WIAW: Twenty-FRUIT Hours

Hello, dolls!

I’m so glad you guys got a kick out of yesterday’s post! Believe it or not, I sat down and typed the whole thing up in about an hour…which is unheard of for me! I love making you guys laugh, but I’ll admit that sometimes it takes a LOT of editing. You don’t even want to know how long it took me to type up this post! ;)

But all writing handicaps aside, today is Wednesday and we ALL know what Wednesdays are for, let’s hop to it with our weekly celebration of all things food…

Or in the case of this past Sunday, all things FRUIT!

Oats with Persimmon Goo

BREAKFAST – 7:30am

After waking up in the early morning hours of the man-friend’s quaint but incredibly drafty 5o’s-style home, I knew I needed some warmth! While I sipped on not one, but TWO mugs of this tea (gifted to me by the tea queen herself and seriously tastes like a mug of maple syrup…in a good way!), I was inspired to mix up a new bowl of oats! I topped them with PERSIMMON goo and a sprinkle of chia! And ok, maybe I took this picture yesterday when I made it again…I’m still working on the right ratios, but I hope to have a recipe coming your way soon!

Two words: FRENCH Toast! :D

Mandarin Oranges

SNACK - 10:30am

While admiring my hunk getting all manly on some renovations at his house, I snacked on some super sweet non-aerodynamic MANDARINS. And then I gave him a screw…hey, get yo minds out of the gutter…ren-o-vations, remember!? ;)

Chimes Ginger Chew

SNACK? – 1:oopm

A few hours later, I was on the road back to Clarksville. I made a quick stop by GNC to pick up some of my beloved Quest bars and then ran into a bit of traffic A NEVER-ENDING ROAD OF FRUSTRATION! I popped a MANGO ginger chew and hoped that the detour I chose to take would have me home in about 30 minutes.

Peanut Butter Quest Bar

LUNCH PART A – 2:00PM

STILL on the road an hour later, I was about to start gnawing on my friggin’ steering wheel! Yet again, saved by the Quest bar! And after a quick run into the grocery store just before getting home…

Banana

LUNCH PART B – 3:00pm

Never has a BANANA tasted so good! Let this post serve as my reminder to get to work on that underground tunnel between our houses…seriously, TWO HOURS to get home?!?! Yah!

Gummy Vitamins

DESSERT – 3:00pm

Just before crashing into bed for my little pre-night shift (I just typed shit! Lol) nap, I popped a few nuggets of chewy vitamin-y sweetness…oh yes, the gummy vitamins are BACK! Why oh why did I ever stop buying these?

Chocolate-Glazed Kabocha Donut

SNACK – 7:30pm

After a marvelous slightly drug-induced slumber (more on that later), I woke up, got ready for work and fixed a little sumthin-sumthin to have with my mug of (unpictured) half-caff coffee for the road…mmmm! And let me just say that kabocha squash should TOTALLY be considered a fruit!

Oh Chocolate-Glazed KABOCHA Donut, you complete me!

Pomegranate Goat Cheese Salad

DINNER – 11:00pm

With a little inspiration from Jenn and the Christmas-colored salad I enjoyed last week, I mixed up a winner winner chicken [salad] dinner! Mixed greens topped with half a steamed chicken breast, zucchini, cucumber, goat cheese, walnuts, and POMEGRANATE arils…seeds?…bubbles of juicy deliciousness? ;)

Peanut Butter Mug Cake

SNACK – 3:30am

And inspired by Amanda, I whipped up a little mug cake of my own that night! Served à la mode with a scoop of BLUEBERRY Protein Ice Cream, a few coconut chips, and a mug of (again unpictured) half-caff coffee, it was sweet perfection that kept me satisfied for the rest of my shift!

Recipe coming SOON!

