Don’t Toss the Toast!

Hey hey haaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Wow, I seem to be in a really good mood right now…and for good cause!

Yep, today is the first day in over THIRTY SIX HOURS that I haven’t felt like I was going to toss my cookies!

How about we celebrate?

WIAW Teal

You know, because every time a foodie gets her appetite back, an angel gets her wings, the fun and frills of a WIAW -type celebration is definitely justified! 😉

On Saturday afternoon, my stomach started feeling a bit off, but I just chocked it up to eating too much for breakfast…

Red Velvet Protein Pancakes - 7

Because let’s face it, when a plate of Red Velvet Protein Pancakes is sitting in front of you, you can’t NOT finish it! 😉

I met up with the man-friend later that day and we did some shopping at the Opry Mills Mall. While we were there, we started getting hungry so we decided to check out the food court to see what they had to offer. We had plans with some friends later that night for dinner so we were hoping to find something a bit light for lunch.

We ended up trying a place that was new to both of us, called Green Leaf’s. They offer a wide variety of wraps, paninis, and salads or you can even customize your meal by choosing your own meats, veggies, toppings, and dressing.

We ended up sharing a Balsamic Chicken and Roasted Peppers (on the left) and the a Turkey BALT (bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato).

After we finished, we walked around a bit more, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was still not right with my stomach. I didn’t even clean my plate yet I felt like I’d eaten a huge Thanksgiving dinner! We had a couple of hours to kill before we needed to meet up with our friends for dinner at Bonefish Grill so I rested up on the couch until it was time to leave.

Once at the restaurant, I STILL wasn’t feeling right, but being the STUBBORN foodie that I am, there was NO WAY I was passing up the chance to get some Bang Bang Shrimp!

I enjoyed a couple of bites and when it came time to order, I decided to go with the
Baja Fish Tacos (because it was the smallest thing on the menu…and well, you guys know how I can never pass up fish tacos!).

After dinner, that was it…my body was DONE with giving me “little” signs!

I started getting sharp pains in my back and arms, all of a sudden, I had like NO energy, and then the “icing on the cake” if you will, I felt like I was going to toss my cookies tacos at any moment!

After a not-so-good night’s sleep, I woke up feeling absolutely miserable. I spent most of the day on the couch while the man-friend willingly stepped up into the position of nurse, hydrator, and cooker of sick food!

Sick food PERFECTION: Plain whole wheat toast with 1 egg + two egg whites, scrambled.

After taking some anti-nausea medicine, I practically slept ALL day. Somehow, I finally managed to find enough energy to (barely) make it back to my house later that night. Of course, the only reason I did was because I knew I didn’t leave Tiger enough food to make it through another day.

If he only KNEW how much I loved him!

Before I called it a night at 8:30pm, I whipped up a bowl of oat bran and topped it with half a banana and a bit of peanut butter.

I was able to eat half of it.

THIRTEEN hours later, I awoke feeling MUCH better, but still a bit wary of anything too elaborate for breakfast so I stuck to something simple:

Yogurt Mug

See? I even felt good enough to make it look pretty! 😀

Plain Chobani with puffed kamut, half a banana, and persimmon “goo” (just the inside of a SUPER ripe hachiya persimmon).

Even though my “bowl” of yogurt was actually a mug and not a very large portion at all, I felt SO full after breakfast so when it came time for lunch, I scaled back a bit.

Hummus & Veggies

Roasted pine nut hummus, broccoli, carrots, and unsalted tortilla chips.

About two hours later, I had a bit of an aftershock…

IMG_0819

More toast for the tummy.

Luckily, the man-friend had sent me home with the anti-nausea medicine, so I took some and in an hour or so I was feeling better.

Like a STUBBORN idiot, I decided that since I was feeling better, that I was good enough to make it into work that night (especially since I had to call out sick on Sunday). What I DIDN’T figure in was that the anti-nausea meds also make you DROWSY!

I think it’s safe to say that was the LONGEST shift I’ve ever worked!

But at least I didn’t toss my cookies toast! 😉

After my shift, I slept like a ROCK (obviously) and have been feeling better ever since…though I’m still popping candied ginger and sipping on my favorite tea…no way I’m having another aftershock!

What is your go-to food when you’re not feeling well?

Are you a stubborn person?

Mailtime Monday!

Happy Monday peeps!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Remember when I mentioned how I’ve been doing a bit lot of online shopping lately? Well, I figured I’d use today’s post as a way of intervention to show off some of my latest goodies! 😉

Blues Clues

Here’s the mail it never fails,
because I ordered it with super-fast shipping.

it makes me wanna wag my tail,
and jump up and down on the front porch as the UPS man shakes his head.

when it comes I wanna wail MAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL!
Yeah, I have some serious problems.

