Winter Realizations

So you know how I said I wasn’t going to fill yesterday’s post with my complaints about the weather? Well, I can’t hold it back any longer. I’ve noticed a few things and while I know I only live in the south and it could be FAR worse…

I’d still like to say, Mother Nature can SUCK IT!

Here in Tennessee, we have some of the coldest and wettest winters…usually sans snow but with a WHOLE lot of black ice, wind, and general grayness. Since I’ve basically lived nowhere else, I’ve come to accept most of this, but still, every year I have a new or REPEAT (not to be confused with Re-Pete) realization…

Winter Selfie

1. I’m wearing so much coconut oil that I’m basically a human slip ‘n slide.

2. And yet I STILL have a patch of dry skin above my upper lip…I can’t decide if it makes me look like a toddler who’s had too much red Koolaid or an evil German dictator.

3. I have ZERO motivation to do anything…and when you DO nothing, you HAVE nothing…to blog about!

4. When I do do something (*snort*), I’m crabby about it…stupid constricting clothes, frickin’ static, idiot waiter sitting us RIGHT by the door…forgive me man-friend for the things I said this weekend out of hanger and hermitness. 😳

5. Or I just do incredibly stupid things with my idle time…like delete HALF the pictures off my computer! Luckily, after three days of scrolling through pics in my trash bin, I think I have them all back…wow, THAT was a fun weekend! #facetopalm

Snow 2014

6. It is incredibly hard, if not IMPOSSIBLE to scrape the ice off the windshield of an SUV…my arms are long, but there not THAT long! And those scrapers with extensions? Bought one last weekend and it does NOT work! 🙁

7. If my nose isn’t running, it’s bleeding…and I’ve only had a nosebleed ONCE in my entire life!

8. All my friends and family (including the man-friend) are sick…pray for me while I back myself into a corner and throw back an entire bottle of vitamin C tablets!

9. I’m pretty sure my water bill is going to be doubled since I continue standing there for ten minutes after I’m finished rinsing myself.

10. The weatherman reported a high of six today but with the wind chill, it feels like NEGATIVE FIFTEEN!

Winter 2014

There are times to be upbeat and positive and there are times to piss and moan collectively! So c’mon, let it out…

What is YOUR biggest gripe this winter?

When I Grow Up…

Happy Sunday peoples!

I hope you are all having a fun and relaxing weekend…and NOT freezing your ba-tooties off! It’s been in the 20s here for the last few days and we have a high of FOUR DEGREES tomorrow! Baaaaa-ut, as much as I’m hating Mother Nature right now, I’ve got something better planned to talk about today!

A couple of weeks ago, I gave a suggestion to Arman of a topic for Spill It Sunday and this week is THE week! Today it’s all about the throwback for a look at childhood dreams…and I think it fits in perfectly given the last He Said She Said topic that he and Davida collaborated on. If you haven’t read that post, I highly recommend it!

And well, we can’t very well have a throwback post without a selfie throwback PICTURE, right?!

Throwback Me Red Dress

FYI, that was my Easter dress…my mother never could get me in pastels! Lol!

1. What did you want to be when you were younger (career wise)?

Oh gah, WHERE should I start?! I went through so many “phases” when I was a kid. And I say it with quotation marks because they were honestly more like fixations…I just KNEW that was what I was going to be one day! Ok, how about I go all Meghan on you and list them in chronological order? 😉

1. Teacher…I think every kid thinks this at least once!
2. Singer…I was in EVERY talent show in grade school always singing hits from Patti Loveless and Reba (my music idols at the time).
3. Artist…because who wouldn’t want to just color all day??
4. Teacher…and then the battle for left-brain theory took over!
5. Judge…better than a lawyer because obviously all they do is sit at a super high desk in a really cool robe and bang a hammer around!
6. Archeologist…I’ll admit, this was right about the time that Jurassic Park came out! 😉
7. Teacher…are we seeing a pattern here? Only this time it didn’t last long as I got a job at a daycare when I was in high school and figured out that I kinda sorta hate kids…no offense to all you parents out there…they’re just not really my thing.
8. Veterinarian…ok, totally set…THIS was it…until I got a chance to job shadow at a clinic in my hometown and nearly passed out during a cat spay! How embarrassing!
9. Life-long student?…because it would be a HELL of a lot easier than choosing a major TWO YEARS after I entered college!

2. What dreams did you have when you were younger?

Throwback Shoney's BearYou mean BESIDES meeting the Shoney’s bear…because obviously I was over that minutes after it happened! 😉

Ever since I came into my teenage years, I’ve been pretty practical. Gone were the dreams of becoming a princess, riding on a brontosaurus, or marrying any of the boys of NSYNC (especially Lance Bass!)…I was all about what was going to make me the best money…for the least amount of effort school.

Scrubs X-Ray School

3. Are you in the same career path as what you wanted?

Honestly, I never in a million years thought I’d be where I am now…as in I didn’t even realize the career existed until I got into college. I mean, according to Grey’s Anatomy and House, the doctors do all the x-rays and CAT scans and stuff, right? Haha!