Sauteed Veggies Cheese & YolkpornBREAKFAST – 7:30am

After a rather SWEET day of eats, I was craving nothing but savory by the time I got home but I was soooooooooo sleepy! Luckily it only took about 5 minutes to saute up a pan of mushrooms, onions, spinach, and TOMATOES, top it with cheese, and an almost over-cooked egg…I still managed to squeak out a little yolkporn for ya though! ;)

And then, twenty-four FRUIT hours after my morning bowl of oats,
it was off to bed!

wiaw serve up an extra cup of fruitAnd now that you’ve seen my day of eats that just happens to showcase every color of the rainbow (I’m more than slightly amused by this), you should head on over to Peas & Crayons and check out all the other What I Ate Wednesday link ups!

How many servings of fruit did you eat yesterday?

What’s your FAVORITE fruit?

  1. I would have to say Mango is by far my favourite fruit. But cherries are right up there with them too. Banana is like a dependable friend too always around ;)

Drooling at all of your eats as per usual.

It always makes me smile gummy vitamins, I think they only just brought them out here but it almost seems counterintuitive, eat lollies to get your vitamins…umm say what?

  2. hahahaha night shit. I love that I get caught up on that…what does that say about me? Clementine season has begun! You knew what that means, clementine fingers for the next 3 months!

  3. Fruit is something that I NEVER skimp on…. my favorite foods! Believe it or not, I’ve never tried a permission, though. I’ve been meaning to pick one up. Are they sweet or more tart? Love pom seeds and I’ve been topping my pumpkin oats with them…. so good!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

They are definitely sweet! Just be sure if you pick one up and plan to eat it right away, that you get a Fuyu (short and squatty looking). The Hichayas (which are shaped more like a roma tomato) are really astringent until they get to a point of ripeness where you could almost put your finger through them. If you try to eat them BEFORE they’re all mushy, then it will feel like you just stuffed a handful of cottonballs in your mouth…believe me, I speak from experience! :P

  4. I just bought some gummy vitamins too! It had been too long and I wanted a treat! ;)

  5. I can’t even tell you how many r-rated spelling mistakes I’ve made throughout my blog writing career — Freud would have a field day with me. And ohhhh all the fruit in this post makes my heart very happy. I love the stuff and probably eat 5-6 servings a day. Actually, I just recently found out that a banana is considered TWO servings of fruit, so with that little bit of info, my count probably goes up to 7 or 8. And if I HAD to choose a favourite, I’d go with bananas. No apples. No wait… bananas. But please don’t make me choose…

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Just for you m’dear, I’ll make an exception! ;) Hmm, I never new that about bananas…though with the size of some of them, I wouldn’t be surprised if they counted as FOUR servings! 8O

  6. I just sat back and thought about it, and I realized that I’m pretty sure that the only fruit I had yesterday was a tablespoon or two of raspberry jam. Umm, oops? Must get back on the fruity bandwagon.
Favourite fruit? Bananas or blueberries. Preferably consumed together ;-)

  7. I am fruit crazy too at the moment. Though it’s winter there are so many delicious tropical fruits coming our way and I feel like I could use the extra vitamins with cold season starting. And common how awesome does Persimmon goo look on oatmeal – great idea!

  8. I want to face plant into your food. I will be right over :)

  9. Courtney says:

Favourite fruit? Impossible question. Although sometimes I think I OD on fruit and then crave veggies for a few days. Right now I am on a pear kick, but apples will always have a special place in my heart. Both (especially the latter) MUST be kept in the fridge. Hard and juicy for the win.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Umm, that’s what she said? Sorry…you totally set that one up for me! ;) But I agree, I hate my apples and pears at room temperature…so much sweeter when they’re cold!

  10. Ohhh mango ginger chews?! I’ve never seen those!

  11. Lucie says:

Omg the typos. I can’t count how many times I wrote ‘good lick’ instead of ‘good luck’. You’re welcome :-)
That mugcake – I want it for dinner tonight! It looks so good and I picture myself with a warm blanket on the couch watching trash tv and mumbling that mug cake. Hmmmm.
Today I had 2 kiwis and grapes! I love berries, but I think I finally have to say goodby to them til next year :-(

  12. Typos will be the death of me! I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one :) All of your WIAW eats and treats look deeeeelish. Happy Thanksgiving to you, your family, and your man-friend, Heather!