First up, iHerb:

Mailtime Monday iHerb

What started as an order for coconut butter and more of my beloved hazelnut chai turned into a bit more once I discovered that first time customers get $10 off a $40 purchase! The Christmas tea practically JUMPED into the cart after that realization and well, as for the shiny silver package?

Mail Time Monday - 02

It just sounded TOO COOL to pass up!

But I haven’t tried it yet…I’ll keep you guys posted!

Secondly, Netrition:

Netrition

Replenished my stash of peanut flour, picked up a new flavor of Power Crunch bars (which are amazing and totally rival the chocolate peanut butter), and I also nabbed a new-to-me product, Vega’s SaviSeeds!

From Vega’s Website: Sacha inchi seeds are the richest plant-based source of Omega-3 on the planet! Ounce for ounce, these amazing seeds on their own contain 17 times more Omega-3 than wild sockeye salmon*. Boasting a whopping 6 g of Omega-3 per one ounce of lightly roasted Vega SaviSeed*, nuts pale in comparison to this Omega-rich snack.

They are very unique tasting…a bit earthy, but in a good way. So far, I’ve been pairing them with an apple or some carrots and they’ve made for a perfectly filling snack!

Mail Time Monday - 09

I also picked up some of my new favorite maple syrup and a new jam spread to try. They’re both sweetened with xylitol (which deserves a post all to itself and is coming soon!) and the ingredient list is pretty legit.

Mail Time Monday - 11

Then, I got sucked into the bar section!

So far, I’ve tried the brownie (it was just ok), the blondie (holy cow amazing…just like the texture of an Otis Spunkmeyer muffin…I kid you NOT!), and the coffee-flavored Simply Bar (not bad, but I think I’ll like the raspberry one more).

The “wheyfer” bar was a freebie…haven’t tried it just yet, but if it’s ANYTHING like the Power Crunch bars, I know I’m in for a treat!

Mail Time Monday - 13

Of course, most of those bars were thrown in JUST so I could qualify for the free t-shirt deal! 😀

Next up, Amazon:

Mail Time Monday - 17

Processed white chocolate? Pffft! That stuff is for the birds the trash!

Oh yeah, now that I’ve finally got my post-Christmas appetite back, you better believe little bits of this bad boy are going to be popping into some recipes!

FYI, I haven’t forgotten about my mission to turn those apple cinnamon cookies into pancakes! 😉

And Lastly, A Birthday Surprise!

Mail Time Monday - 03

Last month, I got the BEST package EVER…a birthday surprise from
Tess over at Cross Country Cajun filled with all sorts of amazing goodies! I swear, each and every item I pulled out of the box got it’s own little happy dance!

Mail Time Monday - 04

Yeah, I think it’s safe to say this girl GETS me! 😉

What’s the last thing you received in the mail?

Did you ever watch Blue’s Clues as a kid?

And the BEET Goes On…

Oh yeah, I’m STILL singing!

Though I think Sonny & Cher had it all wrong…

Beets

Because it’s really ALL about the beets!

Beets with Shreds

They just can’t be BEAT! 😉

Beets & Cocoa

ESPECIALLY when paired with chocolate!

Remember that time where I started throwing beets into all of my breakfasts?
Well, I may gave you guys tips on how to turn my Blueberry Beet Pancakes into little red velvet ones, but since I was so enamored with parfaits and smoothies that week, I never actually got around to making them for myself…

Red Velvet Protein Pancakes - 5

Until now!

But I’ll tell you, I learned quite a few things during this day-o-pancake-flippin’…

Beet Shreds & Greens

Beets are really pretty.

Beet Hand

But they’re kinda messy.

Beet Shreds

And they bring back haunting memories of a certain ghoulish invasion. 😉

Cacao Nibs

Cacao nibs are delicious and make for great snacking while taking 935,213 pictures of beets, chocolate, and pancakes.

Cacao Nibs Handful

Until one catches you in the roof of the mouth…then the munchin’ and crunchin’ comes to a screeching halt while you curse the heavens continue with your never-ending photo session.

Chocolate Cup

My tiny measuring is perfect for drizzling chocolate sauce…AND it’s super cute!

Chocolate Fingers

But shouldn’t be confused with the bowl of cacao nibs.

Because even after you wipe your hands off on your yoga pants a towel, there will still be evidence of your momentary lapse of attention…

Chocolate Door Knob

Oops?

Red Velvet Protein Pancakes - 4

But in the end, it’s totally worth the flashbacks, nib laceration, and chocolate finger painting…

Red Velvet Protein Pancakes - 2

Because these babies are flippin’ AWESOME!
