all of what you got πŸ™‚

  21. SO much awesome yolk porn!! I have some major jealousy over here! πŸ˜‰

  22. I must try those pop tarts!! I bought a box before, but the boy ate them before I got to try any. And I adore the shoes!

  23. Aw nice surprise! Sounds like a great Mother’s Day. And yes, you gotta love doctors with that amazing 5 minutes of attention they’ll give you!

  24. Love those shoes!!! I’m glad you took a little time. I know I’ve really been needing it too! I saw Iron Man with the boys and that was a really fun trip for the four of us. We’re pretty close though, so I really feel like everyday is Mother’s Day. I hope you have a great week and I get to see you in 4 days!!! So excited to see you face to face!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

“We’re pretty close though, so I really feel like everyday is Mother’s Day.” <-AWWWWWW!!! I hope that if I should ever have children one day that I can say the same thing! Of course, there's no wonder your boys love you so much...you're flippin' awesome! And I'm SO excited to get to "steal" you away this weekend!! *happy dance* πŸ˜€

  25. I’m glad to hear your week ended significantly better than it started. Those shoes are hot! I adore a good pump. πŸ˜‰
Your kebobs are looking pretty amazing too, not to exclude all that fantastic yolk porn. It’s porntastic, and I’m thrilled you took the weekend off to recharge your batteries. I’ve got five more days until my vacation, and I am seriously counting. Although god only knows if I’ll be able to pull myself away from IG. I think I’m addicted. Hello my name is Meghan, and I have a problem.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Hahaha! WELCOME to my world!! I swear it’s the only social media that I almost feel lost without! Lol Yay for vacay!!

  26. Robyn :) says:

Glad your week turned around for you!!

The most marvelous things that happened for me was buying some new clothes. For Mother’s Day I went to church then spent the rest of the day cooking for the week, doing laundry and hanging out with my husband and kitty.

  27. I am still thinking about that haul of yummy food! πŸ™‚ PopTarts – have not had since a kid!!!

We all need breaks & life can get too much & then there is social media! πŸ™‚

    Love the mom’s day pic!

  28. I’m so glad you are feeling better!

I love all of your spaghetti squash concoctions. I’m definitely trying it with a fried egg on top!

The most marvelous thing that happened for me was having a fabulous Mother’s Day weekend that started off with pedicures and shopping with my mom on Friday and Saturday, and ended with gourmet doughnuts, gelato, a bike ride and bison burgers with my husband and son on Sunday!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Thank you so much, Melissa! And oh WOW!! Sounds like you were totally pampered this weekend! That’s awesome, girlie! Mmmm, doughnuts!!!

  29. Lizzie says:

I hate it when the doctor runs in late and hardly gives you any time. Would you believe that some offices even threaten to charge YOU extra if you’re late!

It looks like you had a lot of other good things during the week. I love the surprise you and your sister gave your mom.

  30. LOVE those shoes! I’ve been wanting a pair of nude heels but haven’t found any yet that I’m willing to buy (mostly because I’m cheap and the cheap ones I’ve found I don’t like or aren’t comfortable) – HA! I think I figured out what I’m wearing for the cocktail party…it was not an easy task and may have left me feeling a little bad about myself but once I found the outfit, I felt good! πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! What did you do, hold an old lady at gunpoint?! πŸ˜‰ Can’t wait to see you!

And in my opinion (and trust me, I have plenty of experience), you NEVER wanna go cheap with heels…they will ALWAYS let you down! But seriously, don’t go broke on ’em! I usually plan on paying around $50 for a good pair…but I scored and got these for $40! πŸ˜€

  31. Kat says:

What a beautiful Mother’s Day treat!
And seriously that spaghetti squash and egg combo sounds so incredibly good I kinda don’t know what to do with my life right now. I need to try it!
I totally took a mini break from social media this weekend as well and it was really nice. I try to do it EVERY weekend, but when my hubs works its easier to give in and hop on the computer lol

  32. I didn’t even know they MADE cookie dough poptarts. Um, yum!
I still have problems igniting a grill too, even though I was taught a long time ago! So I totally know what you mean about “manning” the grill. πŸ™‚

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Omg, there’s hardly any flavors they HAVEN’T made yet! I was just looking at the store yesterday and they have a cinnamon roll and a red velvet cupcake! Lol One of these days, I’ll get around to making my own!

  33. Hi Heather, I’m so glad the crap week is behind you. I’m sad you took the little break for sanity, ’cause your insanity is what I love about you!! πŸ™‚ And I don’t want to be insane alone! HA. You KNOW I’m kidding!! πŸ™‚ (and apparently “over smiley facing” today too! :)) Love the mother’s day pic, love the shoes, and love my new favorite word “yolkporn”. You are so hilarious!!! Hugs from me to you!!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Don’t worry, m’dear…I was able to keep a good amount of crazy built up in my stores…just had to get it down to a more manageable level! πŸ˜‰ Of course, every time I see the word “yolkporn” a little more comes out! Hahaha!

  34. That package was so sweet! I need homemade nut butters in amazing flavors to show up at my door haha πŸ˜‰ And those shoes are gorgeous. Love the classy color!

  35. Jess says:

What a great surprise for your mom πŸ™‚ …I know exactly what it feels like to have a Doctor seem too busy to really understand what is going on….they are of course very busy, unlike us (sarcasm)

  36. Brown Chicken…Brown Cow…I die.

Um, I just realized I’m not sure I’ve ever actually tried the BBQ + PB combo even though that is what attracted me to you in the very first place (many many moons ago). WTF? This must be remedied.

And crumblies are a bittersweet joy. You are happy that it happened, but sad that it is over…like a really great weekend.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

What? WHAAAAAAAAAAT?!? Omg, how are we still friends? Hand over that oatcake recipe and I’ll SOMEHOW find it in my heart to forgive you! πŸ˜‰

  37. Mom says:

I AM a very lucky mom to have two such beautiful and caring daughters. We three have been through a lot together and they are the only things that keeps me going sometimes. I feel so blessed that they actually LIKE spending time with their old mom. I lovvvvvvvved the surprise visit and my gifts….and I love you Heather and Tori!!! Can’t wait to do the Spa day together!!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww, mama!! I almost missed this comment!! Love you SO much! And I’m calling you first thing in the morning! xoxo