  13. what a beautiful post :) i have to say your WIAW’s are definitely my favourite out of anyone else’s :) heck, all of your posts are my favourite :) you make me smile heather :) i love you so much and i am so happy you tried your tea! i was hoping you’d love it :) thanks for saying i am the tea queen hehehehe <3

so, i can't wait for the recipes you have coming at us! and i reeeeally need to make your doughnuts. and that salad with the pom seeds looks to die for. totally my style. yum yum yum!

have a great day my love :)

oh and i also ate a pb quest bar yesterday :) it's funny that i used to hate pb and now i think that would have to be my fav quest bar :)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

You’re welcome, m’lady! *curtsy* ;) And thank YOU for all the sweet comments! Love you so much! And I hope you had a wonderful weekend with Mr. Cullen! ;)

  14. Yay for dippy eggs! Yolk porn is the best :). Also, I just have to let you know that I seriously smile every single time I see a picture of those donuts. You outdid yourself with those. You should seriously be selling those in a bakery. They are GORGEOUS!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Awww! Thank you SO much Hannah!! You seriously just made my day! I was so happy with how they came out…especially since I know absolutely NOTHING when it comes to baking! I definitely got lucky this time around! :)

  15. Kadee-Cat says:

Drooling over that egg! Strawberries are my favorite fruit for-eva :)

  16. I LOVE fruit. Your eats all looked delicious & gorgeous, as always! I’m not so sure about those Mango Ginger Chews though… they were ok, but I am in LOVE with the PB ones. If you haven’t had those yet – find them! So good.
I’ve been obsessed with dried fruit lately… can’t get enough, it’s like crack! haha
    Happy Thanksgiving girl!!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Aww, thanks lady! The PB chews ARE the best, but the mango is my second favorite…definitely a stronger taste than all the others though! And I’ve been on a bit of a kick with dried fruit too…cranberries and blueberries have been my thing lately! So good mixed with some white chocolate chips! :D

  17. Emily says:

It’s almost ridiculous how much fruit I eat. Seriously. But I love it and I have absolutely no shame! (Well, except when I shell out $5 a carton for strawberries because I’m craving them during the off-season…le sigh)

Can’t wait for that mugcake recipe!

  18. I’ve been wanting that tea SO badly ever since I saw her write about it!!! PLEASEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Oh don’t you hate the night shits…SHIFTS! I meant shift! ;)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Bahahaha! Omg, I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve typed that…seriously! And every time I type b-r-e-a_____, I automatically type breakfast! Lol

  19. Whew … TWO hours???! Good to know that bar kept you from quest-ioning your sanity ;).
There are some very interesting fruit descriptions in here: Persimmon goo. Non-aerodynamic mandarins. And those bubbles of juicy deliciousness?! Might just get me curious enough to pick up a pomegranate and give it another try because yes, I have yet to like these.
Your wish of kabocha squash being considered a fruit might be granted: Did you know pumpkin in general is botanically considered a berry? Hm .. that being said I’d have an even harder time picking my favourite fruit. Let’s just conclude it’s impossible – and unfair, really. Eat all the fruit!
Also: Thank you SO much for helping me today. And Number 10 = lucky number?!

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Quest-ioning! Haha! LOVE IT!! Omg girl, you are on FIRE with the puns!

Yes, definitely give the poms another try! Just make sure you get one that seems heavy for its size…those are the ones that are the juiciest! :D

Hmmm, kabocha berries? Now that would be something…maybe if they were small they would be so frickin hard to cut open!!!