I’d like to say I had some sort of grand epiphany and just KNEW the direction I would go in, but honestly, I was feeling some major (haha, get it?) pressure from my advisor to make a decision…so I got out the university’s book of degrees and basically flipped through it until I found something “cool”. I knew I liked science…specifically biology…but I knew from my near hit-the-floor episode at the vet clinic that I couldn’t handle blood so it kinda just worked out that a degree in radiologic technology (x-ray) would be right for me. Then came the worst year of my college life: cramming in all the science and math prerequisites in ONE year so I wouldn’t have to wait another year to get into x-ray school!

Now don’t get me wrong, I like what I do. I find the human body fascinating and I love seeing some of the stuff I see and learning new things…but, well, it’s just hard sometimes to work in the medical field…seriously, next time you have a test done/appointment, do me a favor and just say thank you!

4. Have you achieved any of your childhood dreams?

Throwback Birthday Hug

Well, there was that time I became a professional hugger…

5. Will you try to make any of those dreams realities?

I’d like to look into getting back to more right-brain activities. I think I can be a really creative person when I’m in the right environment and mindset. I don’t necessarily want to pursue any as job opportunities at the moment, but I’d like to explore more in the way of hobbies…if just to help myself have a chance to get away from the world every now and then. Ya know what I mean?

What did YOU want to be when you were little?

Are you doing it now?

Ten Things I Love About Spoons

Selfie Spoons 1

1. They make eating soup a HECK of a lot easier…

Oh wait…not THOSE kind of spoons!

Running With SpoonsTHESE kind of Spoons!

You guys may or may not know, but tomorrow, January 4, 2014 is Amanda’s BIRTHDAY! I’m pretty sure she’s turning 18…right? 😉 Anywho, Arman, everyone’s favorite blogging boy had the fantastic idea of doing a little birthday celebration for her so a few of us bloggers are getting together to show some love…of the Spoon variety! 😀

It’s no secret that I’ve had a girl crush on this woman for ohhhh about THREE years now so obviously this post is going to be easy peasy…spoony poony?

Selfie Spoons 2

1. Each and every single one of her posts are entertaining, inspiring, and heart felt. I love the genuineness of her writing and I swear I always feel like I’m sitting across the table from her each and every time I pull up Spoons in my reader.

 2. I’ve always admired Amanda’s attitude on balance. On the food front and in life in general. When it comes to healthy eating, both on the blog and off, she has been a HUGE support to me while I’ve worked to heal my unhealthy relationship with food. And try as I might not to compare myself to others, in the blogging world, it can be tough…but she always seems to know when I need a change in perspective. Simply put: We can’t do it all and she reminds me of that from time to time.

Dry Brush

3. Whether it be fun random facts from her Thinking out Loud posts, or the benefits of dry-brushing, it’s rare that a week goes by without me taking away a nice little nugget of information…and now that I finally found a good one, I’m going to start dry brushing next week! 🙂

4. The reviews on products (food related and otherwise) that she shares are ALWAYS trustworthy. I’ve not once had her lead me astray, which sort of explains my next point…

Makeup

5. She made me a makeup diva opened my eyes to a world of GOOD makeup!! Seriously, I’m a convert and there is no turning back now! Gone are the days of suffering through cheapo drugstore makeup…I am now addicted to Sephora…

Sephora Makeup Samples

Or mayyyyyybe it’s just all the free samples!

♫ I feel pretty, oh so pretty, I feel pretty and witty and gay BROKE! 😆

And it doesn’t stop with the makeup and other products…

Amanda's Pumpkin Bread

6. I am pretty leery about trying new recipes…especially baked goods because well, I’m abnormal. I just don’t have the sweet tooth that so many others have so I never know if I should cut the sugar down or not and I hate the thought of wasting ingredients if it doesn’t turn out…but Amanda’s treats (and this Pumpkin Bread in particular) are always perfect!

7. I can’t get enough of her Link Love posts on Sundays…it seriously baffles me how she has the time to find so many great articles. It’s not uncommon for me to have about ten windows up at once! She helped motivate me to spruce up the blog a few months ago and continues to find little gems that I will forever be grateful for!

Peanut Butter Mug Cake with Greek Yogurt, Pomegranate & Jam www.kissmybroccoliblog.com

8. She is my foodie inspiration! Thanks to her Double Chocolate Mug Cake, I created my own WHOLE EGG cake and yeah, that pretty much sums up what I ate between the months of November and December!

Sweet & Savory Oats9. She’s a secret #strangebutgood lover! 😉 She may not be a crazy as me, but this girl knows her quirky combos…this is a bowl of her Sweet & Savory Oats (topped with hummus and blackberry jam) that I made back in 2011!

10. Amanda could make a stick lying in a dim-lit room look breathtaking. She never fails to inspire me with my own photography. Her pictures are definitely a treat for the eyes…whether it be of food, nature, her gorgeous little face!

So…while I could really go on and on, there you have the TOP TEN reasons I love Spoons…and the girl who slurps from them! Now hop on over there and sing her a little birthday tune! 😀

Do you read Amanda’s blog? What keeps you coming back?

When is YOUR birthday?