  20. Kat says:

Holy fruit! And I thought I ate a lot.
Seriously, there were days in the summer where it was all I would eat.
Im going on a little trip tomorrow to my daddys, and Im kind of dreading the drive since its 5 hours long. Im getting up at 3am, but I can guarantee you that Im STILL eating breakfast before I leave the house. Who acres if its only 4am when I eat breakfast. My stomach is growling and apparently doesn’t know the difference! How is it possible to be hungry at 4am? I don’t even knowwwww
Ok, Im not really sure why I just went on that entire mini rant….my bad….
    HAPPY TURKEY DAY!! :):)

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Well, since you’re talking to the queen of zombies, I know EXACTLY what it feels like to be hungry at 4am! Sometimes you just gotta forget the whole structured meal time thing and just go with your gut! :D

Hope you had a wonderful time with your family! I know you were super excited/anxious about seeing them all!

  21. Your salad looks delicious! I bought a pomegranate over the weekend but I still haven’t cracked it open yet out of sheer laziness. :P

I ate 3 servings of fruit yesterday: a banana and berries in breakfast, and an apple for a snack. Bananas are definitely my favourite and I eat them erryday!

  22. That doughnut photo….. WOW – amazing! Seriously. I haven’t had a doughnut in like 12 years. And I am now wanting 10. lol!

  23. I’m a fruit fiend and I usually eat at least four to five serves of fruit a day…. Okay probably more :P

I HAVE to have an apple with my lunch (I’m an apple addict) and then I usually add other fruit as well as my sandwich – especially if there’s watermelon in the house. Heaveeen!

I can’t actually choose a favourite but I love apples, bananas, watermelon and blueberries – and they happen to be the only fruits I can eat too haha

  24. Love this obscurely timed day of eats- dinner at 7.30 am- love it!

That chicken salad combination looks amazing- I’m yet to delve into the fruit and savoury salad combination, but seeing as I love that mix- I’ll be giving it a go!

FINALLY the ‘good’ fruits are becoming reasonably priced here so I expect to down in berries like its going out of style. That, or until I turn into Violet Beauregarde.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Ha! That’s what you get when you lead the life of a zombie! ;)

Oh you’ve GOT to try the sweet and savory salad combo! Especially since you’re in prime berry season right now…strawberries, blue cheese, chicken…just do it! And then report back to me ASAP! Lol

  25. You’re just too clever.

I think it’s only right to tell you that your food looks fake.

As in, whenever I see your meals it reminds me of all of those food commercials and advertisements where the food looks seriously too good to be true. Except in your case the food IS real. Well, at least I certainly hope so ;)

Because that donut? I could totally see it being plastic. I would have killed for a toy kabocha chocolate donut in my play kitchen set growing up! :P

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Oh Madison, you make me smile SO much! When I first read the “food looks fake” thing, I was like, HUH? But now that I’ve read your explanation, I’ve gotta say this is one of the best compliments I’ve ever received! :D Thanks sweetie!

PS, you had a play kitchen?! Ugh, I always dreamed of having one…then my little sister got one when she was like three and I think I played with it more than she did! Haha!

  26. So much fruit. I love it. GAH! When I come there, please tell me you’ll feed me all the fruity deliciousness. I will be in heaven because I’m slightly fruity and I also have a serious addiction. It puts your Quest Bar loving to shame.
Speaking of shame, you should have seen my yolk porn last week. Yeah I didn’t even post it, not anywhere, because it was that bad. I even fried up another egg in an attempt to fix the problem. No dice, I wrecked that yolk too. Maybe it’s a sign I should stick with fruit.

    • kissmybroccoli says:

Haha! Awww, poor poor yolkies! Maybe they sense that you’re trying to hard. Just after you pull them out of your bra, you gotta talk softly to them, caress those little brown, or white, or green bottoms and tell them that no matter what, they are good eggs! …ok, I thought I could keep a straight face with that one, but I totally failed! Bahahaha!

And yes, EAT ALL THE FRUIT!!!
